    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/bbpress has most of the current plugins available for bbpress 2.0

    Install bbPress 2.x plugins the same way you install WordPress plugins. There is not a separate bbPress 2.0 plugin installer/menu/etc.

    Your request can be accomplished with a little grunt work. Are you asking for an “all-in-one” shortcode?

    …with the exception of being able to hide the sidebars.

    Content areas and sidebars are independent areas within a WordPress installation. Hiding the sidebar can be accomplished a few different ways: Within Appearance > Widgets, or you could comment out the code in the template files. But sidebars/widgets are always independent of content areas.

    Why can’t the whole forum be put into a short-code so it can be applied inside a full-width page?

    Why can’t a full width page be created and the shortcode placed inside? That is more in tune with what WordPress is built to do. Create a page. Give it a full width template (if your theme provides it), and place the shortcode within that page. Anything after that is accomplished is a style issue. I just wrote a post about full-width forums in your other topic:

    Full-Width Forum

    You can also read up on shortcodes here:

    bbPress 2.0 – Shortcodes

    bbPress does a good job of being a forum out of the box. Sure, there are issues, but the code is still in its infancy. Any cosmetic customization is up to the user, however.

    I set this up no a multisite wordpress site, and it all looks good. The main problem I am having at the moment is that when viewing a forum, i only get to see the [Resolved] tag, I cannot see the [Not-resolved] or [not a supprt question tags]. I have checked the settings in both my main site and my subsite, and all Display status boxes are ticked

    Hi all

    I am currently setting up a multi-site wordpress install which will have distinct groups of people, each with access to the forum, one sub-site for their group, and the main pages. I am currently trying to set up a hidden/private forum for each group of users.

    My back up plan is to create a seperate forum in each subsite, but I would prefer to be able to have all the forums together.

    Each group of users will have slightly different roles and capabilites, so I can add capabilities such as view_group1_forums etc. if it is possible to create multiple types of hidden forum.

    I am running wordpress 3.1.2 with bbpress 2.0

    I have tested several forums with WordPress. Both as separate program and as integrated program/plugin. Every forum we tested had major issues that would prevent being used on our site.

    We have installed bbpress plugin and found it very flexible with the exception of being able to hide the sidebars.

    Why can’t the whole forum be put into a short-code so it can be applied inside a full-width page?

    This forum is full of questions and requests for ppPress to be imbedded via short-code right into a full-width page. Why is it so hard to accomplish this. Afterall, ppPress is written by the same people that created wordpress.

    This is very frustrating.

    I’ve been following the trac ticket http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/17144 where we are now able to bring the editor to the front end of our sites. Seemed like a perfect addition to bbPress.

    Has anyone come across a good tutorial on using the new api?

    I think I read somewhere that the way to do this would be to extend a WordPress plugin that adds bbcode to wordpress posts, such as the bOingball BBCode plugin to also apply to bbpress posts and replies.

    I also need this feature and would be willing to do the work coding it. At the moment though I’m not sure how to begin unless someone can quickly teach me the basics for making a wordpress shortcode active in bbpress forum posts… ^-^

    You just need WordPress to do that. Create a new page for each topic and turn comments on. Just make sure only registered members can comment.

    bbPress 2.0 uses the same theme as the WordPress site it’s part of. You won’t find separate bbPress 2.0 themes as you would with bbPress 1.0.

    Hey!

    Ive for ages trying to find a solution to my problem. I need a forum for my website and the Ive chosen BBpress. The thing is that I don’t want the bbpress theme to affect my wordpress theme. I´ve downloaded several themes, but have no idea where to install and how to activate. I also wonder if there are any place out there where I can download free or premium bbpress 2.0 themes?

    I feel quiet stupid, since I look at my self as a person that usually figure things out ;)

    Thanks,

    Christoffer

    Hi there!

    Like some other users I noticed a missing search feature for the new and awesome bbPress 2.0+ plugin. So I just released a small and leightweight plugin for that:

    bbPress Search Widget

    Info & download at WP.org:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-search-widget/

    -> it’s limited to the custom post types of bbPress: forums, topics, replies

    -> there’s a drop-down to select one of these (a must) – so it also helps fine tune the search for the visitor…

    -> it’s fully localized so you might translate the few strings into your language – I will attach any translations which are submitted to me!

    I hope it’s useful for you.

    Have fun :)

    Any feedback is very welcomed of course!

    -Thanx, Dave from Germany :)

    @Erlend:

    I know this already, but that doesn’t help here yet because the plugin developers have to implement the gettext strings first, so it actually becomes translateable.

    That’s a pity with a lot of great plugins: all hard-coded text strings so nearly unuseable for international users. Since we’re two thirds of all WordPress users worldwide – and growing – localization/internationalization is a really hot and important topic. EVERY WordPress developer should consider this.

    In NO way I want to disregard the awesome work of the devs of this support plugin just encourage them to make this final step :-)

    -Thanx, Dave :)

    Use the WordPress one. It’s just posts and taxonomies. :)

    Hey everyone.

    We’re using the new 2.0 plugin and we’re running into a couple issues that are making it a bit difficult for us to use BBPress in the way we were intending to.

    We have two separate forums right now, one for any user and a second customer only forum. Originally I set it up so that these customer-only forums were private, with read/write access restricted to a particular user-role that our customers get assigned to.

