Ok, so this theme has an upmarket homepage.

Since this is a paid theme, with paid support, I’d suggest you go to their website for help, they should be familiar with bbPress and know how to get it to work with your theme.

This is the way this feature is currently designed. Hierarchical pagination is quite challenging to tackle; WordPress provides some help with this, but it wasn’t built into our first pass, and no work has gone into improving it since.

I have never seen any response from the devs/leaders of the bbpress team themselves, seems only volunteers

I have a few thousand replies that hopefully help prove otherwise, and sorry that your experience so far hasn’t lived up to that. Know that there’s a staff of about 12 of us that volunteer our time to both develop the software, write the documentation, and moderate the forums, and though we don’t hit every topic, we try to help out where we can.

I’d love to review what you have, and help get it into bbPress core properly.

Can you attach your progress to this trac ticket: https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/459

It’s a feature we’ve talked about in some fashion for the past… oh… 7 years or so. ๐Ÿ™‚

JJJ, totally agree, but until someone writes one, this is a quick and dirty method to achieve it !

(and for me to get rid of that horrible “keymaster” name !)

ps, if you want a count any combination of topics, replies or total posts under the role, then this plugin does that ! Gives a sort of rank.

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbp-topic-count/

I might expand it to give ranks one day !

Users have both a site role and a forum role, and those are the specific terms used within wordpress and bbPress, respectively. Thank you for your concern, but I believe I understand the difference. I’ve never seen any reference to the word rank, but it would undoubtedly alleviate some confusion if bbPress were to use that term in place of forum role.

I would like to be able to allow forum users to earn ranks and titles like achievements. Notable badges or icons everyone can see. I think it would add a lot of depth to the forum, but maybe bbPress is not the best tool for that.

‘So the pagination works fine on a standalone page, but if you embed it on your wordpress homepage, itโ€™d fail. ‘

Is this a statement or a question?

    What theme are you using?

and can you respond to previous questions

Where have you put the shortcode? on the homepage, on a page or on a post?

and where would you like the shortcode to go on the homepage, on a page or on a post?

I’ll then try to help you further.

offhand I’d say yes, more likely buddypress, try the support forums there and come back if needed.

You should give them the wordpress, bbpress and buddypress versions, any plugins you have and what theme you are using

So the pagination works fine on a standalone page, but if you embed it on your wordpress homepage, it’d fail.

It’s not that I have a page called “Topics,” the pagination simply uses the Topics Started slug. Even if I make a standalone page with bbp-topic-index, the pagination will still pick use Topics Started slug.

Because of this problem, I think a better solution would be to simply get rid of pagination for the shortcode, bbp-topic-index. Do you happen to know the temple file for that shortcode?

Looks like you’ve done the research – I have added your comments to the tracticket

and we’ll see if the experts reckon that’s the fix and put it in the next release

I have been on your site 6 times, and seen the error twice. It comes and goes, so is unlikely to be pure code related, as that stuff either works or doesn’t.

There seems to be a bit of buz about at the moment about a similar error, in particular for go-daddy customers

    eg

    http://www.cryoutcreations.eu/forums/t/fatal-error-cannot-call-overloaded-function-fowp-includesuser-php-on-line-217

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/fatal-error-1002?replies=14

although both refer to a different line, and maybe entirely unrelated, but posted just in case.

Let us know if this is you also?

Hi! I’ve just installed bbPress (so it should be the last version) and I have the last version of WordPress too. After installing bbPress I keep getting this error in like 90% of the times I refresh my page: Fatal error: Cannot call overloaded function for non-object in /home/xxxxxxxxx/public_html/wp-includes/class-wp.php on line 529
    My website is http://www.travelersuniverse.com/
This error does not occur when bbPress is not installed.
    Many thanks!

Hi, I’m using a wordpress theme, Brooklyn, that includes a contact section on all the pages including the bbpress forum I added. The contact section I designed uses shortcode the theme came with, but on the bbpress forum page the shortcode does not work. Instead the text of the shortcode is written out. I tried changing this to html instead of shortcode in the theme, but then it stack the icons into one column.

Does anyone have suggestions on how bbpress can recognize the shortcode for the theme.

    Thank you,
    Matt

@stagger-lee I just tested the code from https://codex.bbpress.org/enable-visual-editor/ and it worked fine.

You could also try the following as a plugin, it has options to enable the full editor, though it sounds like you don’t want this so don’t enable it.

Thanks for pointing this out. I’ve raised a trac ticket

so a developer should pick this up at some stage

Would appreciate feedback since it seems development has stalled. bbPress 2.6 is 5 weeks overdue according to trac:
    https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/milestone/2.6

There are only 40 tickets outstanding which is inline with previous releases so I don’t think the number of outstanding tickets is the cause (being so large in number that it would cause the delay).

And it has been more than 3 months since the last major release (2.5). The previous one before that (2.4) was released in a 3 month interval.

    bbPRess 2.6 ??????????????????
    bbPRess 2.5 November 25th 2013 (3 months)
    bbPress 2.4 September 2nd 2013 (5 months)
    bbPress 2.3 April 14th 2013 (5 months)

I’m not really quibbling over 3 months or 5 months or 5 weeks overdue, more than any of these it is the lack of activity and movement in clearing out tickets on trac that moves me to post this.

    Sorry, I don’t run buddypress.

You might do better on the buddypress support forum

    https://buddypress.org/support/

    Have you tried

    Installing Group and Sitewide Forums

and there is also talk of

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/private-bp-pages/

and what have you set visibility within bbp to be eg

If you’re just moving your bbpress site from one wordpress installation to another, then you don’t need to use migration (this is for forums of different types). Rather just use Dashboard>tools>export and select includes forums, topics and replies. and then Dashboard>tools>import on your new site.

I have never seen any response from the devs/leaders of the bbpress team themselves, seems only volunteers (and thank you very much to them) are answering this forum. I can understand that, because they already created this plugin in their spare time, are not paid or anything, so if they had to answer here it would be a lot of more work… that is what I think.

I think the threaded/nested replies included in bbpress are working the way it should, it is not a bug, it is just the way they wanted it to be it seems.

The only way to fix this problem is to find someone skilled enough to code /and/or hack the current code to change the way nested replies are working and add pagination to it.
I am trying to do it, but can’t figured it out yet… I am not a developper at all, so there is a lot of things I don’t understand… :/

Another solution would be to update the bbPress Threaded Replies plugin https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/bbpress-threaded-replies to make it work with the new bbpress version (and disable the integrated system in bbpress…) but I don’t know how to do that either…

Hope we’ll find a fix soon, if someone has an idea we’ll be really grateful ๐Ÿ™‚
    Thank you,

When a user tries to send a private message โ€œThat page canโ€™t be found.โ€ error comes up. How can I solve this problem?
Iโ€™m using wordpress 3.8.1 and buddypress 1.9.2; also private messages are enabled from buddypress settings.
    Thanks.
