Assigning a forum role of ‘participant’ to the free members that for some reason cant post fixes the issue.

If everyone could be assigned a ‘participant’ role as default that might be the way forward with this?

Not quite sure where the role named ‘member’ is being assigned from to my free members in the forums, as it doesn’t seem to be selectable role in the drop down for forum role.

I have ‘Participant’ set as the default role which I think it was preset to in the forums options now.

I notice the tick box to assign this role to all new signups, but a box to assign it to existing members except admins would be cool.

I’m not sure what the best way is, but I’m guessing there will be an awful lot of sites breaking if they do this upgrade.

Would love to hear some suggestions.

Not to sound ungrateful though, I love BBPress. I’ll gladly help test everything on my staging site until we can work it out for everyone.

    🙂

Using Wp 3.4.2 and latest version of bp my site is http://riptpages.com  My problem is that I have been informed that there are two issues with registering to my site . 1) once registered  and activated username and password not recognized 2) some members are not receiving activation emails.  Im not sure when the issue started or how to duplicate the problem i ran several test signups and they were successful all the way through.  Not sure what is the problem. Although Im glad to finally find out what was going on because I found it odd at first that I had a steady flow of members registering and no one posting or commenting, but it makes since now. So if anyone could be so kind as to give me a suggestion on how to fix. I read on another forum that the issue could probably be fixed with this wp-mail-smtp plugin but Im not sure if it applies to my problem. Thanks in advance

My original setup was based on WordPress 3.4.2 and BuddyPress 1.6.1
I added a BP Group Forum which we realized will not be sufficient and if anything just confusing to members. So I completely deleted the Forums page and added a new page called Group Discussions. I then went to BP settings and pointed forums option to use this page. No problem there.

Next, I installed bbPress 2.2 / activated / added couple of test forums / check the slug making sure that it worked by going to: http://ch.lifewithababy.com/forums and it did.
Next step was to add a new Forums page which I did. Right after http://ch.lifewithababy.com/forums became blank??? Why???

I then deleted the Forums page and http://ch.lifewithababy.com/forums worked again… hmmm…
At this point I am confused…

So I ended up adding the page and then adding a shortcode to show the forum and it works, kind of.
It works for public but if I login as a member (one of my test buddypress members) the page no longer available??? As a logged in member I get “We’re sorry, but we can’t find the page that you’re looking for. Perhaps searching will help.” which makes no sense at all.

Could someone please help? I have no idea what is causing this mysterious behaviour and how to resolve it.

    Thanks.

    Good morning,

I upgraded to the latest bbPress 2.2, and now clicking on any of my forums return “Page not found. We’re sorry, but we can’t find the page that you’re looking for. Perhaps searching will help.”

I thought it might’ve been my custom theme, so I went back to the default theme but I still have the same problem. The strange thing is that the page title at the top of the browser shows the correct forum title, so it is going to the right URL. But it is just not loading any of the forums

I have my forums in the following URL structure, which worked in bbPress 2.1.3 and below:
    http://www.mywebsite.com/groups/general-groups/my-test-group/forums/

I tried repairing the forums, but that didn’t work either. Please help? How do I fix this?

I am using WordPress 3.4.2 and I would like to display the latest questions (last 5 or 10 Qs) in my static homepage. There is a way to add some code to my template and display bbpress questions?

    Thanks,

    Hi,

I’ve installed bbpress and set up a test forum.

When viewing the forum it show me a nice full-width page without sidebar, but when I click on a topic, bbpress redirects me to a full-width forum page with the sidebar under the forum (while it shouldn’t show up).

Has anyone an idea how I can fix this?

    How it should be: http://www.gebetendoorhonden.be/forum/

    sidebar showing (wrong): http://www.gebetendoorhonden.be/forums/forum/te-koop-aangeboden

btw: this also happens with standard wordpress-themes (twenty-ten). I select full-width page and when clicking on topics I get redirected to page with sidebar!?

    Dear regards,
    Bart

    Hi Everybody, Guys !! ^_^
    Please, I have a question.
My Forums shows me this message:

The qTranslate Editor has disabled itself because it hasn't been tested with your WordPress version yet. This is done to prevent WordPress from malfunctioning. You can reenable it by clicking here (may cause data loss! Use at own risk!). To remove this message permanently, please update qTranslate to the corresponding version.

The point is that: Even if when I’ve installed the bbPress qTranslate was not updated, so this message was right … Now qTranslate it is updated, but by the way bbPress doesn’t seems to see the change and it doesn’t shows me forum-contents by language.

The 1.st link in the message (reenable qTranslate) doesn’t works …
What to do, please, if I want to build a multi-language Forum ??

    Another deal:
Why bbPress shows me this ugly editor ??

If I click on Visual then it is good, but the 1-st one is the defaul one …

    THANK YOU !!
    Pietro

The topic title “Navigating Through The Program” is a topic I created in the forum “New Members” of my site. I have a test username and have tried the role of User and Contributor and they can see the title of the topic, but when they click on the topic, only the reply is there and they can’t see the actual topic’s content which the Administrator wrote. How do I get my members to see the topics and posts? I only want them to see and reply on the posts and forums, as well as create their own topics and forums but not create pages or posts in WordPress.

    #119910

Unclear why the theme would have BBP_Theme_Compat code in it? It certainly doesn’t come with the Toolbox theme.

