Are you using PHP 5.3? If your host allows, then switch to 5.2 till the time bbPress 1.1 isn’t out. (Or you may try out the 1.1 alpha)
@Paul – Done.
@stockable.net – Open to anything, but I have a semi-strict laundry-list of things I’m looking for to have something included in the package.
Excellent progress.
@JJJ
Probably a bit late now, but could you please can you bung an “Updated: April 14 2011” or similar in the top post whenever you update?
As it stands, some people may come to that post and think that was the state of play 6 months ago!
Hello there,
I just installed bbpress and came across nothing that seemed out of the ordinary during the installation. When trying to access the forum index, however, I get something that looks like this:
(actually I’m not sure what markups work here so I’ll put a text link)

What? How do I fix this? When I try to log in, it gives me a whole screen full of similar messages. I can take a screen shot of those and post it if needed. I’ve tried deleting my forum directory and giving it a clean install, but the problem persists.
Thanks!
If anyone wants to mock some designs for a new template, I’d love to see some. Thinking something simple like kakumei, with the timeless look of TwentyTen, with some P2 mixed in for good measure.
@JJJ
Would you be open to a ‘starter’ theme so users can create their own bbPress theme with ease? I have one almost finished. This theme also includes theme options where users can switch between a single column, 2 column, and three column etc.
This is possible to do in the trunk/development version of bbPress, which will eventually be version 1.1 and is very near completion. A few issues cropped up a few weeks ago and there are trac tickets open for them that need to be addressed before a beta will be made available.

@yutt – It’s my official job responsibility at Automatic to contribute a relatively large percentage of my time directly to the development of both bbPress and BuddyPress. The past negativity of the bbPress community has played a part in the lack of developer contributions, but I think a bigger part is the need for integrated forums not being as large as some of us perceive it to be. If everyone wanted it, more people would naturally contribute. Either way, I’m happy to keep things moving, and I’m always around if someone needs to contact me, has questions, etc… It’s also not a matter of “WordPress HQ” since bbPress is its own project, it’s more a matter of someone committing to seeing it through, which I plan to.
@qprints – Good eye
Did JJJ sneak in and update the first post again?
All done except
Template – 90%
Tag Tools – In progress
which is realy cool, thanks to everyone that has worked on the plugin!
Is it possible to import the user accounts, boards, and posts from my old SMF forum? I saw that there are some WP plug-ins that automate this, but they require that the forum be in a sub-directory. Currently, my WP installation and integrated BBPress forum (beta) is http://leftcoastlogic.com/blog/forum, but the current active forum is http://leftcoastlogic.com/forum

I appreciate that “super sticky” or “stick to front” should do what you expect it to do, but it’s worth also rethinking what you want, and how it could be handled in a different way now that bbP is a plugin.
You appear to want every forum to have at the top a link to a closed topic with one post in it.
Well, couldn’t your forum guidelines content be a WordPress page? Then you could plonk a link in the relevant template and style it how you like?
(Or, have a widget area, or a special menu – something that would let you change the links and link text without having to change the template). In fact you could keep it as a topic, just link to it a different way.
I know super stickies are how forums normally handle this sort of thing, but not all the traditional fudges need to be carried across to bbP-as-plugin.
Hi!
I installed bbpress under http://www.sitename.com/forum. Everything went fine but I can’t access the admin panel.
http://www.sitename.com/forum/bb-admin wont load anything only the forum page again.
See part two of my question….
Also, if I am logged into wordpress (using my forum administrator name), and go to the forum, and then click the ADMIN link, nothing happens. The page should send me to http://montecristoowners.com/forum/bb-admin/ … but the page doesnt change.
…. that is all through the forum (since the logins are tied together).
Anyway, it just started working. Not sure what I did.

however, if I go into my WordPress administration, there is NO bbpress
bbPress is not a wordpress plugin and so it cannot be administrated from the WordPress admin panel.

I just installed bbpress at my site.
http://montecristoowners.com/forum/
I’m using bbpress-1.0.3 and wordpress 3.1.1 …
The installation appeared to go smoothly (no errors, the tables for the forum appear in my database). You can see by the page above, that the forum is up and running … however, if I go into my WordPress administration, there is NO bbpress. I checked under SETTINGS, but the BBPress doesn’t appear there.

@padams
The registration is handled by WordPress (so the back-end part of the Recaptcha plugin currently available would be the same). Only the template is shown by bbPress, and you can make use of the ‘register_form’ action.
What hooks does bbPress plugin use during new user registrations? I’m looking to write a recaptcha plugin but not sure what hooks might be available when a new user registers.
Quick followup –
I “unstuck” that post and saw there is a new method for getting a “super sticky” – “stick to front”. So I tried that, and though I can see the “super” attribute in the query string, it doesn’t seem to work as the post is not anywhere but its original sub-forum.
