Hi , well today i decided to try and install bbpess and integrate it into my wordpress site.

The quick instructions seemed simple, now on reflection a little to simple.

Basically I copied everything from the bb zip file into the same root folder my wp site lives in.

Then errors started to appear , so i thought well I’ll just delete everything and try and use some more in depth instructions.

So I’ve now deleted every file I copied into the root file from the bb zip and the config.php file i also put in their which the instructions asked me to do.

I thought once i had removed everything my site would just start working again as i thought it would be in the same state as this morning before I thought about bb.

But you guessed it, it now doesn’t work. :(

    My site is http://the3rdplace.co.uk/home/

Error I’m getting is 403 Forbidden

    Plus

    Forbidden

You don’t have permission to access /home/ on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I don’t really know enough to know where to start in correcting things.

    How i wish i had a back up :( (i don’t)

Question is what have I done wrong , but more importantly for now how do i go about correcting things ?

    Many thanks in advance :)

mvh: None yet. I’m going to start digging into code and rewrite rules in my spare time. http://make2for1.com/ is about as basic an install of bbpress as can be done. Implementing bbpress shouldn’t be this difficult.

Obviously mod_rewrite at 1and1 works fine since WordPress pretty permalinks work. I use them at http://realityme.net/ with no problems.

If I get a solution, I will definitely post it here.

I’d imagine not anytime soon. PHPBB3 is totally bloated… I can think of easier ways though…

OK 971 it is then. There was another post in the past few hours with a similar problem.

This is a common problem with the latest release, especially on GoDaddy (and Dreamhost too, I think.) Anyway, the problem you’re describing has been fixed in the trunk releases but not in the public release. The best thing to do would be to download a later revision like r971 or r980. See these posts from sambauers:

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/intergration-will-not-let-me-logon-using-my-wordpress-login?replies=30#post-12803

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/broken-profiles-for-users-with-spaces-in-the-names?replies=5#post-12769

Here is the page where you can download r971 (probably your best bet):

    https://trac.bbpress.org/browser/trunk?rev=971

I don’t package up the releases, I’ll see what mdawaffe thinks.

    [971] is the best candidate.

Sorry you’re giving up. It’s not normally this difficult.

I looked at your site and see that there is no wordpress in the URL, the pages are just:

    http://mysite.com/about/

    http://mysite.com/relationships/

I do see in the source of the page that the path to the theme is in a directory called wordpress…

I think we’re in big trouble if someone with and IQ of 145 can’t figure it out.

404 errors cannot have anything to do with your database config settings. If you cannot access install.php, something else is wrong with your config or possibly the .htaccess rewrite rules for WordPress. I’d be willing to bet it’s from rewrite rules. If you’re interested in taking a fresh look at it, can you post the config.php?

You must login, then click on New Ticket.

WordPress Support/Extend/Trac and bbPress Forums/Extend/Trac all can be logged in with the same username and password.

I think my problem lies within my database area……I was adding database name and usernames that were in my wordpress wp_config.php

Do I have to create my own database for bbpress through MySQL on my godaddy Linux hosting……..?

I’ve really been trying for about 5 hours straight to figure this out….

Install directions just seem so vague to me :( :(

Hi during the install of bbpress something must have gone wrong since I’m getting a “page not found” display when I attempt to bring up my “install.php”

I’ll go over every step in hopes to find the problem.

    When opening config.php I changed:

    BBDB_NAME

    BBDB_USER

    BBDB_PASSWORD

    BBDB_DOMAIN

    and

    BBDB_EMAIL

All to what those fields said in my wordpress wp_config.php file.

I installed my bbpress folder inside my wordpress folder.

My wordpress folder is directly under my site folder.

I do have multiple domains under the same server but that shouldn’t create any type of problem.

The location of my bbpress should be: http://www.mysite.com/wordpress/bbpress/

So I changed the value in my config.php file to the address above.

I also changed the values of >wp_home and >wp_siteurl

to reflect what it says under my wordpress/options/

Do you see anything that I’ve done wrong? Or am forgetting to do?

    Hi my website is thelegalhustle.com

I just tried installing bbpress, did everything as it said and when I go to the install page i get this message:

“Warning: mysql_get_server_info(): Can’t connect to local MySQL server through socket ‘/usr/local/mysql-5.0/data/mysql.sock’ (2) in /home/content/j/o/e/joeknockz/html/thelegalhustle/wordpress/bbpress/bb-includes/db.php on line 73

Warning: mysql_get_server_info(): A link to the server could not be established in /home/content/j/o/e/joeknockz/html/thelegalhustle/wordpress/bbpress/bb-includes/db.php on line 73

    Cannot select DB.”

I go through GoDaddy on a Linux server so it supports everything bbpress needs…I’m not sure where the error lies..

To eliminate WordPress as a possible problem, I have tried a fresh install of BBPress 0.8.3 in a new directory ~/make2for1_com/ for a throwaway domain I had laying around http://make2for1.com/ The database is a freshly created MySQL 4 db. PHP is using version 4.4.7 The .htaccess uses the code generated with http://make2for1.com//bb-admin/rewrite-rules.php and nothing else. The config is the sample file with all the appropriate blanks filled in and nothing more.

    $bb->mod_rewrite = ‘slugs’; is set.

Trying to get to a profiles produces a 404. Trying to read a discussion produces a 404. If I change $bb->mod_rewrite = false; it works.

