I login and everything is fine until I try to hit the forum index then I’ve lost my session. I’ve tested on FF and chrome.

Normal members are having problems editing their replies or threads. It seems like (I’ve tested it) the edit button disappears after some time. HOW DO I MAKE IT STAY 100% FOREVER?

    Hello,
I replaced the front page of bbpress by displaying the archive of topics. but the topics are displayed by DATE whilst I am having 2 sticky topics (forums rules) that I want them always to be on the top of the archive page.
now the latest topic is on the top and the sticky are on the bottom.

is there any solution for the sticky topics to be always sticky whether in their forums or the archive of topics?

    Thanks for the help.

I have raised this in the WordPress forum because I assume it may have a general answer when an installation screws up the system.
I uploaded the bbPress folder as instructed for a first install.
Got “Fatal error”. So I deleted the folder and re-uploaded it. I have now done this three times on two separate days. I have meanwhile also uploaded a Log in form widget which is happily working.

Yet again, after uploading after third attempt:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 41943040 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 30720 bytes) in /home/aconbury/public_html/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-list-table.php on line 304

    Earlier, second attempt I got:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 41943040 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 30720 bytes) in /home/aconbury/public_html/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-list-table.php on line 866

Only way back into wp-admin is to delete bbPress YET again! Would welcome any ideas.
Bog standard set up, host thirty odd sites but never a WordPress one!

Latest version of wordpress (three days old) and yesterdays bbPress)

    Michael,

There is a Simple Machines package called BlogBridger, which allows you to migrate Simple Machines users to WordPress. I’ve not used it specifically to migrate users, but I’ve used it to sync logins between SMF and WP and it will create the WP account based on the SMF login, which sounds like what you want.

As I recall it took a little tweaking to get it to work properly with the latest SMF, but it wasn’t hard. Certainly worth you taking a look.

I have installed the bbpress latest version 2.3.2 and added the bbpress forum search widget in side bar.

When i used to search the forums, I am always getting the below error message as search result.

“Sorry, but nothing matched your search criteria. Please try again with some different keywords.”

I tried with “http://wordpress.org/plugins/bbpress-search-widget/” and “http://wordpress.org/plugins/search-bbpress/” plug-ins but the result is same.

Please suggest the solution to overcome this issue.

Funny that. We got the same double-separation and missing menu on our end, but its the latest of our mysterious problems preventing rendering the forums on our website at all. (They used to work fine, but they first stopped showing on the site, then the menu too.) Disabling other plugins doesn’t fix this, apparently.

    Hi Robin,

Thanks for the advice. I tried that and it had no effect. I actually commented that whole section as a test and no change. Is this the right code snippet to make this change?

    Thanks

    Just test this..

Copy the following file into your Twenty Ten Theme folder.

    wp-content/plugins/bbpress/extras/archive-forum.php

And inside that file delete this line <?php get_sidebar(); ?>
Hope that gives you an idea.

I am new with both WordPress and bbpress and I need your help. I have managed to set upp bbpress forum, but I want the pages to be as simple and clean as possible. So, I want to get rid of right hand column, the navigation column, which I am not going to use anyhow. On the normal WordPress pages I have found how to disable this feature, but not for bbpress.

I am using Theme Twenty Twelve, and I have downloaded both WordPress and bbpress this week, so I guess I have the latest version.

I believe my problem is related, or similar to this issue https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/1844#no1

The infinite loop is fixed if I avoid the use of the_content()

Issue #1844 says it was fixed a year ago though…and I’m running the latest version of bbpress…so I don’t know why I ran into this problem.

i am testing the teknik-design plugin alongside members, user role editor and s2 member on a somewhat complex project and they all seem to be playing nice towether, i’ve tried several options to restrict bbpress forums AND the topics and replies they contain to a specific user role, the teknik-design plugin is the first thing i’ve found that so far seems to actually work ๐Ÿ™‚

unless i am mistaken or it is a very recent development, s2member does NOT allow restricting bbpress posts and replies by parent forum role permissions, even w url restrictions as topic urls do not contain forum slug or similar

so w teknik, you would use members or URE to create a new role and apply the viewing permissions w members (w teknik installed and activated) and it should all work, leave the forum open and visible otherwise

you can use the user switching plugin to confirm it is all working as expected

teknik plugin author says he intends to make this not require separate members plugin and release it as stand alone wp directory plugin after a bit more testing, so anyone interested should encourage him to develop this further via the links in my first post ๐Ÿ™‚

A client of mine uses a bbPress/BuddyPress site with a decent sized user base (400+) and out of the blue (seemingly) we are getting a 404 – Page Not Found on any Child Forum page. Topics still work, Parent Forums still work and it is the same no matter the User Role (Admin, Participant, Moderator, Keymaster…). All plugins are up to date. We did just upgrade to the latest bbPress and noticed the problem shortly after, but not 100% sure that was the cause.

