    Using WordPress 4.0, bbPress 2.5.4, buddypress 2.0.2.

Does someone know why the forum shows there are topics and replies but also shows there are no topics? Please see image:

I have read a few of the previous posts and saw lots of interesting topics come by.

First I have to make a statement and a thank you.

Statement: BBPress is exactly what I need in a forum, yes I think it is forum software and forum software only.

Also it is a wordpress plugin, not a standalone CMS so I can not expect it to have all functions I wish for, but then there are plugins for most of them.

As a non-professional developer I had my share of problems after the first install, and coming from phpBB (only for 5 months there) I missed a lot of funtions mentioned in earlier posts that come standard in stand-alone forum CMS like IPBoard and VBulletin.

Those two (IPB VBull) have been my inspiration and I wanted a forum with similar functions, after trying phpBB for a few months, which I really enjoyed as a learning curve, I decided to give wordpress/bbpress/buddypress a try.

I have now been experimenting and learning the wordpress syntax for about 1 year, and have only one thing to say:

BBPress is the better forum software for me.

I can now make a perfect profile page.
    BBFacelook

I can have forums with the right hierarchy.
    BBFacelook

I can have all the extras that make other forum CMS cool thanks to some lightweight plugins, even attachments/images in posts can be made to look better then many other forums I visit.

Of course all is not perfect, I am not alone in hoping to see better image management, private albums, better TinyMCE editor, moderator functions/pages and the all important “like” function, but all in all BBP is just as functional as many high profile forums.

being a wordpress plugin makes BBPress modular, user friendly enough and highly functional not to forget absolutely FREE, besides a few hundered hours of brain pain.

Anyway, back to my theme (BBFacelook) development.

@robin-w I beg to differ a little, the behaviour seems to suggest it is something else going on.

It is only child forums that seem to be having this issue.
If a forum is is set up as a child of a forum (set as type category) the result is a 404 Error.
if that link is broken (the forum has been set to have no parent) then the forum loads.

The permalink doesn’t change ?forum=general query string is the same for both. This is with all plugins disabled and on different themes.

There must be something that works differently code wise between the two.
    Seems very odd.

It has also worked quite happily for the last year on default permalinks with the current plugin setup quite happily.
Something has changed the method in the way that it works, either through a bbpress release or WordPress 4.0 release

I also updated to WordPress 4.0. I’m not too sure if this has anything to do with it. I also disabled all plugins, but nothing changed it.

Seems that after the WordPress 4.0 update I can no longer create forum polls. All I get is
Polls only at Topic level please.

    Anyone experience this too?

    Hi Guys,
I just updated my wordpress to version 4.0 and all my bbpress forums are
returning a 404 page not found error.
I have tried everything I have found on here and nothing works.

All the topics are there in the dashboard, but when I want to view them — Not Found
Apologies, but the page you requested could not be found. Perhaps searching will help..

I disabled all my plugins and reactivated them one by one.
I tried changing my permalinks to all the settings and saving them/ switching back etc and nothing happened.

    http://straight-talking-golf.com/members/stg/

Trying to repair the forums and I get this:
You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page
P.S; I have full control over the server.

This has happened to me too. Populating the forums and update to wp 4.0 and bang, no forums to show.
Deactivated every single plug-in. Re-activated them one by one. No luck.

Very annoying getting an error 404 page not found on every single one. I even tried making a new forum and no luck either.

Everything is there in the dashboard, but work on the site has halted and causing serious problems.

I also tried all the old wordpress themes and nothing has changed.
Very annoyed with this. 7 hours of time totally wasted for a forum that was working perfectly.

I was installing bbPress on my website, using the Tools > Forums > Import forums. It was going okay until it reach converting replies. My forum have 52 600 messages in 18 000 subjects from 1200 users.
    – I visited the url mysite.com/forums and I see it well, but at first sights it seems there is no replies at all in every message.
    – Here is what I see in the yellow box.

Can you tell me what to do from here ? (as nothing keep going, but the little wheels keeps tuning)

And I moved your topic to a separate topic and wrapped some code backticks 😉

What happens if you create a new third user? Does the same weirdness occur?

Looking at the backwpup_admin is this from a plugin creating a WordPress custom role? Maybe https://wordpress.org/plugins/backwpup/?

If that is the case what happens when you disable this plugin and try updating the roles?

Again with that plugin disabled what happens when you create another new user?

I still see plugins enabled, the issue cannot be reproduced with only WordPress 4.0 and bbPress 2.5.4, thus in every instance thus far this issue has occurred it has been a plugin conflict, we need to find this conflict to work out where to from here.

It should take only a few minutes to test this as I outlined in my original reply above.

