    Hello guys,

I’m new to wordpress and bbpress and started to learning it today. I recently installed wp which succeeded and added bbpress through the plugin tab on the admin page. I installed WP on my root page so how do i access my forums via typing in the linkbar in any browser?

I’ve browsed for a solution before i decided to make a topic and I’m very lost. Also the bbpress forums http://bbpress.org/forums/, how would I organize mine with the forum category on the left side and latest topics in the middle?

    Thanks very much in advance.

i have yet to test this, but it appears that the answer to my question above is ‘yes’…. with the plugin bbPress Topics for Posts by David Dean:

I’ve seen numerous threads on this very subject for the last few years and JJJ has been posting the same response every time. It more or less says “This is the way it is. If you don’t like it, come up with your own solution.”

I understand his reasoning for saying that’s just the way it is, but IMO, I wouldn’t have released this product with the URLs in this format. How can a topic be considered part of a forum, yet the URL not represent that?

This is the logical structure. (assuming everything exists in a forums subdirectory):

    Viewing a Single Forum:

    domain.com/forums/forum-name/

    Viewing a Thread (or topic):

    domain.com/forums/forum-name/thread-name

With comments being this or something similar:

    domain.com/forums/forum-name/thread-name#comment-35

    .

This is what we actually get.

    Viewing a Single Forum:

    domain.com/forums/forum/forum-name

Then click on a Single Thread:

    domain.com/forums/topic/thread-name

You lose all acknowledgement that you were in a particular forum. It’s like the threads are just floating about aimlessly…not attached to anything in particular.

If BBPress operated like WordPress, Let’s say that “Forums” are “Categories” and “Topics” are “Posts”. Well, with WordPress, you can set your permalinks to read:

    domain.com/category-name/post-name/

So why not be able to do that with BBPress? The problem is that in order to get all of the various settings applied to both Forums and Topics, they have both been created as separate Custom Post Types. The individual Posts in Topics simply have a custom field that ties them to a specific Forum.

Now, I haven’t tested this at all, but in theory it may be possible to tap into some WordPress action and filter hooks and create our own rewrite rules to fix what I see as the biggest flaw with BBPress. I found a thread on another site recently where the user used a custom field value to generate the permalink for a custom post type. That seems to me would be exactly what we need to do here. If I can get some free time, I’ll see if I can get it working and maybe build a plugin to handle it.

Hi I am using wp 3.4.1 and using bbpress plugin for the forum. However I am trying to install a new theme but dunno how to start. I have already downloaded a new theme [derleth-bright] , just need a little bit of nudge on my head how to implement this.

And also as I am using the wordpress plugin for the bbpress forum , can someone tell me how to make it full-width page. Its by default coming as a post which includes also the author name, creation time etc. which I also dont want.

    Can someone help me?

Using WordPress 3.4.1, bbPress 2.1.2, TwentyEleven 1.4 (unmodified theme).

Widgets are correctly placed on non-bbPress forum pages (See screenshot)

But on any bbPress forum page, the widgets appear below the forum content (See screenshot)

What’s wrong? How can I fix this?

    WordPress version: 3.4.1
    bbPress version: 2.1.2

I am looking for a way to allow users to upload profile pictures on their bbPress profiles. Currently, even as admin, I see no option to upload an image to display my profile. I thought that uploading a user profile image would be a feature that is built in to bbPress, or that a standard bbPress plugin could be found to enable this functionality, but have not been able to find such a plugin.

Any guidance would be MUCH appreciated, and I thank you, the amazing bbPress community, in advance for your care and direction.

In addition to that, I have found another bug.

When you insert a new message, it tries to calculate its position by using bbp_get_topic_reply_count

The problem is that wordpress passes it through bbp_number_format filter and tries to convert it back to the integer.

In my case if a topic has 3000 replies, number format will be 3,000 and returned integer will become 3.

I found this Dashboard Forum Activity, looks great! It comes with poster’s name and avatar!

However, it is limited to dashboard only!!!

Can someone please tell me how can I make use of the function and put it at my sidebar?

    Thank you.

