I am new with both WordPress and bbpress and I need your help. I have managed to set upp bbpress forum, but I want the pages to be as simple and clean as possible. So, I want to get rid of right hand column, the navigation column, which I am not going to use anyhow. On the normal WordPress pages I have found how to disable this feature, but not for bbpress.
I am using Theme Twenty Twelve, and I have downloaded both WordPress and bbpress this week, so I guess I have the latest version.
I believe my problem is related, or similar to this issue https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/1844#no1
The infinite loop is fixed if I avoid the use of the_content()
Issue #1844 says it was fixed a year ago though…and I’m running the latest version of bbpress…so I don’t know why I ran into this problem.
Hi there
I being trying for a long time to enable users to post soundclouds players and show it on post and forums.
i couldnt make it anyway, i have latest wordpress version and bbpress, i also try with soundcloud shortcut plugin but it doesnt work
any idea how i can make it?
i am testing the teknik-design plugin alongside members, user role editor and s2 member on a somewhat complex project and they all seem to be playing nice towether, i’ve tried several options to restrict bbpress forums AND the topics and replies they contain to a specific user role, the teknik-design plugin is the first thing i’ve found that so far seems to actually work ๐
unless i am mistaken or it is a very recent development, s2member does NOT allow restricting bbpress posts and replies by parent forum role permissions, even w url restrictions as topic urls do not contain forum slug or similar
so w teknik, you would use members or URE to create a new role and apply the viewing permissions w members (w teknik installed and activated) and it should all work, leave the forum open and visible otherwise
you can use the user switching plugin to confirm it is all working as expected
teknik plugin author says he intends to make this not require separate members plugin and release it as stand alone wp directory plugin after a bit more testing, so anyone interested should encourage him to develop this further via the links in my first post ๐

A client of mine uses a bbPress/BuddyPress site with a decent sized user base (400+) and out of the blue (seemingly) we are getting a 404 – Page Not Found on any Child Forum page. Topics still work, Parent Forums still work and it is the same no matter the User Role (Admin, Participant, Moderator, Keymaster…). All plugins are up to date. We did just upgrade to the latest bbPress and noticed the problem shortly after, but not 100% sure that was the cause.
WordPress 3.5.1
bbPress 2.3.2
BuddyPress 1.7.2
s2Memberยฎ Pro v130513
I am NOT using any Role/Capability Plugins.
Haven’t added any new plugins recently.
I tried:
- Re-saving Permalinks
- Changing Permalinks
- Flushing Rewrites
- Remapping Roles to Default
- Adding some Capability Hacks (removed after they didn’t work)
- Checking/Unchecking “Auto Role”
- Changing Archive Slugs and Single Slugs
- There have not been any new Pages added
I’m at a bit of a loss and my client is getting frustrated. Please help if you can!
there is a new plugin in development to restrict forums>topics>replies by user role, seems to work fine in my testing so far, requires wordpress members plugin
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/members-and-bbpress
https://github.com/ZanderAdam/Tehnik-bbPress-Permissions
http://www.tehnik-design.com
This plugin allows bbPress forums to be filtered and restricted based on the users ranks as set by the Members plugin.
The plugin will hide all forums and subforums the user does not have permissions to access.
It will display a 404 error if the user attempts to access restricted forum/topic