    One of the things I’m struggling with the plugin is why these private forums/topics send non-customers to the 404 page instead of actually displaying that particular forum/thread with a message warning that person viewing that is it a private forum, or some other kind of message.

    Seeing how integrated 2.0 is with WordPress, I’m rather surprised that there isn’t some kind of built-in association with user roles so that you can set certain forums to have restricted access based on these roles other than using a user role managing plugin.

    Is there something fundamental about BBPress 2.0 that I am missing here? Is this a feature that is being planned? As it stands it is a bit difficult to do what we are trying to achieve right now.

    Thank you in advance for any advice/feedback related to this matter.

    I tried to access the forum via the original link http://www.8ball.lu/wordpress/?p=3448. But that links changes the line in the address bar to the nice address http://www.8ball.lu/wordpress/forums/forum/one-new-test-forum and it still gives 404 error.

    regarding the other plugins, true i have 26 plugins active, which i all use.

    Are there any known conflicts with other plugins? Just to know before i will make a clean install.

    Thank you

    @eraleks

    Let’s assume that you created a new sidebar called ‘bbpress’ via your functions file. This means that when you go to the sidebar manager, that you can see one called bbpress.

    Next, take the sidebar.php file from your theme and make a copy. Name it bbpress-sidebar.php.

    Here is an example of my bbpress-sidebar.php code.

    <div id="sidebar" role="complementary">

    <?php if ( !function_exists('dynamic_sidebar') || !dynamic_sidebar('bbpress') ) : ?>
    <?php endif; ?>

    </div>

    Finally there are a number of bbpress templates that call the sidebar. Replace those calls with:

    <?php get_sidebar( 'bbpress' ); ?>

    Wrapping up:

    1. You registered a new sidebar called ‘bbpress’

    2. You created a new template file called bbpress-sidebar.php

    3. You edited the bbpress-sidebar.php file to ask for the bbPress sidebar.

    4. You replaced all the calls to the sidebar with the new call to the bbpress sidebar.

    That’s about it. If it is still causing you problems then I suggest reading a few resources.

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/register_sidebar

    http://justintadlock.com/archives/2010/11/08/sidebars-in-wordpress

    *Author avatars.

    JJ already thought about this and added in a filter where you can choose to display just the username and not the avatar.

    <?php bbp_topic_author_link( array( 'type' => 'name' ) ); ?>

    You will see a lot of functions like the one above throughout the bbPress templates. Anywhere you find an avatar that you want to remove and just show the username, simply add the ‘type’ => ‘name’ and your good to go.

    **There may be a global way of doing this, but I did not look as I didn’t need it myself.

    Are you using BuddyPress? If so, are you using the forum component?

    What are your settings in Dashboard > Settings > Forums for Archive Slugs & Single Slugs?

    Are there any potential BuddyPress link errors (if BP is indeed installed)?

    Have you (un)prefixed your forum with the forum slug/changed any settings in this area?

    Have you tried accessing the forums/topics via the original fuglylink? (http://www.8ball.lu/wordpress/?p=### [where ### is the ID of the forum/topic]).

    Lastly, are there any other plugins activated?

    Hi!

    I have created custom sidebars.

    And I see in the .php files that there’s always the <?php get_sidebar(); ?> in the bottom. Somewhere I read that I should inside the () add the name of the forum, but where do I find this name/adress to the sidebars I have created?

    Also: I have a wordpress plug-in “user image” that lets users have profile pictures. The problem is that bbpress inserts the profil picture everywhere it inserts the username which makes the forum look really messy. Any suggestions?

    Best regards

    Aleksander

    I’m using numeric permalink structure.

    Well, i installed my test environment into that subdirectory. But the links see to be created nicely and logically:

    to the forum

    http://www.8ball.lu/wordpress/forums/forum/second-new-test-forum

    to the topic

    http://www.8ball.lu/wordpress/forums/topic/testing-topic-2

    even if i add a trailing slash at the end of a link, it doesnt work anyway.

    I am completely lost here. I have read every post in this forum about the similar problems, but never saw an insuring answer :(

    You can use a new plugin for that to re-store the behavior with different user profile pages for BuddyPress and bbPress:

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/disable-bbpress-profile-override/

    Hope this works for you, Dave :)

    This is just a stab in the dark, but it looks like there is a URL problem.

    The URL to your forums topics are missing a trailing slash /.

    What permalink structure are you using? It may be because you’ve installed into a subdirectory also (8ball.lu/wordpress/).

    Any further detail may help.

    In reply to: bbPress Language Files

    bardo

    Also looking for the solution, I resorted to reading the code and found it. Quick version: bbPress inherits WordPress’ locale string. Suppose it’s ‘it_IT’. Then you will have to put your language file in wp-content/languages/bbpress/bbpress-it_IT.mo ;-)

    In-depth version: in bbpress.php you can find the load_textdomain() function (line 524 ATM). There you can see it gets the WordPress locale, then uses it to compose the language filename in the $mofile variable. $mofile in our example case is set to ‘bbpress-it_IT.mo’, and this filename is looked for in the ‘wp-content/plugins/bbpress/bbp-languages’ directory first (which, as index.php says, should not be used), and then in the ‘wp-content/languages/bbpress/’ directory. Just put it there named like we found before and you’re done.
