Are all the users being imported correctly?

This has been the only real issue I have seen mentioned when using WXR… Once you get over ~100 users things just start getting nasty as there is no pagination for the users section.

There are a few options to also help debug the issue

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-importer/other_notes/

Set `define( ‘IMPORT_DEBUG’, false );` to true as noted here.

I haven’t looked at the specifics of what is different in the ‘development version’ over 0.6 but from a quick look there has been some updates on WXR error checking.

To upgrade to the newest version of BBPRESS, I added a fresh install of WordPress and included the BBPRESS plugin. I followed all the instructions to import my old bbPress1 (1.1) posts (Tools > Forums > Import Forums), but I get the following error:

    `
WordPress database error: [Table ‘database_name.forumusers’ doesn’t exist]
    SELECT convert(users.ID USING “utf8”) AS ID,convert(users.user_pass USING “utf8”) AS user_pass,convert(users.user_login USING “utf8”) AS user_login,convert(users.user_nicename USING “utf8”) AS user_nicename,convert(users.user_email USING “utf8”) AS user_email,convert(users.user_url USING “utf8”) AS user_url,convert(users.user_registered USING “utf8”) AS user_registered,convert(users.user_status USING “utf8”) AS user_status,convert(users.display_name USING “utf8”) AS display_name FROM forumusers AS users LIMIT 0, 100
    `

I know I have the correct database information (name, user, pass, etc.), but I can’t get it to work. Please help! Thanks in advance..

What versions of WordPress & bbPress are you using?

    Hi,

Are there some kind of best practices re moving content between two installations of WordPress/bbPress with matching versions?

Let’s say I need to move users and their bbPress posts from one host to another. Naturally, I’d go for WXR. Except it doesn’t work exactly as expected.

After importing all users, forums, topics and replies I get a forum where all counts are correct, but content isn’t displayed (“This forum is empty.”, “Oh bother! No topics were found here!”).

OK, I’ve seen that before with other engines where I need to recreate indices. So I go to forum repair, but as soon I click “Recalculate last activity in each topic and forum”, all counts go to zero, and “Freshness” for each forum becomes “No Topics”. No matter what repairs I run next, all counts are at zero.

In the admin console the list of topics is blank indeed, but all replies are listed and not assigned to any topic.

Obviously, I’m not the first person to try doing this. How did you solve that?

Or maybe there’s a better way to merge databases?

Both hosts have WordPress 3.5.1 and bbPress 2.2.4. Recipient host has WordPress Importer 0.6.

    Thanks in advance.

As @xmasons mentioned above you could use the plugin
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-unread-posts/
    for that purpose.
YOu can set the background image for the unread posts and put there an icon.
    Do you have CSS knowledge?

Perhaps this is what you require – bbPress Unread Posts

After setting up Buddypress and BBpress I tried creating a new user through the BBpress registration form.

The username I created was “Carl LaFong”.

I got the activation email and successfully activated the account. However, I was unable to log on.

It turns out that “Carl LaFong” got converted to “Carllafong”.  There would be no chance of anyone guessing that. Their registration would fail and they’d have no idea why.

So if spaces aren’t allowed they should be rejected during the registration process, shouldn’t they?

Also, are names case sensitive?  Not sure what to make of the mixed upper/lower case result.

Using WordPress 3.5.1, BBpress 2.2.4. Link is: http://www.wwe-club.com

    Hi there,
can’t figure out the features it comes with.

-Can it support two different languages at the same time? (Amharic and English)
-Can an administrator or moderator,as the case may be, manage the forum to deal with claims to abuse or reports of vulgar/offensive languages and block such members from the forum

and how easy is it to integrate it with my wordpress website?

    Thanks,
    D.

Is it possible to not have the “forums base” archive slug show up as a breadcrumb when browsing around in my forums and topics?

I want it to just say “forum” (without the “s”), but then it conflicts with my “forum slug” which is “forum”.

Hope I’m able to describhe my problem properly, any help is much appreciated.

    I have WordPress 3.5.1 and bbPress 2.2.4

sorry i dont understand, i did a full wordpress installation and installed bbpress plugin. Hostgator installed wordpress on my sever for me.

is that not a full wordpress setup?

Sounds like your main theme (not a bbpress theme) doesn’t have all the files it needs, I would recommend getting a full working installation of wordpress first, check everything is ok then do the bbPress stuff.

My apologies, but I went and looked at your site and I did not see a WordPress/bbPress all I saw was an ‘Ad Farm’ which I now presume was put there by your webhost Host Gator.

It appears they have changed that now to just a ‘Landing Page’ that is far less spammy.

Let me know once your site is back up and I will restore the links in your other posts.

The website has a heading 1 for the page title and breadcrumbs. Both the page heading and the breadcrumbs think that any page within the bbpress forums is within the “blog” section. So the heading 1 says “blog” and the breadcrumbs say home > blog > topic name

Note: the breadcrumbs that come with bbpress work fine.