Hi, I’ve set-up bbpress and buddy press (latest version) and initially enabled group forums. I’m now trying to disable group forums. Op the fronted site I can change the group settings and disable the group’s forum. In buddypress settings I can uncheck “Allow BuddyPress Groups to have their own forums”.
However, whatever I disable and uncheck, even if I switch off the entire bbPress plugin, when I open a Group, it still tries to reach the Group’s forum. For example: groups/mountainbike/forum and there you see that the page doesn’t exist.
So, disabling seems to work. But how do I change the settings so that upon clicking the group link, I start on the Group’s activity page? Even if I open a new group without a forum, the group link still tries to open a group forum.
I’m sure it’s a small thing, but can’t find it. Hope someone could reach out. Thanks in advance!
I’m looking for a widget or a php funcion for listing latest replies
including latest topics
width its topic text.
Because of limited space I don’t want two separate listings for recent created topics and then recent replies. For me the topic text is also some kind of reply to the topic title.
Experienced with WP but new to bbPress
Have installed BuddyPress and bbPress plugins WP 3.5.1 bbPress 2.3.2 BuddyPress 1.7.2 on test site.
I’m logged in to the backend as admin and forum keymaster
Settings>BuddyPress
I have 3 tabs “Components” “Pages” and “Settings”
I think I should also have a tab “Forums” but this is not present.
I think this should be the page:
../wp-admin/options-general.php?page=bp-forums
But if I try and access directly I get “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”
Have searched web and forums without any joy.
As I understand it without this tab I can’t make much progress
Any help much appreciated
Hi, sorry for kicking up this thread. But I have the same issue or related with disabling the group forum and the link above seems to be down.
I have the latest version of everything. Installed BBPress and BuddyPress. Enabled group forums. I now want to disable group forums. This seems a piece of cake. But when I disable group forums, on the frontpage the link to the group still tries to open [group]/forum. And this provides a notice” page doesn’t exist”.
It seems the group forum is disabled. How can I change the group link so that it doesn’t open to the forum by default, but (for example) the activity stream of the group?
Even when I open a new group without a forum, it still tries to open a forum for this group.
Hey guys!
When I launched the site the forums worked. In a few months I didnt notice any activity on them so when BBpress broke I simply removed it from my menu.
Now, my website grew and I have some visitors that requested a forum. So when I enabled it again I found the same error.
http://www.airsoftclubnederland.nl/forums/forum/algemeen/
Thats the place where my forum hangs out. Is it a theme problem? I disabled the WP security plug-in as a test but it didnt fix it. I have some plug-ins active like social log-in and the likes. But I’m not sure where the start looking to fix this problem. Cant find anything on Google as well.
Curious if anyone can help me out with this ๐
I have exactly the same problem on a virgin install of WP and WPML using the latest builds.
Can someone please help as it seems WPML is a flawed plugin otherwise.
Just updated Trac.
Here’s my latest findings/ questions on this matter:
Hey JJ, just wanted to drop back in here.
I’ve duplicated my live site on a brand new dedicated server and the behaviour I was seeing on my shared server is still there.
I’ve been doing some tests with a server analyst from my host and his initial thoughts are that WP or BBPress, BP is waiting for a ‘true’ return on mail confirmation before it’s actually allowing any php to continue/ refresh the page to let the user see his post.
If I open up a new browser window and refresh the activity stream for example – AS THE OTHER WINDOW IS STILL PROCESSING THE POST – I can see that it has actually ALREADY been posted.
This means the post is being written to the DB pretty quickly and mail is starting to be sent with the topic reply subscription notifications, but it seems that the page can’t refresh for the poster until the mail has been sent and some kind of confirmation of that has been received.
It makes no difference whether I send the email locally or through SMTP (Google Apps), so it’s not the mail server being slow.
The topic that this is worst on still only has about 30 subscribers though, so it’s hardly hundreds or thousands.
I’m guessing that not many users even on BIG sites will get loads more than 30 or so for each topic, so this is why this may have gone unnoticed in the past.
Could you guys explain to me the process of what BBPress is actually going through BEFORE it is allowed to refresh the page the user who is posting is on.
Their post is being posted way before they get to see it – does the page wait for confirmation of the emails being sent.
There isn’t a problem posting new topics with no replies or very few voices.
I think it has to be something along these lines. Thanks! ๐
I’ve got the same problem. Running the latest version of everything. Been having no problems until I tried to go and create a new forum today. The front-end is working fine.

Help!
I am having this problem with span and p tags showing up as code in the posts, after the latest update.
I tried your advice above and added the following function, but it did not work (p and span tags are still showing, not parsing as html).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, please. A screenshot of the output can be viewed here: http://screencast.com/t/CKTLbqHVb

