After create a new topic, the topic page can not be displayed.

This is somewhat embarrassing, isn’t it?

It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching, or one of the links below, can help.

The only possible solution (when I test) is to ask admin to post it, I tried to change the user role
as admin, and bbpress role as keymaster, still did not work, any advice, thanks.

Funny, I could have sworn reply notifications worked when we were first testing and trying to find a forum platform that met our needs. Must have hallucinated that!

Email notifications are fine for some things, but on a very active discussion board they would be overwhelming.

I’ve been trying to hack the code in the includes/extend/buddypress/notifications.php file. But I’m pretty green with both php and wordpress/bbpress development. It does look like all the parts are there to extend it. But I’m a bit perplexed about some things in the code.

I’ve encountered the same issue. I’ve been beating my head against this thinking it was an issue in the theme I’m developing. Finally stripped everything down to just the bbPress & BuddyPress plugins and used the TwentySixteen theme to test.

If someone replies to a post inside a threaded topic and that post was made by the person who created the original topic, then they will get TWO notifications. One will say it’s from the name of the person who replied (good so far) and the second will say it’s from the name of the person getting the notification (and/or OP author). Also, no notifications are sent if the reply isn’t to the author of the original post/topic.

I’m very happy to see there’s a ticket for this. Any hope that it will get fixed any time soon? Selfish reason for asking – this stands to put a kibosh on my project as the two main requirements for the community forum I’m developing the theme for require threaded replies and notifications.

I have bbPress & BuddyPress installed on my site (the newest versions of both: 2.5.9 & 2.5.2 respectively. On WordPress 4.5.2

Notifications had been working nicely – users where notified when someone replied to either a topic they posted or a reply in a thread. Now only the person who started the topic gets a notification to their topic or their replies in the thread, and with replies they get two notifications – one that says the correct name of who it’s from and another saying it’s from their name.

I disabled all other plugins and turned off my theme and activated the Twentysixteen theme to test.

A separate but related issue – it would be *very* nice if the notification link went to the actual reply instead of the topic at the top of the page. This had seemed kind of promising: https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/new-reply-notification-link-to-the-reply/

HI. I have the following structure:

    – Private Group
    – – Private Forum Category
    – – – Private Forum
    – – – Private Forum
    – – – Private Forum

So, a private group that has a forum. The top level forum is of type category, then the child forums are all private forums.

If a user that is not a member visits the Group or Forum Category they cannot see anything and are shown the option to request membership.

But if they go directly to the child forum they can access it and post. Even though they are not a member of the group.

I have the latest versions of WordPress, BuddyPress and bbPress as at today.

I just ran 2 forum repairs:
    – Recalculate private and hidden forums
    – Repair BuddyPress Group Forum relationships

and now I have a another problem. I’ve actually been experiencing this problem on and off now for about 2 weeks and I’m starting to pull my hair out!

So now if I go to the forum list (at the category level) I can see that there are topics in the child forums. But when I click through to the child forum it tells me “Oh bother! No topics were found here!” This is for a group that the user is a member of. There are definitely topics in that forum.

If I change the user from a Participant to a Moderator they can see the topics.

If I change them back to a Participant and then toggle the forum from private to public to private they can see the topics again. I have done this toggling of forum visibility several times over the past week and it only lasts for a day or two, then I’m back at this problem.

    Further testing:
    – I’ve changed to TwentyFifteen theme
    – deactivated all plugins except for BuddyPress and bbPress

I still can’t see topics that the user should be able to see. And they can access a private forum they aren’t a member of.

Where do I even begin to figure out what is going wrong with this site? Thank you!

PS I have logged this in trac: https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2947

Its a closed site and a test account. I was hoping for some quick help. Unfortunately the activity on this forum is less than quick it seems. I like bbpress and buddy press a bunch. But buddy press seems like a complete mess to customize.

Yeah, a pure MySQL will always be better, for bbPress 1.x imports both the topics and replies steps of the imports have a table join that is currently required for topics to determine the 1st post and ignore replies, then for replies to ignore the topic.

I’ve got some ideas on how we can eliminate this join which would speed things up significantly but that will have to wait a bit as it involves refactoring the entire process, that then means refactoring the other ~24 importers to also work. At the moment this process is all manual, try this, try that, and that makes it incredibly time consuming. Hopefully not to far down the road I can automate much of this with bbPress’ new testing setup much of the manual work can be eliminated and iterating the importers can happen alot faster.

