I think there is more going on behind the scenes then we know. Sam leaving all of a sudden, no one continuing this project and no reaction from any wordpress developper (or Matt). Seems like they are letting this project die (and just gonna buy simplepress in the near future??).
It’s a shame…
For _ck_ any change we can acces the forum (but lock all topics and dont allow new ones to be created) so we can still benefit from the knowledge already posted there?
Greetz Nuul,
Damn, just as I am on the edge of releasing a cool new plugin
Thanks Steven, for posting this announcement.
Really bad that it looks like that bbpress has not some great future.
Actually I think about to convert my bbpress forum into a wordpress site using a theme that looks like a forum
Can’t be so difficult, the whole structure of bbpress looks too much like wordpress
(… another XX hours lost in the development of bbpress plugins)
I have integrated my test forum with wordpress. Both have seperate databases and are on the same host server but bbpress is in a sub-directory, Wp is in the root. WordPress has 4 members bbpress has 300, afterwords bbpress has only 4 members, why is that, it seems like instead of integration wordpress details have overwritten bbpress…any one able to help
You need to create a theme for bbPress that looks like your WordPress theme. That is how most people do integration.
I’ve also heard of people using a iframe to put bbPress inside a WordPress page, but I don’t recommend that.
Ok, I had no problem with the integration. Both WP and bbPress are working and the users are sharing fine.
Now, HOW DO I get either
1) WordPress to show the forums inside it?
or
2) bbPress to look like the template I have for wp? Template is customized Mandigo theme.
If you have an account at wordpress.org forums, you can log in with those details at trac.bbpress.org. I’m not sure how else to create an account that will work there.
Any news on this subject?
A fix for this, or even info on it so I can design themes to it would be very helpful.
I would say that BBPress isn’t fully compatible with WordPress; until at least the ‘navigation’ plugins that work on WP work on BBPress as well.

Hi Matt,
I am a twenty–something designer who profoundly enjoys creating efficient and elegant websites, with abilities focused in CSS/XHTML, WordPress/bbPress theming and Photoshop. I also have a great interest in writing. My portfolio.
I would like to be part of developing documentation regarding theme functions: something in which WordPress excels at and which further allows designers to work more fluently. As a theme designer I often had to explore bbPress core files looking for functions and their behavior in order to develop a site. This was done mostly through trial and error due to the lack of a function reference document. Then maybe even contributing with more quality themes or a restyle of bbPress while also promoting the development of things like P2 in WordPress to show the range of possibilities of bbPress. As a reference, you might register in this website I created to check how some aspects of bbPress were enhanced through theming (encouraging posting by displaying it more prominently though non obtrusive) for a particular project.
its no problem now I have created this profile which is fine, but thanks for responding
I never knew you COULD log in here with your wordpress.org login. I just tested it and it does work, which is cool. As for the password, I would try to change it wherever you registered. If you registered at wordpress.org, I would change it there and see if you can log in here.
Other than that, someone with more experience than me will have to come up with some additional ideas.
And it refuses to allow me to reset my password why is that?
I’m very new to this, I installed WordPress a few days ago and now I’d like to install bbPress. The installation of WordPress went great, but when I try to install bbPress, I get the “There was a problem connecting to the database you specified.”-error. So there must be something wrong with the data I filled in, what did I do wrong?
Database name: b4_4599254_forum
Database user: b4_4599254
Database host: http://ftp.byethost4.com
Thanks.
@chrishajer – I’m not sure – I use 1&1 for hosting but I can poke around to see if some logs are available and report back…
@buddha trance – yes, after the <?php but I appreciate the troubleshooting 101
FWIW, I also tried several other things I found in the docs for integrating, such as require_once with the path to wp-blog-header.php but as mentioned everything I try to load WP first so I can access it’s functions causes the 500 error.
I haven’t given up yet, though! I’ll keep trying a few things and report back this weekend….
Just redid a fresh install of bbPress with integration and everything worked until the error on the last step.
Now I have two problems:
Users can’t post in the forums. Is this because the restore of old posts from an SQL file failed?
Visitors can’t see the pages on the wordpress page without logging in.
Since the database is now shared, how can I clean up the bad bbPress restore?
When you say you added the line to the top, you mean after the opening tag
<?php
… just in case…
There is a thread discussing export capabilities for bbPress, where the project “bbxf.org” is mentioned by chrishajer. Maybe you can ask him there, if the alpha version of the plugin they have on Google Code can be used for your purposes. That is, export bbPress as an XML file and import it into WordPress.
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/importexport-work
The alpha version can be also found on the site of one of the developers, Dan Larkin.

You could give it a try with a fresh “test” install of WP, and a full bbPress database backup…
This is a VERY minor issue, but I think it’s worth pointing out.
I’m working on integrating a BBPress installation into a WordPress site. As I work with the client, I like to name the folders containing the current theme/template with the version number, to make it easy to backtrack to older designs.
So for example, theme version 0.1 is in a folder named client_theme_v0.1, version 0.2 is in a folder named client_theme_v0.2, and so on.
This works fine in WordPress, but NOT in BBPress. If I include a period in the BBPress template folder name, it breaks the template—BBPress doesn’t find the style.css file. So instead of using periods in the version number, I have to use (shock! horror!) underscores. As in, client_theme_v0_1. *Shudder.*
It would be nice, in a very minor way, if I could use periods in BBPress template folder names.
Thank you Chris, but the only folder title that is capitalized is my Blog link. The rest is in lowercase letters.
The folder is in my server. My domain name is http://www.latestartermusician.com. The “Blog” part is wordpress which I would like to integrate with bbpress. I put the bbpress under the directory forum1. But it still brings up the page not found error http://www.latestartermusician.com/forum1/bb-admin/install.php
Wow, I really hope I can get it to work. Bbpress seems like the forum I’ve been looking for.
Thank you for all of your help so far.
Ohhh, for the first post, toddmccalla, you were installing bbPress as a WordPress plugin, that was the problem. bbPress is not a WordPress plugin.
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/header-invalid#post-60960
bbPress is not a plugin for WordPress. It should not be in your wp-content/plugins folder. It will be installed right along side WordPress, not inside WordPress as a plugin.
Right now you have WordPress installed in a folder called “Blog”. You need to put bbPress in a folder called “Forum” or whatever public URL you want your forum to be known as, and start the installation there.
http://latestartermusician.com/Forum/ is you put it into a folder called “Forum” at the same level as Blog in the directory tree.
It’s not a plugin for WordPress, that’s why you received that error.
Hi all,
I’m used to using conditionals within PHP if/else arguments such as is_page_template, is_page, is_front_page, and so on within WordPress. However, I’d like to apply some within my bbpress theme (to change the title of seperate sections of the forums) and I’d love to know which conditionals are appropriate/different within bbpress.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Many thanks,
Xander
I have the same problem. My website is completely new with no design yet. http://www.latestartermusician.com/Blog/
I am using wordpress 2.8.4 and I downloaded the zip file bbpress1.0.2.zip.
Thank you,
I downloaded the plugin for WordPress 2.8.4, and tried activating it. However, when I activated it, I was taken to a page that said, “This plugin does not have a valid header.” What does that mean? I am so excited about using bbpress, but I can’t.