Hi – i’m experiencing similar strangeness as Sami in that my child theme on a multisite network shows the bbPress forums and topics great except when going to the default permalinks of forums and topics … in those cases, the forums go away and turn into a default blog page with the forums as psuedo excerpts appearing with page numbering at bottom – even a featured image gets inserted somehow to boot … none of the other site content gets mixed into this “blog page” – just all the forums run together without looking like forums (but like excerpts) and with no links to forums or topics …
thus mydomain.com/forums = broken as is mydomain.com/topics … yet mydomain.com/forums/my-forum-01/ and/or mydomain.com/forums/my-forum-01/topic-01 are great …
i tried rolling bbPress versions back to 2.2.1 and 2.2.4 but earlier versions have same effect as current 2.3.2 … and while i could create a hack by creating an archive-forum.php file and placing it in my child theme root (based off the archive-forum.php in the templates\defaults\extras folder) it lost a ton of info – e.g., the alerts like “the forum is empty” is gone as are the other alerts like “Oh bother! No topics were found here!” and ditto with the corresponding “Create a New Topic” form …
actually in thinking about themes were bbPress works fine, part of me wonders why the create a topic form even shows on the default forums page – meaning, i have 14 forums and only two of them have test topics yet when looking at the /forums/ default page, it is asking me to create a new topic for forum #2 which is the first forum that is empty (note forum 1 and 3 have test content, forums 2, 4-14 are empty) … maybe that is fine but my point is still valid …
thus with a theme that is having issues, the form and the alerts do not make it in my archive-forum.php file (even the css is a bit different) so i believe there is something fishy with topics and forums defaults that is getting in the way with some themes ..??.. note i tested this with Theme Hyrbrid Prototype and Twenty Twelve with no problem but with Theme Hybrid Shell Responsive Child theme is when my problems stemmed … and i know Sami has created some themes over at Theme Hybrid as well … thus i share his pain :>) (theme compat wise that is)
thanks in advance for any pointers, insights, help that can be shared … cordially, chuck scott
I imported the forums from bbpress version 1.0.2 to the lastest version 2.3.2. Everything looks great, EXCEPT the authors of the posts did not work. All the posts have the same author, which is the Admin. The previous version was the standalone bbpress with the BBintegration plugin.
Please, can anyone help me figure out how to import the authors?
Versions:
Wordpress 3.5.1
Buddypress 1.7.1
BBpress 2.3.2
Members (Plugin) 0.2.2
Dear All,
I am trying to setup BBpress forum for my Buddypress website. I think I have all the latest version of each software as you can see above. The website is mostly member only, including the forum. This forum is set as a global forum, I don’t have forum for BP Group, in fact I turn off BP Group functionality all together as we don’t need it.
The goal is to set the forum so only registered and logged-in member can view and interact with it.
My main problem right now is as follows:
1. I logged-in as an Administrator and created a Category (or Forum) and I set it as Private.
2. I checked if this user can see the forum, and it does.
3. I logged out and logged in as one of the member, which has WP Role as an Editor.
4. I went to the Forum and expecting that the user can see the Category that the admin had created. But instead I got ‘Oh bother! No forums were found here!’ message.
5. Then I went to check the capabilities of the Editor role using the Members plugin, and confirm that Editor has read_private_forums checked.
6. I went to the Users management page (having relogin again as Admin) and change the member’s Forum Role to Keymaster.
7. Went back in as the member, still can’t see the category. Admittedly this was a long shot because I read somewhere that Forum Role doesn’t have any effect these days.
8. Then I went to the Users management page (having relogin again as Admin) and change the member’s Role to Administrator.
9. Went back in as the member, and now I can see the Category.
Obviously this in not the behaviour that I expected. I searched high and low on the net, and didn’t seem to find an answer for this.
Anybody has any idea what might causing this? I’ve been on this problem for almost a week now, and still haven’t found a solution. Asking in this forum is my last resort, so any pointer would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Chris Prakoso
Hi, I am using bbPress as part of a wordpress site. I would like to show “recent activity” in a sidebar widget without using too much screen space. In other words a combination of the “recent topics” and “recent replies” widgets, e.g. as below (1 topic, 1 reply, but able to set number would be good also)
“Recent Forum Activity”
Latest Topic…
Latest Reply…
Is that possible with shortcodes? else maybe a way to combine the output of the two current widgets?
Thanks
1. can more than 110 000 users be imported
This should not be a problem.
2. My website runs a specific version of phpbb SEO for allowing permalinks for every forum โ will this be imported ? (so that there is not a lot of redirect)
No, these will NOT be imported and you will need to manually set your permalinks and make some redirects using .htaccess
3. My website stores custom profile fields for every user (more than just ICQ, but also custom ones). How could I have the same kind of functionalities using bbpress ?
Currently when importing from phpBB we are importing and storing the default phpBB user fields as outlined here. You could modify the import script to include any of your custom user profile fields so they also get stored in wp_usermeta
.
After that you would need to find a WordPress plugin that supports extended user profile fields to utilize that data. I am not sure of any specific plugin that can really do that out of the box with bbPress at the moment but at least you ‘would’ have all of your users advanced profile data stored.
4. What about performance โ will it be better than phpbb. I know bbpress is very powerful for small forums, but I have no idea regarding huge ones. Can wp caching plugins work for bbpress as well ?
There are some large sites running bbPress and I would suggest you setup a test site to see how it works for yourself personally.
As to caching it appears that ‘WP Super Cache’and ‘W3 Total Cache’ do not work well with bbPress as discussed in this topic though there is ‘Lite Cache’ which appears to work with bbPress as per this topic.
5. Is the entire UI translated in French โ it doesnโt seem to me, but maybe Iโm wrong.
The current status of the French translation is at 11% translated with 879 strings untranslated though 734 of those strings have been translated and are waiting for the fr_FR translation validator to validate the translations.
https://codex.bbpress.org/bbpress-in-your-language/
6. Can I use any plugins writter for wp for bbpress ?
I am not sure what you mean for this question
Any more questions please ask away…
Can you please create a ticket in trac and we can test this and find a fix:
https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/
After much soul Google searching, I finally came across this good explanation of how to display the lastest x amount of posts.

Hope it’s helpful for someone else.
Any news?I’ve managed to solve the issue at version 2.3.1 but now i’m experiencing the same problem again at the latest version