I’m having the same problem as outlined here:

bbPress 2.1 -Can't do anything except for posting a topic & reply in group forum

Editing group form posts in Buddypress 1.6.1 works well, same with editing sitewide forums in bbPress 2.1. But once you combine them, you can’t edit group forum posts.

    It’s a known issues now:
    https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/1906

Hope they’re able to come up with a solution very soon

    Hi John

I don;t understand? I have a wordpress site, using bbpress as a Forum (I don;t really get bbpress, is it just a forum?). I would rather not reinstall a whole new forum. I have a self hosted version of wordpress, creating a new site with buddy press is not an option for me (it’s a social network building block right?)

Surely there is Pm functionality for this forum?> It’s a forum!

Firstly if you only see bbPress as a WordPress integrated forum software package in the traditional sense of what other forum software looks like then please step outside of that box, it is far more flexible and powerful than just that.

Take a look at how PostDesk have uniquely integrated forums into their site and check out in particular the ‘featured sites’ at https://bbpress.org/about/examples/ showing what can be accomplished with theming in bbPress.

That all said, I also see merit in having the option of a traditional forums hierarchical category sub-category forum layout for those who do want that feature/layout option available.

I have a few ideas already and would love to hear your ideas and feedback.

    Cheers,

    Stephen aka @netweb

Not sure what the answer to your question is, but for what it’s worth the Simple Local Avatars plugin works flawlessly with bbpress.

    Hello!

I am using the HTML5 Reset Blank Theme. I am creating a WordPress Theme from scratch….

    I have two issues:
1). Can I use bbPress with an HTML5 theme?

2). After I active it, I really get lost from that point. Can anyone please tell me what the next step is? Because I am lost. When I do go to All Pages, I see at the bottum the name of the forum I had created. But do I do with it? I am lost.

Sorry for the double post. I don’t see the edit button. I guess its disabled after a certain amount of time? any ways essentially I want to theme BBPress. The problem is that the theme needs to be apart of the WordPress theme (I created) so that if you install the theme, and you have bbpress installed it will be able to use that theme instead of default which I think is a theme compatible … theme

think of it this way: WordPress comes with two themes when you install it. 2010 and 2011. you can go out and get new ones or modify this one. what if you want your own. You write it from the ground up.

This is what I wan’t to do with bbpress – a “theme” so to speak. So that when you install bppress you can “use as default” or “click to enable this look” (which in my case would be on by default) how would I achieve this? pure css?

what if I wanted to create a new “display forums” template or a new “login” template? is there documentation on “themeing bbpress?” and making that theme the default? Hope that makes better sense….

So um…. What’s up with this?

Im using the bbpress widget in wordpress, and when certain pages do not have a listing on them, “phantom page links” appear from out of nowhere. I have the widget placed in the center section of the footer.

Does anyone know what’s going on?

    Sure thing.

The boxes are CSS and our own design but you can use the Vote It Up plugin for votes, although it hasn’t been updated in ages.

You’ll need to customise and theme it. BTW, we are using BBPress 2.0.2 and not the latest but it should work.

    Good Luck…

    Hi

I just installed bbpress on our wordpress site, but the users cannot edit their own topics (no edit menu in the bar)
I checked then the permissions with the plugin “User Role Editor” but I saw nothing weird in it.
We tried to install another WordPress/bbpress on another machine: same issue !

    Thanks for your help !!

Hey bbpress community, I’m excited to say I launched my new website yesterday, its running the 2.1.2 plugin version of WordPress, but I’ve modified its templates pretty heavily, and added some custom functions. You can check it out at: http://tamrielfoundry.com Some cool features of my bbpress are:

    • Dropdown forum index in navigation menu
    • User profile integration with custom profile pages
    • Forum quotes
    • User signatures for forum posts and comments

I’ve got plans for a bunch more features I’d like to build in, but I’m just happy the site is live for now. Thanks for all the hard work developing this awesome forum plugin. Let me know what you think of the site!

“The WordPress page will always win”? The bbPress settings’ “Forum base” always overrides a page in WordPress by the same slug for me. This has ALWAYS been a problem for me, on any WordPress installation. I use the Origin theme currently, if that helps any…

    #116936

I still don’t understand. Just make them the same slug? The WordPress page will always win.
