Sorry, actually, I can’t be sure that the stuff I see on Dykarna’s site is coming from a WP Swedish translation file…it could just be the text entered. I take back my previous comment.

Dykarna’s WP site seems to be in Swedish, so I’m guessing WP core is able to find the translations…

Do you also have the WordPress translation files where they belong? If WordPress core cannot find its translations, it will revert back to English. If that’s the problem, it’s possible you’ve had bbPress’s in the correct locations already, and WordPress was nooping it.

At http://translate.wordpress.org/projects/bbpress/plugin there are plenty of items listed as “Waiting”

e.g. Polish, Romanian, French and Czech have 0% translation completed, but almost 100% strings in “waiting”.

So how do we move strings from “waiting” to “translated”?

Maybe try changing the language in your config file instead of using the switcher. That way you can confirm whether the issue is with the plugin or with translation.

Hi there,

i just installed the newest version of the bbpress plugin and I want to have the spanish translation activated. I already uploaded the .mo and .po files but now I don’t find the bb-config.php file anywhere to change the language to es_ES.

Where can I activate the spanish version then?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi, there!

Can anyone help??? Languages!!!

So, I have stand alone 1.0 bbPRESS and would like to add Slovenian language to it. I’ve created

/public_html/bb-content/languages/bbpress/bbpress-sl_SL.mo

and copy translation in it and nothing. I’ve also downloaded and instaled bbPress Language Switcher, and doens’t work. I would be most gratefull for an advice since that is driving me nuts!

This happens when your translation string is missing one of the variables it’s expecting to exist. Basically, the translation does not have an equal number of variables for the printf() being called on it.

one more tip : when on translate.wordpress.org, beware that the translations for your language may be not validated yet. The default export link exports only “current” translations, i.e. validated ones. Use “Only the matching filter” option and you will be able to export all the messages.

use the “file” unix command to check the content of the .mo file. e.g.

$ file wp-content/languages/bbpress/bbpress-fr_FR.mo

GNU message catalog (little endian), revision 0, 732 messages

by using the default export, I was only retrieving one message, and thus nothing was translated…

Instructions for downloading the current version of the plugin localization bbPress:

1. Go to the resource: http://translate.wordpress.org/projects/bbpress/plugin/ru/default
2. Bottom left click Export, the first field should be “all current” in the second field “mo”. Repeat this action by selecting the second box, “po”.
3. Download both files in the “[root of your WordPress] wp-content plugins bbpress bbp-languages ​​”

Note: The exported files will include only the localization of the green line (current, that is approved by the current version). Yellow highlighted recent changes in the translation, pending approval. They transfer will not be included!

There you can offer your translation.

Important!

The resulting files should be renamed, for example: was the bbpress-plugin-ru.mo, was bbpress-ru_RU.mo.

You can also maintaining plugin and theme translations with the awesome “Codestyling Localization” plugin: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/codestyling-localization/

“fi” is the correct locale for Finnish!!

Placing the language files in /wp-content/languages/ is already prepared in bbPress 2.x but unfortunately it does not work yet (since 2.x branch!) – it would be nice seeing that fixed as overriding language files via updates is no fun at all!

Finally!

Found the solution, at least it works, however maybe there’s a better way of doing it.

Anyway, increasing the memory limit to 64 resolved all of my issues. “Thank you G”!

Hi!

This is driving me nuts! It should be so simple but I cant get it to work.

Running latest versions of WP and the bbPress plugin, installed within WP.

Then I download the language file (sv_SE, swedish) and pretty much everything in the backend stops working.

Depending on what other plugins I have active at the same time different parts stop working.

I’ve tried to put the file in the location you described and the bbpress/bbp-language folder as well.

Please help me!

How to add Ukrainian to the list of translations?
