Does anyone have some expertise with importing from the stand-alone bbPress? I created another topic a while back with a very detailed account of my failed attempts at importing a somewhat large forum.

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbpress-plugin-20-rc-1-large-forum-import-failure

There haven’t been any responses yet so I’d be grateful for anyone who might have some further ideas to try. I’d be happy to dig in and share my findings with everyone if I can get pointed in the right direction.

You can use the Dashboard’s menu’s to see most of that.

If you use the default ordering of topics and posts, combined with the excerpt view, it displays the items by freshness and gives a small preview of all which happens on your forums.

From a UX point of view, I don’t find the page with the forums very user-friendly. I’ve got a pretty high screen resolution, but I have to scroll down to see the forums which I expect to be there.

I’d put the forums on top and the login and such at the bottom. If I want to read, I can go right ahead. If what I read interests me, I’d look for a way to sign in anyway… But the content should come first.

Pretty excited to see if you can find another topic to paste that link into.

I discovered this problem today and it’s so frustrating I don’t know what causes it:

On most topics I can only see the first post per page. I can turn the page, but only the first one shows up on that particular page. Nothing under the post shows up, not even the html tags are put out. The HTML just ends with ‘[less_than]li id=”post-1218″ class=”alt”[greater_than][less_than]div id=”position-‘.

I later discovered that I can only see a finished, normally rendered page if only one post shows up (e.g. the items per page is set to 15 and there are 16 posts on the topic and I’m on the last page).

The reply section only shows up if the above condition is met and I’m on the last page. After I send my post, it makes the number of posts on that page 2, so again, I can only see the first one and nothing below it.

I was using version 1.0.2 with the Ajaxed Quote 1.2, Allow Images 0.9, bbPM 1.0.1, Private Forums 5.0 and reCAPTCHA bbPress 0.2 plugins when I discovered the problem.

Shortly after that I updated to bbPress 1.0.3 thinking that a file might got corrupted, but the problem hasn’t been solved.

The strange thing is that I didn’t update or change anything in bbPress since yesterday (when it was working correctly).

I have no control for the phpversion, this is on a server I bought access to, so this might have got updated. phpinfo says: version 5.2.17-0.dotdeb.0

I was searching in the database too for a potential malitious comment (because I have had spam users despite using captcha) but I haven’t found any. Plus the nature of the problem doesn’t hint to that. (I can see all posts if I set the items per page to 1).

    MySQL version: 5.1.49-3

BTW, everything in the admin area and besides this problem seems to be working just fine.

    Please help me.

    Thanks,

    Peter

I’m having the same problem with a floating.js script. It works fine on my main site, but not on the bbpress site. Implementation is identical.

    Excellent, thanks! :-)

I’ve added a multisite option to handle the assigning of the default role and caps. I see value in having it work either way, and can see a case for toggling this setting even on a per site basis.

    Multisite crisis averted. :)

You might want to give this one a try:

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-post-toolbar/

    #107650

Well actually, all I want is some buttons for text markup and links and a way for users to add a picture to the post. Apparently the plugins I picked can’t do that.

I really like bbPress a lot, as far as i can see. It’s simple and the visitors of the site i’m building it for aren’t geeks, so it looks just perfect. But adding a picture and links would be nice.

@7i7GRiFFiN – bbPress 2.x is still in beta. It’s perfectly normal that it has ‘problems’, that’s the risk of running beta software.

Are you sure the plugins are made for bbPress 2.x? Otherwise you’ll be spending a lot of time looking into it without any result in the end ;)

@Trifon, (As far as functionality that I’d like to se…) I wouldn’t mind seeing a real admin page that tells me who has been posting and a 24 hour snapshot of activity. (sort of like a google analytics snapshot)

I moved all my forum functions (login and so forth) from the side panel to it’s own page which is accessed from the menu bar at the top of the page. I would love feedback of my forum page from this group of people who I feel have a clue…

My page is http://www.jeff-foliage.com and on the menu bar it’s foliage forum. You can also use the contact function but I think having a critique back here would be more beneficial to others.

I just want to know if I’m missing anything

why not use the integrated bbPress (Twenty Ten) 1.2 default theme and edit it?

if you need a custon theme then your choise is to pay someone who’ll create you one.

    #107648

    @pimarts: thanks :)

    I can activate them now.

It would be nice when the readme.txt of the plugins would tell me that too ;)

It still doesn’t work, no buttons to make up the text or add images in sight though , i will look further.

I prefer use SMF now after many try for using bbPress. Cause bbP not answer a webmaster needs. SMF is simple and useful for wordpress. If bbP get updates and be useful i swear I use it because I translated many of it plugins to use but this bbP have many problems! SMF in same version is better than this.

Plugins for bbPress (2.x) work just like other WordPress plugins.

So install them like any other WordPress plugin, you don’t need to make a directory in the bbpress directory and put em there or anything.

Make sure they’re compatible with bbPress 2.x though.

Hi, I’m new to bbPress and have a question:

    I’ve installed ppBress 2-0-beta 3 in WordPress 3.2.1

I made a directory /wp-content/plugins/bbpress/my-plugins and put in two plugins:

    BBcode-lite.php and allow-images.php

Where can i activate them? They don’t show up in the plugin list /wp-admin/plugins.php and i don’t see a list with the forum-settings. And the plugins don’t seen to be working.

    What am i missing here?
