Hi,
I do have a similar issue, probably related, maybe clears things up for testing.
I also have the .even class every where.
A new reply from a user/participant goes directly under the original first post/topic,
even when there are already replies made, which I guess happens when using the bottom reply form, since that is there to reply to the original post.
When the admin edits that reply it goes to the bottom.
When anybody (user or admin) uses the reply link in a post/reply the reply goes directly under the post replied to and stays there even after an admin edit.
Issue I have with that is it is not clear it was a reply to a reply, maybe should go to the right a bit or something or change backgroundcolor or add ‘REPLY TO: at the top of the reply.
I just installed this plugin and I went through these steps
Step by step guide to setting up a bbPress forum – Part 1
and I can’t get the list of forums to show up on the forum page.
I named the page forum and then I also tried adding the extra code as outlined in step 2 [bbp-forum-index] but neither create a list of the forums that I have created. I have two set up.
http://massagepracticebuilder.com/forums/
This is one of the forums I set up just to test. http://massagepracticebuilder.com/forums/forum/diy-websites/
And why does that have the address forums/forum ??
I just went and followed the directions to set up a forum.
thanks
Julie
Help! I’ve been at this for hours and am going out of my mind…
I have the latest of everything, bbpress, buddypress and have deactivated all plugins except for buddypress, bbpress, members and akismet. I actually even deleted and reinstalled buddypress, bbpress and members. I deactivated my theme and am using the default buddypress one.
The site is visually a mess: http://www.tafaforum.com/
I am the only one who can post on the forums. Everything was fine until yesterday when several plugins updated, including bbpress. I had also been mucking around with trying to get a tinymce plugin to work for the forums.
If I disable everything and just have bbpress, I can post (as a fake member). Add buddypress, and I get a “You cannot reply to this topic” message at the bottom.
I messed around with roles and have enabled everything possible that could contribute to this, but the one thing that I notice is that the members all have an author role for their wordpress roles (as I want them to post on our blog), and even though they all show participant for their forum roles on the Users Page, when I go into the settings for the roles, I only see the author role as having any users, not the participant one.
Yes, this could be a buddypress or members issue, but bbpress is the one that had the latest update, so I figure that the problem starts here. If not, please send me where I need to go….
Akismet was the culprit for me. My test topics were called “Test 1,” “Test 2” etc and I guess it didn’t like that. I disabled the “Allow Akismet to actively prevent forum spam” option and Voila, notifications returned. Strangely, the topics still posted. Seems Akismet just keboshed the notifications. I also tested the subforum notifications and they worked also. I’ll post more if I find that other factors exist, but for right now looks like it works.
Hi 3tonine/Rachel – As a followup, make sure to have the latest version of the bbPress Enable TinyMCE Visual Tab plugin. I’m using WP 3.7.1, bbPress 2.5.1 with TinyMCE Advanced 3.5.9. I had to use bbPress Enable TinyMCE Visual Tab 1.0.1 in order for it work properly, and this doesn’t appear to be available yet from the WordPress Plugin Directory.

Regardless, thanks for the pointers to all the bits/bobs, once I got the correct versions it works great.
I agree that a fully-functioning visual editor with feature parity to WordPress would be great to see. In fact, I would like to see it be made a very high priority as forum users certainly have come to expect a WYSIWYG editor. To me, this feature trumps any other as it has the greatest effect on users and their ability to post.
Either the problem is difficult to fix or the main developers do not agree a great visual editor is very important because it has been disabled by default since April, which surprises me a bit. When it initially was disabled I figured it would be a temporary thing and would be back for 2.4, and now work is being done on 2.6 without mention of this. :/
Holly,
bbPress will work out of the box for most implementations. How much you then customise it is up to you.
Typically you might want to change a little of the styling – that depends on how much styling your existing site has – There wasn’t a link to your existing site in your original post.
Then you might wish to alter some layout – although the default is pretty standard
The documentation
Codex
will show you what you need to do to set up, and if you already have wordpress, then you could see how well bbPress would suit you in a couple of hours by following the set up guide and creating some test forums.
Hello, I installed the plugin bbpress, adding a forum page, inserted the shortcode, but my forum is a vertical list, I would like to appear as a horizontal blocking like normal forums. Anyone know how to do this? I use the responsive theme, but i tested with other themes and it does the same exact thing. a little assistance would be cool, for i am thoroughly frustrated.
My website = places2bee.com
I’m not sure but I’m guessing this is not an intended effect or am I wrong? The voice count works as expected until one uses the forum repair tool and performs a Count voices in each topic which then excludes the guest topics and replies from the voice count. Also tested on a new bbPress install with other plugins disabled.
I’m using WordPress 3.7.1. and bbPress 2.5
I’m not sure but I think this only came up around the time I upgraded to bbPress 2.5
Thanks Steve! Here’s my latest reply on that same thread: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/anyone-supporting-this-plugin-help-w-discussions?replies=28#post-4951643. Giving up on the migration and sending the client to GROU.PS in the meantime since they will migrate Ning data (including forums). Then start 100% fresh with our beloved bbPress and BuddyPress.
Hi, i’m registered on your site to test this problem… Is strange problem..
This issue was only in a single topic template.. please.. Open File content-single-topic.php and backup it..
On line 28 remove entire this:
<?php if ( bbp_show_lead_topic() ) : ?>
<?php bbp_get_template_part( 'content', 'single-topic-lead' ); ?>
<?php endif; ?>
This is only a test to see if anything happens..
You have another problem.. If i logout from yuor site i cannot view my test topic.. i see only your..
If i get login i see all..
