    Wouter, I use it in WordPress as a plugin. I can not help you with a standalone version since I have no experience on that field.

    Sorry for the confusion and good luck with the translations!

    I don’t think you fully understand what roles and capabilities are. Furthermore, did you try the plugin I suggested? It’s quite different from the “WordPress Access Control” plugin which doesn’t provide you with the ability to modify the capabilities different roles have. The documentation is indeed outdated since the way people register has changed in bbpress 2.x.. The same functionality that the user role map appears to have had (I never used bbpress before 2.x), can now be found under General > Settings > New user default role.

    It can never be full width as long as you don’t remove that sidebar. You can use Widgetlogic in order to only make your widgets disappear on your forum.

    I am using a great plugin called “WordPress Access Control” right now and I really like it.

    I don’t understand how to assign any particular role to being able to use the forum.

    The instructions from this page seem to be outdated:

    https://bbpress.org/documentation/integration-with-wordpress/

    “In the “WordPress Integration” section of the “Settings” area in your bbPress admin you will find a “User Role Map” where you can set which roles will be applied to users who register on your forums. Users who register on your WordPress blog will have the appropriate role applied to their account when they first login to bbPress.”

    I didn’t notice any “User Role Map”, but I could be easily mistaken.

    How are these things handled in the current version of bbpress?

    This seems like a pretty fundamental thing(?)

    Has the same issue. I created “my-languages” folder, but bbPress does not pick up mo and po from it. I also look to find the way to make it compatible with qTranslate.

    I am new to WordPress and bbPress. I have a WordPress 3.3 site with bbPress installed in its own directory. I went through all the steps for WordPress Integration and all the WordPress users show up as bbPress users so that is good.

    The problem is I thought that a logged in WordPress user would be logged in to the bbPress section when they go to the forums. But they are not. They have to log in again.

    Is this how it works or is there another step that I need to get full integration?

    Wouter:

    This one does show the most recent and complete one: https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/bbpress/plugin/nl/default

    When you filter on ‘Untranslated’ (https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/bbpress/plugin/nl/default?filters%5Bstatus%5D=untranslated&sort%5Bby%5D=priority&sort%5Bhow%5D=desc) it shows no untranslated strings.

    Please use the description on how to obtain the files from ‘dtwp’ in the initial post (https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/dutch-translation-missing-in-repository#post-90960)

    Is it safe to upgrade to WP 3.3 with BBPress 2.02 or should I wait for BBpress to be updated?

    I’ve been using the bbPress Custom Views plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbp-views/). I’ve been creating custom views, but I’m wondering how to create a custom view which is an AND or OR statement, so meets 2 different conditions. Here’s an example (though written incorrectly of course).

    bbp_register_view( 'rides-needed', __( 'Rides Needed' ), array( 'meta_key' => 'needed_offered', 'meta_value' => 'Need a Ride' AND/OR 'meta_key' => 'ride-destination', 'meta_value' => 'Timberline'), false );

    So, that is to say: display the topics WHERE:

    meta_key “needed_offered” = ‘Need a Ride’

    AND

    meta_key “ride-destination” = ‘Timberline’.

    From Gautam’s post (http://bbpep.com/2011/04/creating-custom-views-in-bbpress/) I know I can use these parameters (http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/WP_Query#Parameters), but I’m not sure how to translate WPQuery into the register views function. Thanks in advance!

    Topic: Login

    in forum Installation

    Where do I set the user login functions?

    In the instructions it says:

    ..In the “WordPress Integration” section of the “Settings” area in your bbPress admin you will find a “User Role Map” where you can set which roles will be applied to users who register on your forums. Users who register on your WordPress blog will have the appropriate role applied to their account when they first login to bbPress.<<

    where is the bbpress admin area? I can;t find it or any ““User Role Map.” Is it sin the same area as my blog’s dashboard? I see “forum” under settings but nothing b=about users. And up in the Forum area of sdashboard, just setting to create forums, topics, replies, ect.

    I’m missing something really basic here, I’m sure.

    https://bbpress.svn.wordpress.org/branches/plugin/

    where do i download the one you are saying!

    why is this have to be nightmare?

    why cant you guys keep it simple! I do not understand! you made the technology available but its useless!

    I did this with one of my sites simply by using a basic conditional to check if a user is logged in. If they are not logged in, they get redirected to my login page.

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/is_user_logged_in

    So, yes. It is possible :)

    Hello bbPress community!!!

    Its very nice and ease forum plugin and had used it a lot. But now I have a little problem with it: after installing “Another WordPress Classifieds Plugin 1.8.9.4” on main page of bbPress (/?post_type=forum) my forums are just disappeared and message “Oh bother! No forums were found here!” is shown. Also interesting that all forums and topics are working properly. How can I put my forums back on main page?

    Yeah, bbpress 2.0 is unbelievable, love this thing. So easily customized, looks awesome, feels awesome, and it’s ability to integrate with wordpress the way it does is bad ass.