This is the most recent .htaccess based upon /bb-admin/rewrite-rules.php:

    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>

    RewriteEngine On

    RewriteBase /

    RewriteRule ^forum/([^/]+)/page/([0-9]+)/?$ /forum.php?id=$1&page=$2 [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^forum/([^/]+)/?$ /forum.php?id=$1 [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^topic/([^/]+)/page/([0-9]+)/?$ /topic.php?id=$1&page=$2 [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^topic/([^/]+)/?$ /topic.php?id=$1 [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^tags/([^/]+)/page/([0-9]+)/?$ /tags.php?tag=$1&page=$2 [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^tags/([^/]+)/?$ /tags.php?tag=$1 [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^tags/?$ /tags.php [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^profile/([^/]+)/page/([0-9]+)/?$ /profile.php?id=$1&page=$2 [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^profile/([^/]+)/([^/]+)/?$ /profile.php?id=$1&tab=$2 [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^profile/([^/]+)/([^/]+)/page/([0-9]+)/?$ /profile.php?id=$1&tab=$2&page=$3 [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^profile/([^/]+)/?$ /profile.php?id=$1 [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^view/([^/]+)/page/([0-9]+)/?$ /view.php?view=$1&page=$2 [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^view/([^/]+)/?$ /view.php?view=$1 [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^rss/?$ /rss.php [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^rss/forum/([^/]+)/?$ /rss.php?forum=$1 [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^rss/topic/([^/]+)/?$ /rss.php?topic=$1 [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^rss/tags/([^/]+)/?$ /rss.php?tag=$1 [L,QSA]

    RewriteRule ^rss/profile/([^/]+)/?$ /rss.php?profile=$1 [L,QSA]

    </IfModule>

    I also tried:

    Options +MultiViews

    And here’s the config.php

    <?php

    // ** MySQL settings ** //

define(‘BBDB_NAME’, ‘CORRECT’); // The name of the database

define(‘BBDB_USER’, ‘CORRECT’); // Your MySQL username

define(‘BBDB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8’); // If you are *upgrading*, and your old config.php does

define(‘BBDB_COLLATE’, ”); // not have these two contstants in them, DO NOT define them

// If you are installing for the first time, leave them here

I have now installed wordpress2.3 at http://new.tnlotteryresults.com/ and bbpress 0.8.3 at http://talk.tnlotteryresults.com/ They are located in two physically separate directories using two different databases with no .htaccess in any parent directory. Matter of fact, all parent directories between root and each of the sites are empty. Pretty permalinks work on http://new.tnlotteryresults.com/ and fail on http://talk.tnlotteryresults.com/

I have edited the .htaccess with both methods shown in the installation instructions as well as making sure that I had ‘slugs’ in the config.php

Why does WordPress implement pretty permalinks so easily and bbpress is so resistant?

Using the currently available packaged release of bbPress has got to be frustrating a lot of people. Most people, I would guess, just want to download something and have it work, not deal with patches or trying to guess which revision is best suited (is it 980 or 971?) to their situation based on the WordPress version and whether or not they’re integrated.

At the very least, it should be a FAQ or sticky that explains how to do it, before the questions come…

Thanks for the correction Sam. Any thoughts on this post I made with regard to a new bbPress release to fix all these database issues people are having?

Revision [971] is the best option to integrate with WordPress 2.3.1 in my opinion.

Trunk will not be compatible with WordPress 2.3.1 again. Maybe not ever. It will be compatible with the upcoming WordPress 2.4 when that is released (or soon after).

    #60862

As I’ve written elsewhere, I’ve gotten everything up and running with trunk. As it might not be compatible with the release of WordPress I’m using (2.3.1), I’m wondering when a release of bbPress that fixes these problems and is compatible with WP 2.3.1 (or with the then latest available release of WP) will be available?

    @chrishajer

I’m not sure that’s the right advice. The latest development versions will definitely break integration as they are geared towards integration with the current WordPress trunk. There are lots of differences in password hashing and cookie storage.

Revision [971] might be OK to use for this specific problem, but I can’t guarantee it. And it won’t fix socket connection under MySQLi.

I have kept reading this forums for about a month. I saw many similar processes of solving the same problem.

Not long ago, I asked Sam Bauers a question about bbpulp.org on IRC:

<livibetter> can we (users) expand it? like FAQ, troubleshooting, theme modifications?
<livibetter> there are many questions asked again and again on forums. If we can systematically organize a collection of these, then may be easily to give a solution for their questions.
    <sambauers> Yeah, go ahead.
<sambauers> It is a wiki after all :)
<sambauers> Although it was focused on being a developers resource.
<livibetter> Thanks! I will post a post for this, and hope many other user will do the same thing.
<sambauers> If you wanted to look at the actual bbPress.org documentation
<sambauers> you are welcome to suggest additions and edits of the pages there
    <livibetter> I see
<sambauers> It makes more sense to compile FAQs there for instance
    <sambauers> And installation/integration notes
<sambauers> Which will soon need updating anyway
    <livibetter> means 0.8.4 coming soon?
<sambauers> Probably not until WordPress 2.4

If we can collect and organize these solutions well, we can be more easier to help. I did a small change on the main page, not really start to write something. I took a while to write those new entries, it’s harder than I can imagine. I can’t make them systematic. And that’s still not good, but collaboration can correct mistakes and build a great stuff.

    So, Let’s collaborate!