I just tested bbPress 2.1.3 and:

    * Works fine with Toolbox, out of the box.
    * Works with with BuddyPress.
    * Works fine without BuddyPress.

If you made modifications to Toolbox, or have some custom code in a child theme of Toolbox, that’s likely the cause, though I don’t see how 2.1.3 is the problem, unless you modified files in the bbPress plugin yourself.

I have tried many times to use the migration plug in and I cannot get it to work. So I have put an ad up on oDesk if anyone is interested in helping me out.

    An aside:

I will save my long rant about how poor the documentation for this process is because frankly I am exhausted and exasperated. You guys work so hard and do such good work, but you drop the ball on the simple issue of documentation, so people’s experience with your amazing product (I’ve been using it for 5 years) is one of frustration and anger.

If you create a tool/wizard to help non-web developers use your complicated product you cannot assume they are web developers. Spell things out provide details.

For example: Don’t say “Database Server: Leave as ‘localhost’ unless your hosting provider requires you to use an IP address.”

Instead say something like “Database Server: This is the name of the database server where your OLD data base is located, normally it is “localhost” (no quotes), but sometimes it has a different name or you must provide the IP address of the server. This varies based on how the company where you host your website has things set up.”

Notice the details that a developer probably does not need, but the average user you created the wizard for will need and will get tripped up by.

I am a data scientists. I program all day and I have sent 4 or 5 hours trying to get the migration to work and still no dice.

BBPress Message Board Migration: Step 1 upgrade database
Fixed Price Project – Est. Budget $20.00 – Posted 13 minutes ago

    Job Description
I have a site that is currently using bbPress 1.1-alpha-2539 and I need to finally move to the latest plug-in wordpress version. I need help with the entire process, but this ad is for step 1, migrating the database.

What I want from you is a detailed step by step set of instructions for migrating my database to the new format. I am a programer and data scientist, but have no experience with the tech BBpress is built on, I have played around with the wizards found here:

    http://codex.bbpress.org/import-forums/

I am obviously missing something because they do not work for me. I will provide you with whatever you need so you can work out what the steps are, and I want you to provide for me:

    1) First things first, before you start anything I want you to provide me with a back up of my existing database. If it makes sense to do this in multiple formats then lets do the top 3.

    2) Start with the step by step instructions found here:

    http://codex.bbpress.org/import-forums/

This is not detailed enough because I cannot follow it a get it to work. So you are to add to these step-by-step instructions so that I can do the migration myself when the time comes.

You are free to create new databases as you test out the migration methods, but once you are done I want you to clean up after yourself leaving none of the new databases on my server.

Qualifications: You must know BBpress and WordPress very well, I want someone who can help me with this and other steps in the process (They will be posted to oDesk as new jobs, but I would like to work with the same person throughout the process.). I need someone who can customize or build plug-ins for BBPress if we discover there is a need for a functionality that is not available. You must also be good with databases and able to tell me how to purge certain records based on given criteria. I am also interested in integrating a Wiki with the message board, so your thoughts on that would be helpful too.

In your application please tell me about your experience with BBpress.

    Thanks,

Hi, I’m trying to figure out what am I doing wrong. It is a fresh install of latest BBpress and wordpress. Installation went just fine. It is possible to enter a specific forum, but when i’m trying to access the forum root it shows me this 1 line instead of the list of the forums:
    > סנטור › Forums Forum Topics Posts Freshness b mn 0 0 No Topics
    Link the site: santur.co.il/forums
I got this feeling that its some small tick in a configuration file but i’m quite clueless on how to approach it. Any help would be most welcome. Thanks, Daniel

Reread your message @netweb. I also installed the bbpress plugin, ver 2.1.3. It appears it may have worked, see below. It still says I have no forum parents, even though I have 5 forums. I can’t see anything when I go to visit site, as I still have 1 post as in the fresh default of WP. Doesn’t the bbpress plugin also convert the theme that I used into WP? Or now do I have to build my old bbpress theme into WP?

I have installed bbPress, and I have search the forum everywhere and I have no such things as User Title in Edit Profile, neither in Profile, in Users in WordPress.

My question is, how can I change the Custom Title of different users, or of all. From “Key Master” to something else.

Also I have installed the “Add custom usergroups” plugin that’s somewhere here on the forums, but don’t have the slightest ideea where to select a group to a user.

    Thanks.

Hi, does anyone know how to display latest topics on front page? To be more specific I want them to appear just like normal wordpress posts do. New topics are shown just like new posts. Does anyone know a aplugin that does that or any other suggestions? I don’t need another sidebar widget for bbpress plugin. I can do styling on my own but can’t handle with coding.
    please help

Update: Okay too bad didn’t exactly solve the problem because as soon as you try to navigate the pages from the shown topics. Than you get a 404 error.

Thank you very much for the quick response. In the course of following up with your suggestion I discovered that my problem is actually not a broken process, but one that is severely delayed. I posted a test reply to a topic and then was called away for a couple of hours. When I came back the reply was there just as it should be. So the forum is working but suffering a lot of lag.

I can imagine that the issue causing this may fall outside of the scope of this forum, but if anyone is willing to suggest possible next steps to solve the problem I would be grateful. The forum is hosted with a major provider on a more than basic level service plan and does not typically suffer from lag. I do notice that when I save topics or replies it can take 10-15 seconds to process. That was not the case with the stand-alone bbPress we had.