    WordPress 3.5.1
    bbPress 2.3.2
    BuddyPress 1.7.2
    s2Memberยฎ Pro v130513

I am NOT using any Role/Capability Plugins.
Haven’t added any new plugins recently.
    I tried:

    • Re-saving Permalinks
    • Changing Permalinks
    • Flushing Rewrites
    • Remapping Roles to Default
    • Adding some Capability Hacks (removed after they didn’t work)
    • Checking/Unchecking “Auto Role”
    • Changing Archive Slugs and Single Slugs
    • There have not been any new Pages added

I’m at a bit of a loss and my client is getting frustrated. Please help if you can!

there is a new plugin in development to restrict forums>topics>replies by user role, seems to work fine in my testing so far, requires wordpress members plugin

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/members-and-bbpress

    https://github.com/ZanderAdam/Tehnik-bbPress-Permissions

    http://www.tehnik-design.com

This plugin allows bbPress forums to be filtered and restricted based on the users ranks as set by the Members plugin.
The plugin will hide all forums and subforums the user does not have permissions to access.
It will display a 404 error if the user attempts to access restricted forum/topic

Hi, I’ve set-up bbpress and buddy press (latest version) and initially enabled group forums. I’m now trying to disable group forums. Op the fronted site I can change the group settings and disable the group’s forum. In buddypress settings I can uncheck “Allow BuddyPress Groups to have their own forums”.

However, whatever I disable and uncheck, even if I switch off the entire bbPress plugin, when I open a Group, it still tries to reach the Group’s forum. For example: groups/mountainbike/forum and there you see that the page doesn’t exist.

So, disabling seems to work. But how do I change the settings so that upon clicking the group link, I start on the Group’s activity page? Even if I open a new group without a forum, the group link still tries to open a group forum.

I’m sure it’s a small thing, but can’t find it. Hope someone could reach out. Thanks in advance!

I’m looking for a widget or a php funcion for listing latest replies including latest topics width its topic text.

Because of limited space I don’t want two separate listings for recent created topics and then recent replies. For me the topic text is also some kind of reply to the topic title.

Experienced with WP but new to bbPress

Have installed BuddyPress and bbPress plugins WP 3.5.1 bbPress 2.3.2 BuddyPress 1.7.2 on test site.

I’m logged in to the backend as admin and forum keymaster

    Settings>BuddyPress

I have 3 tabs “Components” “Pages” and “Settings”

I think I should also have a tab “Forums” but this is not present.

I think this should be the page:

    ../wp-admin/options-general.php?page=bp-forums

But if I try and access directly I get “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”

Have searched web and forums without any joy.

As I understand it without this tab I can’t make much progress

    Any help much appreciated

Hi, sorry for kicking up this thread. But I have the same issue or related with disabling the group forum and the link above seems to be down.

I have the latest version of everything. Installed BBPress and BuddyPress. Enabled group forums. I now want to disable group forums. This seems a piece of cake. But when I disable group forums, on the frontpage the link to the group still tries to open [group]/forum. And this provides a notice” page doesn’t exist”.

It seems the group forum is disabled. How can I change the group link so that it doesn’t open to the forum by default, but (for example) the activity stream of the group?

Even when I open a new group without a forum, it still tries to open a forum for this group.

    Hey guys!

When I launched the site the forums worked. In a few months I didnt notice any activity on them so when BBpress broke I simply removed it from my menu.

Now, my website grew and I have some visitors that requested a forum. So when I enabled it again I found the same error.

    http://www.airsoftclubnederland.nl/forums/forum/algemeen/

Thats the place where my forum hangs out. Is it a theme problem? I disabled the WP security plug-in as a test but it didnt fix it. I have some plug-ins active like social log-in and the likes. But I’m not sure where the start looking to fix this problem. Cant find anything on Google as well.

Curious if anyone can help me out with this ๐Ÿ™‚

I have exactly the same problem on a virgin install of WP and WPML using the latest builds.

Can someone please help as it seems WPML is a flawed plugin otherwise.

    Just updated Trac.

Here’s my latest findings/ questions on this matter:

Hey JJ, just wanted to drop back in here.
I’ve duplicated my live site on a brand new dedicated server and the behaviour I was seeing on my shared server is still there.

I’ve been doing some tests with a server analyst from my host and his initial thoughts are that WP or BBPress, BP is waiting for a ‘true’ return on mail confirmation before it’s actually allowing any php to continue/ refresh the page to let the user see his post.

If I open up a new browser window and refresh the activity stream for example – AS THE OTHER WINDOW IS STILL PROCESSING THE POST – I can see that it has actually ALREADY been posted.
This means the post is being written to the DB pretty quickly and mail is starting to be sent with the topic reply subscription notifications, but it seems that the page can’t refresh for the poster until the mail has been sent and some kind of confirmation of that has been received.
It makes no difference whether I send the email locally or through SMTP (Google Apps), so it’s not the mail server being slow.

The topic that this is worst on still only has about 30 subscribers though, so it’s hardly hundreds or thousands.

I’m guessing that not many users even on BIG sites will get loads more than 30 or so for each topic, so this is why this may have gone unnoticed in the past.
Could you guys explain to me the process of what BBPress is actually going through BEFORE it is allowed to refresh the page the user who is posting is on.
Their post is being posted way before they get to see it – does the page wait for confirmation of the emails being sent.

There isn’t a problem posting new topics with no replies or very few voices.
I think it has to be something along these lines. Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚
