Ok, I keep fingers crossed that some day replay tracking will be implemented in bbpress core or as separate plugin, until that I keep sitting on standalone 1.x forum version. π
I can definitely see how that can play a major role, but it’s definitely not going to make it in for now, at least not right away.
Keeping track of replies like that is a whole new ball game.
I’ve been talkin with JJJ (lead bbPress developer) about how we might work to integrate these features into the plugin core. Tracking replies will probably definitely be something we’ll look into then.
“In regards to going to the last reply, this actually wonβt be possible (not in the scope of this plugin), simply because this is tracking whether the topic has been viewed, not whether there is a new reply. For tracking new replies, simply use the existing Subscribe feature.”
To be honest, then its useless, at least in my case. I`m leading the home brew forum (http://forums.kupla.lv), where every user (at least those 50 active ones) is interested in every unread post, so it would be stupid to subscribe again and again to every single topic whats added new to forum. Although, in some hot topics, sometimes there are about 1500 posts, so imagine when you enter topic after couple of days being offline how you will remember which of 60 pages was the last what you have read. :-/
I can only kindly ask, to consider adding this as well. Without that I will keep sitting on bbpress 1.0.2, because that simple “Unread Posts” plugin written by ck has become a major, unreplaceable feature of forum.

I used these instructions ( http://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/#c-set-up-sitewide-forums-only ) to try to install bbPress. Site is two days old, so all software and plugins are new (and I’ve only added BP and bbP).
The forums work, but I can’t get a link to show in the header:
http://unifyyoseikan.org/forums
I’ve tried many things, including:
– Reinstalling bbPress several times
– Deactivating bbPress so the Directories link to connect “Discussion Forums” and the Forums Page can be set, then reactivating bbPress.
– Keeping or deleting the Forums Page (having it exist prevents forum from working)
– Kludging, by manually creating a page with a different url (/discuss) which forwards to /forums with the url redirection meta tag.
– Reading and re-reading the afforementioned instructions, some parts of which don’t make sense to me. e.g.: “Since you are setting up Sitewide Forums only, a) Disable (uncheck) Discussion Forums in the Settings > BuddyPress > Components panel”
So far the ugly kludge is the only thing that provided both a link in the header and a successful load of the /forums page.

I am running bbPress version 2.1.2 and I have checked the box for ‘Use the fancy WordPress editor” under Settings -> Forums but all I see is a regular textbox. What is the correct way to enable the WYSIWYG editor on bbPress?
Just to add, it almost seems like the form content for bbpress isn’t pushing the div.container margin down for some reason. Is there any CSS code I could add to the bbpress CSS file to force the height of the form to push the div container down to fit?
Removing what I highlight in the image makes the content visable but when reszing the editor it doesn’t resize the container but this all works like a dream when editing the very first post in the thread which is causing me utter confusion…
Travel to last unread reply is “must have” feature. I dont think some special arrow is needed, the old 1.x bbpress plugin worked so, that in latest topics page you see unread topics in different collor and when you entered that topic, it automaticaly bring you to last unread post in that topic. It was simple and perfect.

ok found a solution
function my_custom_bbp_stylesheet(){
wp_deregister_style( 'bbp-default-bbpress' );
wp_enqueue_style( 'bbp-default-bbpress', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . 'mystylesheet.css' );
}
add_action( 'bbp_enqueue_scripts', 'my_custom_bbp_stylesheet' );
I want to deregister the default stylesheet that bbpress load when in compatibility theme mode
I tried with wp_deregister_style( ‘bbp-default-bbpress-css’ ) which is what I see in the header… but I think I need to filter something or remove an action
is this documented?
thank you
Did you run ‘Repair Forums’ after the import?

Is this the correct URL for your new forums? httpp://elanillounico.com/forums
Hello,
I am new to WP and BBpress. Slowly learning the ropes as I play with the software. π
I have my forums setup like this:
States
- Alabama
- Swap Meet
- Bulletin Board
- Alaska
- Swap Meet
- Bulletin Board
- Arizona
- Swap Meet
- Bulletin Board
- Etc.
I am sending users to a page that holds the “Create Topic” block to post directly into one of these forums. Problem is the user only has one drop down menu for selecting the forum to post in. That is a very large drop down list and could be confusing to the users.
I would like to add a second drop down menu for selecting the sub-menu to post in.
Example: User gets taken to the create topic page, fills in the information, select their state from drop down menu #1, then selects the sub forum. Press submit and it gets posted in the correct forum.
How do I go about doing this?
Please keep in mind that I am new to all of this and detailed directions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks SO much!
So with what bbpress currently has, I would like to ask a few things.
1. Are there separate themes completely?
2. I want a button so there’s a new topic button, not just a random forum at the bottom, is that possible? Same goes for replying inside a topic
3. If there aren’t any individual themes, all I want is for the background to be black, and forum titles to be white with a new topic button at the top menubar.
Wordpress v3.4.2 bbpress up-to-date
Hey guys,
So what I have done so far is create a forum. I made the parent forum and the category works perfectly for it. However I want to make a sticky that goes at the top that stays there that explains how the forums work etc. Only I can’t because it’s a category. Any workarounds? People can’t be allowed to post in the parent forum so. Also, I want to know how to get it so that the highest rated forums are the ones that appear at the top, like maybe have a rating on each one you can click on in the forum at the bottom of each post?
My wordpress is the newest one out, 3.4.2 and the bbpress is the most updated one.
Thanks – Zach
I’m running the latest version of WordPress and bbPress (forget to mention that, sorry)
I’ve got a strange layout issue on my bbpress forums where if you try to edit a “reply” in a topic the page content is cut off by a div; this doesnt effect editing the very first post of any topic however; which is strange because all the code, CSS classes etc look the same. I thought maybe a bbpress reply page used a different template.. but I’m not sure.
Please see image.
Link to image with further details
Certainly hope someone can help as this is driving me nuts and I’ve spent ages getting the rest of bbpress to fit my theme only to discover this bug now π
Please help!
I’ve added the option to mark all topics as read.
There is definitely a bug at the moment that causes the profile page to not accurately show all unread topics on existing bbPress installs. Going to try and work that one out.
Just tried again and the reply the window gives me is:
Repair any missing information: Continue
Conversion Complete
No replies to convert
No tags to convert
Converting topics (47000 - 47999)
Any ideas? Thanks!
Just tried (twice) to install bbPress (latest version into WP 3.4.2. After the install, the site is there, but the admin screen \wp-admin) returns no data at all. The only way to recover was to delete folder and begin again. Have done this TWICE now. Bluehost, WP was installed through Fantastico.
The plug-in appeared in the list of available plug-ins, I clicked on activate, screen went white, and could not access admin after that. Checked from my iPhone and iPad, same issue…
HELP!!!!!

This one works as expected -> “version with some ajax that will automatically mark topics as read after you have viewed them for at least 10 seconds”
I`m using “Response” theme. bbpress 2.1.2
With latest commit, started to apear something under users profile “Unread Forum Topics Viewing 30 topics – 1 through 30 (of 436 total)” Its already late, will try to play a bit tomorrow if have time.
By the way, maybe you can suggest theme what to use to have proper components?

Another update: so that read/unread topics can be styled, I’ve added two class names to the topic wrapper:
.bbp-topic-read if a topic has been read by the current user.
.bbp-topic-unread if a topic has not been read by the current user.

What theme are you using? It’s very possible that your theme is missing a couple of vital components, which would make it so the Unread Topics section doesn’t show. Also, what version of bbPress?
“You can also view a list of all unread topics by going to your bbPress profile, in the same way you would view favorites or subscribed topics.”
Under users Y profile I dont see unread posts as well
“Unread Forum Topics
You have read every posted topic.”
I made a look on it. I was able to activate plugin. I see Mark as Read/Unread link next to the Subscribe/Unsubscribe links on topics.
But I can not recognize unread topics, they look exactly the same like regular topics. What I did is:
-activated plugin
-used existing topic, where users X and Y are chatting
-logged in with user X and posted reply
-logged in with user Y on topics page, but dont see any difference, that one where user X replied minutes ago looks exactly same like others.
-tried to create new topic with user X and then login with user Y
Maybe I dont fully understand planed functionality? Or it depends from theme and something should be added to CSS file?
Previous plugin for old 1.x BBpress forum was working so that it marked unread topics (totaly new topics and old ones where new replies were submitted after users last visit) in different color.
Alright, I have an initial version done and ready for anyone who wants to test it. Just download it from Github (it will be on the repo shortly).
It will add a Mark as Read/Unread link next to the Subscribe/Unsubscribe links on topics.
You can also view a list of all unread topics by going to your bbPress profile, in the same way you would view favorites or subscribed topics.

A few things I have left to do:
- Auto mark a topic as read when replying
- Auto marking a topic as read once on the page for more than a few seconds
- Create a widget to show unread topics
Anything else?
Any solution to this yet?
I have a similar problem in my 2.1.1 bbpress install, no buddy press…..
