I have successfully moved by vbulletin site into phpbb3 and now ready to finalize the moved to bbpress. I had done a test on this process twice in the past and confirmed the steps and all that jazz but the last part is where I always get hung up.

Generally in the integration of the bbpress and wp users and logins.

Seems that may be again the issue but even prior to converting the data into bbpress.

My current site is a WPMU and has buddypress with bbpress standalone already connected. So, there is no bb_users table. When I run the convertor it of course is looking for that table and returns an error which kills the process.

knowing how sensitive this dang thing is I thought I would ask for some advice and help first prior to just trying to create tables and/or modify this convertor files. Both things I truly have little clue on how to do properly.

Some added info – I do have a users table and that is what is connected to WP and the last step in the conversation process is actually to rename the bp_user table to users if you intend to use WP for your users versus BBP. This is something I don’t want to change as it currently works just fine.

Finally, incase someone has a completely other solution here is what I got..

PHPBB3 has all my posts and users and is installed on the same domain as WPMU and BBP. It is also sharing the same database.

I have confirmed the phpbb forum works just fine with the users and my WPMU with BBP also works just fine. I would like to dump the phpbb and use bbp. I then am hoping to check into the bbp plugin.

Thank for all help and advice.

I am using 1.1x. I was able to successfully convert to phpBB. You can see the converted forum here:

    http://leftcoastlogic.com/forum/phpbb/

I have full admin access to this, and checked that the tables, topics, posts and users were all successfully converted to phpbb.

I then downloaded the phpbb-to-bbpress script from code.google.com (per other posts here):

    http://code.google.com/p/phpbb3-to-bbpress1-converter/

Following instructions, I began the conversion and it stepped through the process. It appeared to have completed the “converting posts” step, although the last step had some strange text:

    View post on imgur.com

I then proceeded to the next step, “convert users data”, and got this error message:

    View post on imgur.com

I then tried to run the script a second time, and got this error message:

    View post on imgur.com

So, I guess I’m not having much luck converting my phpBB forum to bbPress. Any suggestions?

    I think bbpress better

    1. That’s why I said “also”. Which means I recognize that BBPress has a plugin system. But Vanilla and other such options exist.

    2. I do not want the bloat of PHPBB etc. That’s why I come to BBPress.

You’re missing my point. If BBPress cannot give me absolutely effortless WordPress integration, then there’s no reason for me to bother with this premature software. Vanilla does all I need, and does it better.

However, if you can make WordPress integration seamless, the default, and open to most plugins (such as spam protection or text editing boxes, etc) then you have a fan.

BBPress has nothing else going for it other than the fact that it’s from the WordPress folks.

    Nah.

    1. Simplicity: Vanilla is top notch, and also has a plugin system.

    Plugins

    2. Comprehensiveness: Invision boards or PHPBB etc.

bbPress hasn’t been created to be a gargantuan monster (such as PhpBB.)

So. Why is it that BBPress is not just a full plugin to WordPress and therefore totally integrated with WordPress? If this is already being discussed (as I hope it is!) then when is this planned?

There’s a nifty sticky on the very top of the page: https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbpress-plugin-updates

My main problem was getting my worpdress to look like my phpbb. After spending about a month on my phpbb i scraped it and went to bbpress as users find your forum alot more legit if it fits into your whole websites theme

A quick search leads me to this: http://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/converter/smf_1.1.x_to_phpbb3/

Which version of SMF are you using?

If I remember correctly, the iBlogPro Forum (using bbPress) shares its database with the WP installation (using iBlog Pro theme). I now need to import my old forum data from my previous forum, which was phpBB. I have a script for that, but to do so I need to connect the bbPress forum to that database. Once I have done so, I will then have a bbPress forum with all of the imported data – nice!

But – after that, how do I then re-integrate with the WP database and the iBlog Pro theme?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew a way to take wordpress comments and convert them into BBpress. Or alternatively maybe WordPress Comments into PHPBB, then use a converter to go from PHPBB to BBPress?

If anyone has done this before or if you know how best to approach this I’d sure appreciate some guidance. Thank you.

Indeed, this is an excellent plugin. Easiest transfer of forums I have ever done.

It would be cool if it wasn’t a phpBB site and was actually powered by bbPress.

This can be closed I suppose, since I tried out phpbb3 and with a little tinkering, and installing IIS with SMTP, got it to work.

Just an update to who ever reads this…. im not going to mess around with bbpress anymore…. if an application is this finiky and wont install properly and do what its suppose to then i do not want anything to do with it…..

I have installed hundreded of different php applications …. so either i am just dumb and dont know what i am doing or this doesnt work properly…..

i also dont want to sit around waiting a week for someone to reply like most people been doing….

I will stick with my wordpress and my phpbb both of them installed and works perfectly…

I even went the extra step and installed it in the root of my site instead of in the root of wordpress installation

so my url should of looked like this example.com/forum and after installation it still went to exmaple.com/forum/forum and said page can not be found and it does the same thing with the admin panel….

and this time i skipped the wordpress installation just to see if i could get the forum working by its self first with its own mysql database….

with no luck after a week and spending all day trying to get it to work properly i just give up…..

i would not recomment bbpress to anyone who wants an easy installation and a smooth process because its anything but that….

    Have fun with this crap…

    bye