Hello again Stephen,
so here is what happens…
SHORTCODE SOLUTION
I inserted the [bbp-forum-form]
shortcode and can see a forum creation form while logged is as KeyMaster. However, once logged in as “Moderator” I only get the following message
You cannot create new forums.
PLUGIN APPROACH
I installed the suggested plugin (which is very straight forward and easy to use BTW) Advanced user capability editing for bbPress.
Even though options are all set appropriately, the “Forum” menu will not display as long as the user is a “moderator”.
In order to be as thorough as possible, here are the tests I ran :
- Changed moderator’s WP user role to each available option (subscriber -> admin) and tested every time
- Used plugin’s reset to defaults button (essentially disabled everything)
- Added options to enable creating and editing forums
What i noticed is that the “Topics” and “Replies” menus react to BBpress user-role settings whereas the “Forum” menu does not. This might seem logical, but in my mind it validates the fact that BBpress roles are not entirely overridden or broken.
I am currently using GoDaddy hosting for another site, which allows for 1GB of a mySQL database but I am not sure if that will be enough
That indeed will be more than enough, if you needed 100 times your requirements then maybe some more accurate testing would be required.
Typically with web hosts when you find you are nearing your file and/or database storage limits you will receive a notification from them which would typically include details on how to seamlessly upgrade your site with increased storage for the relevant file or db storage.
You could try the latest version of the plugin, it is hosted on GitHub here
https://github.com/boonebgorges/Import-from-Ning
Actually it looks like the WP hosted version is also the same version

Hi there,
have updated in my test environment first and got all the css errors. Have applied the patch and it is still not working. Have reverted back to 2.4.1. Do you know when 2.5.1 will be released to properly fix this issue.
Kind regards
Tried testing on your forum, but your forums disappeared while I was looking around.
Can you try reinstalling bbPress? I can’t see any reason why get_post_type_object()
would fail in any bbPress context.
Hi Stephen ( @netweb ), I spent my whole sunday afternoon setting up two test sites where in one of them (http://kooksjournal.net/forums/) I have bbpress 2.5 and in the other one (http://kooksjournal.com/forums/) I have bbpress 2.3.2 installed. I created two users for bothsites.
“guest” user is a subscriber, “test” user is the admin. they both have the same password “welcome”
if you login as “guest” user and visit this forum: http://kooksjournal.net/forums/forum/science-technology/welcome-to-the-science-technology-forum/
you will see that the css is broken, but if you login as admin “test” you will see that the page displays normally.
if you do the same for this forum: http://kooksjournal.com/forums/forum/science-technology/welcome-to-the-science-technology-forum/
you will see that there is no css problem for both “guest” and the “test” user. I hope this helps.
crzyhrse – I am in the process of trying to improve the documentation – I started using wordpress & bbPress earlier this year and am still learning. This is community software, and community documentation, so I am trying to do my bit by helping the documentation side, and by spending time on the forum helping others where I can. The step by step guides I am writing are designed to fit the bill of “cohesive simple directions”, but if they are failing or you haven’t found them, then they are not working as planned. Let me know and I’ll try to improve layout and/or content, but I need good feedback to do this.
The text change suggested by renai42 works (with a small change) if done to the bbpress.css.
Can I ask you to look at
Step by step guide to setting up a bbPress forum – part 2
and the styling crib
bbPress Styling Crib
I’ve just tested and added Renai’s css so look there for what to use.
If you can improve wording or content to help others – please let me know what could be better phrased.
If it doesn’t work, come back with what you did, and I’ll see if I can help further
I just installed the latest WordPress and BBpress and the forum opens fine on a computer but when you open it on a mobile device it does not open and I get “oh brother there are no forums found”?
Hmm thanks for the headsup. Just tested subscription on a sub-forum and no, no email notification.
First, Inspiration Point (http://www.inspiration-point.org) is using a child version of TwentyEleven. I’m using the latest WordPress software.
I did some reading and I’m liking what I am hearing about the bbpress forum plugin. On my site, there is area that I’m calling Shore Classified. Here’s what I’d like to do:
Shore Classified is born out of a frustration I had with my church. It’s not because they didn’t want to put a request on the church’s mailing list. It had to do with limited resource and wary of unwanted advertisements. I’m not the only one
Why not create a place where people can posts “blog updates”, “Christian business”, “Church Events”, “Help Wanted” and etc. My initial thought is to limit this to a region. It can easily be expanded.
I, obviously want to be careful and it’s why I didn’t jump on it. 🙂 Are there additional plugins? How can I best set the forum to safeguard against unwanted trolls? Can bbpress be configured to require registration before posting?
There are probably other questions that I should be asking. I’d appreciate some inputs. Thanks in advance.
If i got my forums click on forum and then click on a thread my bread crumbs read like this:
Home › Topic › This is a Test
They should read:
Home › Forum › Control Ants > This is a Test
If I click on “Topic” I get a 404 error.
I did install the BBPress String wrap plugin but that did not help and I have no idea how to edit it.
Goto to this page and click on the stick thread and you will see what i am talking about.
How can i fix this?
Thank you for your time.
Hi Stephen ( @netweb ), Thanks for helping me. I tried the fix with bbpress 2.5 but it doesn’t seem to be working. The strange thing is if I login as admin, there is no problem. :). I have to go back to version 2.3.2 for now but I will set up a test site with the same problem and give you admin/ subscriber access. maybe it would help you better to see the problem. I will do this on the weekend.
Best regards
Tested – I subscribed, but in profile it says
“subscriptions
You are not currently subscribed to any forums.”
So no that doesn’t seem to work.
@Stephen Edgar – any ideas 2.5 working in twentyten !