    Hi, thanks for reaching out.

I may be conflicting with something in my theme but as soon as I shut it down everything worked. The plugins Im using are listed above and using this theme. http://themeforest.net/item/mariana-handmade-blog-shop/12515663

This is not the first time I had issues with your plugin, I did with another theme as well. I actually blogged about it. 🙂 I still recommend the plugin, when it worked, it worked well, its a spam animal!

Right now Im just testing the forums on my site, they are not live, I have the plugin reactivated. I get crazy spam! ha ha I need it.

When I get ready to really roll I can reach out as the plugin is working fine otherwise.

    Hi there Kelly,

I’m the developer of WP-SpamShield. I’m sorry to hear about the issue you’re having and I’ll be happy to help.

That sounds like you have a some type of conflict that is more specific to your site setup or configuration. We have a lot of users on bbPress, and most are having no issues. (We do a lot of testing to ensure compatibility.) So, there shouldn’t be any generalized conflicts with bbPress.

We have put together some excellent troubleshooting options for our plugin users, including FAQs, a Troubleshooting Guide, Known Conflicts page, and Support Request page.

Please take a few minutes to work through the Troubleshooting Guide and FAQs, as these solve over 90% of issues users have.

One of the things that the Troubleshooting Guide and FAQs will ask you to do is turn on logging. When logging is enabled, anything the plugin blocks will be logged. If you feel that there is a conflict, and something is being blocked that shouldn’t be, you can test it out after you enable logging. If it doesn’t show up in the log, then that tells you that something other than the plugin is blocking it.

If the information provided doesn’t solve the issue for you, we’ll need a bit more info from you on the specifics, and we’ll need to email back and forth, so please head over to the WP-SpamShield Support Form, and take a moment to fill out a support request. That will allow us to help you diagnose this, find out what the real issue is, and get things working right for you. (If the issue does by chance turn out to be a bug in the plugin, we always try to fix those within 24 hours, and get a new version out with the fix.)

    – Scott

Please note that the WP-SpamShield Support page is our main support venue, not the WordPress or bbPress forums here, so that will always be the best way to get a quick response and resolve any tech support issues.

    Okay definitely not just CSS.

So any new simple text post will not submit in the frontend of your site in a topic?? If a participant say had the the link limit you set in Settings > Disscussion their post would have the status pending which won’t show up regularly in the topic list of a forum.

It could be a possible tricky caching issue.

If you do not mind, you can contact me through email, and give me login details of a participant user so I could test out what is the issue.

    Hi,

I just installed on a test domain WordPress, bbPress and WPML. All are updated to the latest versions. I don’t use any other plugins and the theme is also the default one, Twenty Sixteen.

I setup 2 languages: german as default and english. So the URLs are like this.

    website.com
    website.com/en

I posted some topics in bbPress in both languages and I can see them per language, which is what I want. On the german version I see only the german posts and on the english version I see only the english post.

Of course, a problem may be with the bbPress slugs settings. I cannot translate them but I can live with them.

What I noticed is that when I go to profile and try to see the “Topics Started”, “Favorites” and “Subscriptions”, I see only a message that I don’t have any of those, although on the main Profile page shows that I have started 11 topics.

That might be also a problem because it counts the topics from both languages. But I can live with that also, for the moment.

I switched the languages and I made english default. After doing this, everything worked fine in english but not anymore in german, because german became the second language.

Basically, I can see the “Topics Started”, “Favorites” and “Subscriptions” only for the default language.

Only “Replies Created” show up for both languages.

    I also attached some screenshots.

I also changed the theme from Twenty Sixteen to Twenty Fifteen and also Twenty Fourteen. Same problem.

I setup another test website as WP Multisite, without WPML and everything works properly. I had to install another plugin to connect both languages. But I would like to use WPML and a single website, if this is possible.

I hope there is a fix for this. bbPress is the most used forum and WPML should be able to handle it.

Thank you very much for your time.

    Best Regards,
    Alin

    Hello community:

I’ve been testing the BBPress, and when a suscriptor user posts a message, only first time, his message must to be approved by the administrator. When the admin approves the message, automatically, the next follow messages are approved with the previos approval of the admin. The question is, How I set the BBPress for each message must to be approved by the admin?