This could be an issue with your rewrite rules. To fix this try resetting your permalinks. In your WordPress Administration Screens navigate to Settings > Permalinks, select a different permalink structure and save. Then select your preferred permalink structure and save again.

    So full issue,
If I go to the top level (category) forum

    Home

this work and show the forums below it however if you try and access the forums

    Home

for example you get a 404 error
    Trying to access individual topic

    Home

    for example works.

Creating a New Forum by itself with no parent also works.
However when I add a parent to it, it gives me a 404 Error when I try to view it.

I have this forum set to type category

    Home

    this currently has two children
both of which show a 404 Error when you try to open them (even when you ‘view’ from the edit screen.
However when I go into and edit these forums to have no parent, then click view. I can see them

This has happened since upgrading to WordPress 4.0
This behavior persists even with all other plugins disabled on the site

This narrows it down to something happening with the parenting of forums
I don’t really code in PHP so cant really give much more insight.

Any help would be appreciated, if any more info is required please ask

    Thx

    John

Hi, sorry for kicking this topic, but I’m having a problem probably related to this.
I have a site with 2 admins/keymasters. As soon as I activate bbPress the other admin loses his role. Apon checking the database I find for him the wp_capabilities change from:

    a:1:{s:13:"administrator";b:1;s:14:"backwpup_admin";b:1;s:13:"bbp_keymaster";b:1;}

    to:

    a:1:{s:15:"bbp_participant";b:1;}

When adjusting his rights in All Users -Edit the only roles available are: Subscriber, Contributor, Author and Editor.

And when I disable bbPress and go into All Users -Edit, I can have the full list of roles (Keymaster, Participant, Blocked, Spectator, ..). These are forum roles, not general WordPress roles. Even in the database I find the 2nd admin (actually the 1st admin btw) now has the wp_capabilities a:1:{s:13:"bbp_keymaster";b:1;}, which is clearly bbp related.

I’m running WordPress 4.0 with main plugins Theatre (http://wordpress.org/plugins/theatre/), WordPress SEO (by Yoast), Contact Form 7 and some minor plugins for adjusting posts, background and the like (nothing role related).

I am experiencing the same problem. I have updated to WordPress 4.0 two days ago
Any of my old links to the forums just result in a 404 Error
I also get a 404 if I access through the /forum route on my web address

Our website is http://www.sailscorpion.co.uk some of our users have raised it with us.

Any help on this would be appreciated
I don’t have any of the plugins shown above

    Thanks

I’ve got the same problem as @stargatecarterpack

Whenever I go to a topic, it just shows the first reply, and blank if no replies.

None of my plugins match the OP list. I’ve gone back to 3.9.2 for now. I’ll try the one-by-one approach on plugins at the weekend, and report back if I find a fix.

Using WordPress 3.9.2, bbPress 2.5.4 and BuddyPress 2.0.2. Site is password protected I’m afraid. It is using a custom theme, based on Responsive.

is_bbpress() is returning false on any bbpress pages that fall under a BuddyPress group. If this seems to be custom theme related are there any tips for debugging?

I found the bug in plugin with some validates. Never liked if ($var) constructions. if ($var !== false && $var !== '') better to understand 🙂

Just replace content of plugin.php in plugin folder:
    https://github.com/korobochkin/bbPress-permalinks-with-id/blob/master/plugin/plugin.php

Tested on brand new WordPress install only with bbPress and my plugin with default theme – works as… haha.

Have the exact same issue, and just happened recently.

I’m not using WooCommerce but it’s a pain in the ass.

I recently updated to WordPress 4.0 and think that may have something to do with it. But mine’s active in a membership site and have many angry members so will need it fixed asap!

Haven’t installed any plugins recently which could conflict so I’m not sure…

Hi guys, newby here. Initially I unpublished my Forum & when I reinstated it the my topics are there but when I click on them I get Error 404 – Page not found!

The page you trying to reach does not exist, or has been moved. Please use the menus or the search box to find what you are looking for.

Couldn’t figure it out so I re installed bbPress & I’m back to the same issue! My website is http://www.discounthomebrewsupplies.com.au

Some help here would be great, I’m a newby at the whole wordpress/woocommerce thing so bare that in mind pls! Thanks

Positive and positive. Now I’ve just made a clean install in English and set permalinks to postname. All works just fine, but right after activating the plugin all new nicely regenerated urls such as domain.com/forums/forum/11 or domain.com/forums/topic/13/ lead to 404. Unchecking forums/ prefix and flushing permalink settings doesn’t help. My wordpress installation directory is domain root, bbPress installed via plugin.

Maybe I can help you by providing more technical details from somewhere?