    I’m not sure if this has to do with something in bbpress or wordpress itself, and it’s too early to go hunting. I know it must have something to do with a cascade somewhere.. only logical explanation. Except there’s only about.. 100 and more of them, quite possibly?

    I’m working on a website for my guild, and here’s the look of what I’m talking about right here: http://bloodoath2.net/forums

    Can anyone shed some light on this?

    Are there plans to support standalone bbPress installs that have WordPress integration with the bbPress Integration plugin. I can convert everything but my users due to them residing in the WordPress database. Any insight on how I can accomplish this? Thanks!

    Attempting to convert from 1.0.3 standalone to 2.0.2 plugin but having an issue due to current integration. My current bbPress install is integrated with WordPress. The built-in bbPress conversion tool and the plugin that was created will not handle a standalone install with WP integration since the users table resides in the WordPress database.

    Is there a way I can remove the integration and migrate my users to bbPress or other alternatives that you can suggest? Thanks!

    Havent tested the plugin, but most of the standalone bbpress plugins are not being actively updated any more.

    Is upgrading to bbpress 2.0 out of the question? Their is alot of facebook connect plugins that will work.

    The ‘simple facebook connect’ plugin over at the wordpress extend was updated last month… but, it wont work on the stand-alone version of bbpress.

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-facebook-connect/

    if using bbpress 2.0 is not an option, i’ll have a look at the plugin tonight and see if anything can be fixed.

    EDIT: The plugin not doing anything seems to be a facebook issue, alot of people seem to have the same issue.

    @ChrisClayton

    One of the worst things about a major update like this, is that we lose alot of great plugins – But, it’s better finding out now that their not actively updating it anymore than use it for a while and find out one day that everything’s broken :)

    what type of html did you want your users posting?

    Post toolbar allows alot of great functionality – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-post-toolbar/

    It seems to do the same thing as ‘easy video embed’ by allowing users to post videos using a ‘[video]‘ or ‘[youtube]’ shortcode.

    Also, because bbpress is now using WordPress post-types. you could also easily create other shortcodes to achieve what you want.

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Shortcode_API

    Instead of letting users do img src and giving them complete control over the output of the image, you can allow them to do ‘[image]cat.img[/image]’ to achieve the same affect in an easier way, as an example.

    I do honestly think that using shortcodes (search the wordpress extend, theirs alot of shortcode plugins) would be a better option as it allows you to control it’s use properly, as i’m sure you know, some humans enjoy causing trouble – and their are afew html codes that can causing a hellish experience for your users if it gets into the hands of the wrong user.

    It’s one of the reasons wordpress.com doesn’t allow some html codes :)

    Here is the site I’m working on: http://testtrack.tv/forums

    It’s WordPress site using a custom child theme of the Thematic wordpress theme/framework.

    As you can see, I have used the WordPress functions.php to filter away the sidebar to get a full width layout. Other than that, I have just the styles.css of my theme to restyle the forums slightly.

    However, as far as I can tell bbPress doesn’t have a built in login/register link anywhere on the forums – why on earth not? Did I miss something?

    Therefore, can anyone tell me how I add a simple login/register link within bbPress? As I’m not using the sidebar, I can’t add a widget there.

    Any help hugely appreciated.

    I was having the same issue and found some information here: https://codex.wordpress.org/AJAX_in_Plugins.

    I’m using BuddyPress, so I added the following to my functions.php file. If you are using regular WordPress I believe you’d need to substitute site_url(‘wp-load.php’) with admin_url(‘admin-ajax.php’):

    function ajaxurl_fix () {
    ?>
    <script> var ajaxurl = '<?php echo site_url('wp-load.php'); ?>';</script>
    <?php
    }
    add_action( 'get_header', 'ajaxurl_fix');

    Edit: I changed the action hook from init to get_header because I was experiencing problems logging in.

    Looking for some conversion advice. Here is my current setup.

    Server1: http://www.example.com – WordPress 3.3 only… no forums, no bbPress, no BuddyPress, etc..

    Server2: forums.example.com – phpBB 2.0.23. No integration with WordPress.

    Server3: db.example.com – The database server for both WordPress and phpBB.

    I’m looking to migrate from phpBB2 to bbPress. However I do *not* want my WordPress user table and my forums user table to commingle. After reading up on the conversion scripts available, the fact that bbPress 2 is a plugin and not standalone, etc I’m thinking that the following would be my best course of action.

    1) Do a straight conversion from phpBB2 to phpBB3.

    2) Install a new copy of WordPress on server2, get it up and running basic.

    3) Install the bbPress plugin for WordPress on server2.

    4) Run bbConverter to convert the (now) phpbb3 database to bbPress.

    Does this sound like the best course of action? Anything anyone would suggest different?

    I don’t know why it’s a challenge.

    They are two different pieces of software with two totally different purposes. bbPress isn’t “fully featured” forum software, just like WordPress isn’t a fully featured CMS. If you want bells and whistles, there are plugins for that.
