John,
Your assessment sounds spot on. There is no bbPress.php file in that Stand-alone version I downloaded off the main page.
What is the link to the forum plugin that may be used for WordPress? Is there one available?
Thanks much,
Josh
Sounds to me like you both downloaded the stand-alone version of bbPress and put it in your plugins directory.
bbPress currently is not a plugin, bit there is a version in development that is. The version of bbPress that you get by clicking “Download” in the upper right hand corner of this site is not a plugin for WordPress.

Hello,
I have deep integrate a forum before but i want to make sure i don’t do anything stupid.
So a while ago Kevin from this forum
http://kevinjohngallagher.com/
pointed to this site-/tutorial about who to integrate..
http://wpbbpthemes.org/integration/
I think it’s a nice and helpful site, i only have some basic questions before i do something stupid.
At this moment i have a clean installed WordPress site good to go.
Just clean installed and nothing changed in the settings or plugin’s loaded. (fresh and clean)
First question:
Known Issues on why this tutorial doesn’t work:
* “If you have changed your database prefix”
This is a tricky one, i always change the database prefix before installing from wp_ to something unique because people say it’s much better to have a unique prefix against hacking your site.
Will this turn into some drama or do i need to stay focus so i put the same prefix’s at both files?
I think the basic prefix for bbPress is bb_ should i change that to my unique prefix i used in my wp-config.php file?
And second question:
Do i need to make-/add a brand new (clean) database for the bbPress install or can i add the same database information in the bb-config.php file same as i have done in the wp-config.php file?
I was searching in the plugin list isn’t there a plugin that will place a Maintenance screen on your forum when you are working on it.. ?
I see WordPress have a few plugin’s for this but bbPress hasn’t.
bbPress isn’t more or less SEO friendly than any other forum software. Considering it uses almost the exact same permalink rewriting code as WordPress. The bbPress plugin for WordPress will offer custom permalink options and I’ll look into allowing for this.

Is this locally? I have the same issue, but on my webhosts it works fine

oh and relevant trac ticket: https://trac.bbpress.org/ticket/1391
Just tested this with W3 Total Cache and WP Super Cache, and both seem to respond really, really well to the bbPress plugin. W3 Total Cache chops off a bunch of queries and increases load times in all the same ways it does for normal WordPress blog posts and pages, and does a great job of keeping up with post_meta changes when new topics and replies happen.
If you want to optimize your bbPress plugin for WordPress installation, I’d recommend starting with either of those.
i also have trouble integrating wordpress with bbpress. I wonder hough if there’s a really comprehensive guide out there on how do it. I mean a lay man’s guide for non programmers like me.

Thanks. I might go back to this after a few days. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to get this to work, and I pulled the plug and went with Mingle/Mingle Forum. I need to take a break from the whole bbpress/emember/WP combo before I try it again.
The real trouble only started after I installed the integration plugin in WordPress.
Thanks for your quick response time.
Take Care,
Beth

make sure you have the integration plugin on WordPress side.
now if you can see admin link after logging in, its just a cookie issue else you have lost privileges http://blog.ashfame.com/2009/09/fix-lost-admin-access-bbpress/

Hey,
I have currently converted my IP.Board site over to bbPress but having a bit of a design issue.
I am current looking for a way so that on the index page, only one level of sub forums are shown in a row. So basically like this.
Main Forum
– Sub Forum 1, Sub Forum 2
I have found some examples that shows how to list the sub forums like that but I have played about with it and I haven’t been able just to get it to show just one level of sub forums.
My current index code is as follow. I would be very grateful if someone could help me with this.

Thanks.

http://wordpress.elfden.co.uk/forum/ updated – everything cleaned out for everyone to start playing again.
Set permissions on copy of plugin in my plugins. Still no effect. I got rid of the other copies as well.
Another issue I saw is that if you log in on the wordpress site, you have to log in again on the bbpress site. I would have thought they would be pointing to the same cookie after integration. What am I doing wrong here?

Hi,
I’m a first time user of bbPress and I downloaded the plug-in and installed through the WordPress platform. Anyway – when I try to activate the plug-in I get this error:
The plugin does not have a valid header.
And it doesn’t show up in my plug-in list on my Dashboard. Can you help me understand if I’m doing something wrong or need some other plug-in’s to accompany the bbPress to use it properly and have it install correctly? By the way – the plug-in does show that it’s installed on the server in the WP-Content folder under plug-in’s but it still doesn’t show up on the Dashboard under the list of plug-in’s for whatever reason.
Thanks,
-Josh
I am pretty much in the same position as the OP but don’t need to go live for a few more months (March-ish). So I think I’m going to wait a bit. After looking at phpBB, vBulletin, and a few other options, I am going with bbPress because of the way it will integrate with WordPress and BuddyPress which I’ve chosen as the basis for the two sites I’m building.