The site is located here: http://healthmeditating.com/forums/topic/how-do-i-meditate/
    Running WordPress 3.5.1.
    Running bbpress 2.2.4
Using theme Sterling from themeforest -http://themeforest.net/item/sterling-responsive-wordpress-theme/2320578

One other problem that may be related is that wordpress also triggers the Blog menu item link as the current_menu_item (thus highlighting it in the main menu). I can override this with css so I am not overly worried about it but thought it worth mentioning. I notice that this problem is actually a reported bug in bbpress and is being worked on.

Thanks in advance to anyone who as any ideas,

    Bodhi McGee

OK, I succeeded in doing the first thing.

I checked in the database and found the custom post types in the wp_posts table:
    `
    if (!is_post_type(‘forum’) || !is_post_type(‘post’) || !is_post_type(‘topic’) || !is_post_type(‘reply’)){
    if (function_exists(‘my_breadcrumb’)) my_breadcrumb();
    }
    `

The problem now is that I have to do it for all the children pages of these custom post types (forum, post, topic and reply), but I can’t find how to do it. I will try something with the get_page_children() function but I am not sure that it will work with custom posts…

    The instructions are here: https://codex.bbpress.org/bbpress-in-your-language/

That said I cannot see any Greek (el) translations for bbPress in GlotPress for the 2.2 or 2.3(dev) branches of bbPress https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/bbpress

I suggest you try asking some of the Greek WordPress communities listed here:
    https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_in_Your_Language#Greek_.28el.29

In particular on their forum http://wpmania.gr/forum/
(You could also ask when they are planning on switching to bbPress ;))

bbPress is a wordpress plugin, for me personally I love it, everything I can do in wordpress I can then bring into my forum. If you have ever developed any wordpress plugins then bbPress will be a good choice for developing something custom inside a forum.

Some small things aren’t quite there yet as default, but there is usually a way to solve it using plugins or community suggestions. I would say the biggest selling point for me using bbPress is the way you can customise it using the power of wordpress, you don’t get that with many if any other forum solutions.

@golfer300 You will need to put the contents of the zip file inside your theme folder, once you have done this you should see a bbpress-functions.php inside your main theme directory. For this theme to fully work you will need to have the wordpress classes attached to the body tag.

    @akgt
I haven’t tested it using buddyPress, let me know if you use it.

Good idea re: resyncing the database. I don’t think this DB was maintained properly and upgrading from phpbb 2.x to 3.0.11 may have introduced some errors.

Does phpBB now have your “50K+” posts after the repair or still ~27K?

Unfortunately, the outcomes were all the same. the import seemed to hang, although it did get further this time (converting forums 100 – 199)

You only had ~10-15 phpBB forums when I looked earlier and it now looks like you have removed phpBB from your site so I can no longer confirm this.

The last message you should have seen during the import ‘forums’ step should have been `(converting forums 0 – 99)` before it moved onto the next step `Calculating forum hierarchy (0 – 99)`.

I used the stop/start suggestion, let it run for an hour, and it seemed that everything was imported.

Why do you presume that? Did you see your 50K+ posts somewhere?

Then when you go to view a forum or category or topic, and most of it is missing. Most recent posts were from 2004.

I stated in my previous post any counts you see before running the repair tools will be inaccurate.

This was before running any repairs. Running the repair functions depleted the counts further.

I’ll reiterate this again, any counts you see before running the repair tools after the import is finished are inaccurate and should not be relied upon.

The repair tools nor any part of bbPress will delete content from your WordPress database unless you explicitly do this via ‘forum reset’ or ‘purge previous import’.

I’m not sure I can troubleshoot this in time for my client’s deadline but if further suggestions or upgrades come up, I’m game for trying them out in the future.

At this stage yours is the ONLY phpBB forum that has NOT been successfully imported, there are virtually no future upgrades planned for the phpBB importer because they are not needed as it has thus far worked with every single phpBB import that I have been asked to test or help out with.

The output of the converter should be similar to this (They should match your phpBB stats to the nearest 100)
Did the import end up looking like this below? If not which step did it stop at?
    `
    Repair any missing information: Continue
    Conversion Complete
    Converting replies (2000 – 2099)

    Converting replies (100 – 199)
    Converting replies (0 – 99)
    Converting topics (1200 – 1299)

    Converting topics (200 – 299)
    Converting topics (100 – 199)
    Converting topics (0 – 99)
    Calculating forum hierarchy (0 – 99)
    Converting forums (0 – 99)
    No data to clean
    Starting Conversion
    `

As I stated in the comments of the review you posted for the bbPress plugin at WordPress.org I am more than happy to take a look and help you get it imported.

If there is a bug with the importer and why your phpBB is not playing nice like all the other phpBB forum imports I can write a patch to fix it but I will need accurate detailed information from you to do this.

    Cheers,

    Stephen

I got the edit/spam/delete buttons to show up again. It was a permission error.

Now, trying to restore the trashed bbpress topic and I get this:

    Wordpress Failure Notice

Are you sure you want to do this?

    Please try again.

    Any ideas?
