This can be closed I suppose, since I tried out phpbb3 and with a little tinkering, and installing IIS with SMTP, got it to work.
Just an update to who ever reads this…. im not going to mess around with bbpress anymore…. if an application is this finiky and wont install properly and do what its suppose to then i do not want anything to do with it…..
I have installed hundreded of different php applications …. so either i am just dumb and dont know what i am doing or this doesnt work properly…..
i also dont want to sit around waiting a week for someone to reply like most people been doing….
I will stick with my wordpress and my phpbb both of them installed and works perfectly…
I even went the extra step and installed it in the root of my site instead of in the root of wordpress installation
so my url should of looked like this example.com/forum and after installation it still went to exmaple.com/forum/forum and said page can not be found and it does the same thing with the admin panel….
and this time i skipped the wordpress installation just to see if i could get the forum working by its self first with its own mysql database….
with no luck after a week and spending all day trying to get it to work properly i just give up…..
i would not recomment bbpress to anyone who wants an easy installation and a smooth process because its anything but that….
Have fun with this crap…
bye

Its great idea to have sub forums.
@rickdlewis – You’ve got a lot going on there. Between potential problems with your phpBB migration, porting your phpBB users into the WP user tables, problems with WP integration and user roles/capabilities, and problems with BuddyPress trying to take ownership of your bbPress installation, there are a ton of places where fallout can occur.
First things first, do you have direct access to your database, either through phpMyAdmin, or another SQL interface of some kind?

Hey guys. I am having a heck of a time with getting BBpress setup and integrated with WP.
This is a MU install and both share the same database. I did pull the data into BBpress from phpbb and prior to doing the final step of WP integration things all work great. Forums , posts , topics, users all work.
I hit the wp integration using wp_ and now I am told I am not a user on the site. Can’t recover my password or anything. Can’t log in using the keymaster account I setup on install or any other account.
All the users are there in the database just fine but no one can log in. It’s like they are all invisible.
I want WP to be my main log in system not bbpress so I assumed integrating was the key to making that happen. I need the users from bbpress to be on the WP side as users and be able to log in and use both properly.
One more thing I guess to throw into the mix is, I do also use buddypress.
Looking for any help and advice.
Thanks.
I will second that this thing works. Not perfect but damn near close. Thanks to the person who created it and updated it!

just gave this a shot and got a general error. Said I had a syntax error in a certain line. Can not get passed that point and haven’t a clue how to correct it.
Tried once to go back and restart the process and when it came to the same point he says now I have a duplicate. Makes sense if it had already added some info to the database.
If anything has some ideas I would appreciate the help.
Thanks.
I can confirm that plugin works like a charm. Unfortunately, it does not take avatars though.

I’d like to move my phpBB forum into a bbPress system? Is it doable? If so could you provide me with links?
Thanks in advance!

Sorry for bump but is more important for me.
I’ve converted my smf to phpbb3 to bbpress and now i want try to convert a specific board (News Board: 650 Posts | 206 Topics) in WordPress article (with all replies). Is there any way to make this (is the opposite of this topic request)?

I’ve a valid smf+phpbb3+bbpress database in my local webserver and i can try to convert to other board/script if is necessary – i require to convert only this board in wordpress and all the rest of forum can remain intact.
Thanks in advance, DarkWolf.

‘PS: I forgot to check this thread in case there were replies, because I automatically get an email from every other forum I belong to. Old habits die hard. Agora has an automatic emailing function built in, it’s not a plug in. ‘
What’s so bad about installing that plugin? I am also used to phpbb and I once tried o work with joomla. I have to say, that I like WP more as a CMS (alhough it is none) because I’m simply too stupid for the Joomla stuff, and I have difficulties setting up phpbb. I will definitely give bbpress a try, if having to set up my next forum.
PHPbb is driving me nuts.
Does bbpress allow multiple installs, to share one user table. Without corrupting and resetting forum permissions?

Hey all,
I was wondering if it’s possible to bypass the bbPress login/registration and just authorize users based on the usertable I have in my MediaWiki installation. I’ve been able to do this with phpBB and vBulletin, so I guess there should be a way to do this for bbPress, right?
Where would I start doing this? As far as I could see there’s no existing plugin for this. I see there’s an LDAP plugin though, so I could take that one and try to rewrite it to use a regular mysql database. Or are there better ways to achieve this?
Thanks!
NOTE: There are some plugins that let MediaWiki use your WordPress/bbPress database. What I’m looking for goes the other way round. I have MediaWiki, and I want bbPress to auth against it.
Thanks for this converter! I have managed to sucesfully convert a phpbb3.0.8 forum to a bbpress one, but one problem remains, how can i convert attachments as well?
My forum heavily depends on people attaching images, migrating to bbpress and losing attachments is like losing half the fun.
Any help?
this is helpful.. thanks!! good stuff!! cheers!
is this for real.. hope i could get this!