I have the number of replies per page set to 25. With Threading disabled, this works without an issue. However with Threading enabled, topics don’t get split into pages of 25 replies, and no pagination shows up. It basically ends up being a very long page of hundreds replies, all stuffed in that one page.

Is this a bug in the script, or am I doing something wrong? I have the latest version of bbPress, WP and BuddyPress, and use customized TwentySixteen theme.

    Hi,
That’s typically a conflict with a theme or another plugin. Please switch to a default theme and deactivate all but bbPress. Test.
Then switch on plugins one after the other to find the one blocking.

    Pascal.

Hi – I just installed BBPress and I can’t seem to have the admin reply to any posts. I created an account under the name Hutad and tried to reply as the Admin and can’t see the response live on the site. It’s in my backend but not live. I am using a custom theme.
Here is the link to the topic/website

bbPress is tested with wordpress default themes. It maybe a conflict

As Cherrypress is a paid theme – then contact the theme author for help.

    I used the plugin wp-members

    Is it this plugin??

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-members/

I cannot seem to figure out how you did the members area thing with this plugin (if it is the correct plugin).

So I have done loads more searching and it is known problem which BBPress do nothing about

Well there might be related issues to search redirecting to the home page, some had issues with the search query having a url structure and query different than intended by default, and some had issues with search plugins on their site, and I think some I tried to contact personally to help them since they had a premium theme and it is hard to just figure it out on premium themes that might have some kind of fancy ajax search having conflicts with the default bbPress search for example. Your issue could be somewhat related to the url structure.

Do you have any steps that maybe I can try to replicate to find the cause of this issue, like explain how you set everything up?

So you ditch the BBPress function, it does not work. And amend the normal search to include forums.

Yes this can be a workaround for some, but since you may have private members only content this solution may not be practical.

Does the default bbPress search work fine on a fresh installation with just your theme and no other plugins like wp-members?

If you haven’t already known if bbPress search works by default with just your theme and bbPress activated, consider created a localhost setup to test the default bbPress search to see if it works on a default fresh installation, then we can work backwards and try to find the cause of this issue that you are experiencing.

@pathardepavan — post_parent is in the posts table rather than postmeta so instead of updating post meta, update the object in wp_posts. So your update callback function (update_topic_post_parent) would be something like:

    function update_topic_post_parent( $value, $object, $field_name ){
    $update_post_parent = array(
'ID' => (int)$object->ID, // the ID of the topic you just created
'post_parent' => (int)$value ); // whatever you want your post_parent to be as an int. You could use $field_name for 'post_parent' here but I tend to whitelist

    wp_update_post( $update_post_parent )
    }

and you should be able to get the post_parent from the $object directly in your get callback I think.

Also if you’re using one of the latest versions of the plugin, you should use register_rest_field as register_api_field has been deprecated.

(I’m doing this without any testing, sorry, so it might be incorrect! But I think that’s somewhere close to the answer maybe 🙂 )

    Hello,

if you look at our latest topic, you will see the blue notice bar. In in, the time is formatted incorrect. There should be a comma, or even better, the word “und” between the hours and the minutes, not a full stop. I tried to change it in the translation, but there is only a code for the whole timestamp. I would suggest to update bbpress in this regard, so the timestamp becomes localizable.

    all forums
    new forums
    forum moderators

    or what do you get?

sorry but my test site is set up for buddypress at the mo for something else, so don’t want to alter to see what you get with just bbpress and my private groups

Do you agree with the fact that “Moderator – Cannot create and edit forums”?

Not sure I either agree or disagree, or that it is a fact – I’m trying to help here, I’m not trying win an argument in a bar, but as a user of this software I haven’t tested every feature 🙂

The documentation for bbpress says that moderators can publish and edit forums

    https://codex.bbpress.org/getting-started/before-installing/bbpress-user-roles-and-capabilities/

Is it this that you are asserting isn’t true?

    Robkk

Okay I tested the bbPress forum search on my localhost setup with the latest bbPress, BuddyPress, and WordPress, and I have no issues.

I am running a default setup, and I do not have the forums under a directory called “members area” though. If you run bbPress in the default setup without putting it under the “members area” directory would it work on your site if you searched “forum” for your only forum on your site?

I am not entirely sure how you did the members area directory on your site in the first place, I am not entirely sure it is a sub directory in a multisite setup.
