Wordpress version: Version 5.4.1
bbPress version: Version 2.6.4
website:riptideio.com
Recently installed bbPress to create forum page. Want to have a sidebar on the forum page for registration/login. Do not have any other sidebars on our website – want the sidebar just on forum page. Installed bbPress WP Tweaks Version 1.4.4 and bbPress sidebar appears on Widgets edit page and I can drag widgets to display there, but it does not show up on the forum page. I’ve been searching forums far and wide for a solution to this and it seems it might be a theme issue but not too sure how to fix that…
Our parent theme is Salient and we have a custom child theme (we originally had a marketing firm create our WordPress site so I’m not too familiar with the themes or how to edit them…)
Any help would be much appreciated!!
for css use
bbp style pack
for your other issues, is the site visible, and can you give a link to an example
I’ve added placeholder to version 4.5.3 of my style pack plugin
bbp style pack
once activated go to
dashboard>settings>bbp style pack>topic/reply form item 11
selection lists would be custom programming well beyond free help I’m afraid.
make forums private to make them visible to users only
use shortcode
[bbp-register]
or anything in WordPress that does registration – bbpress just uses WordPress registration
thanks,
this will add throttle to the participant role
Put this in your child theme’s function file – or use
Code Snippets
add_filter( 'bbp_get_caps_for_role', 'brandi_role_caps_filter', 10, 2 );
function brandi_role_caps_filter( $caps, $role )
{
/* Only filter for roles we are interested in! */
if( $role == 'bbp_participant' )
$caps['throttle'] = true ;
return $caps;
}
Apologies if all the right info isn’t here- new to wordpress. Just installed bbpress on my site. When I view the forum directory at https://www.tallshipsamerica.org/tsaforums/ the theme is consistent with the rest of my site. When I open any of the individual forums (like https://www.tallshipsamerica.org/forums/forum/licensing/) the banner image doesn’t appear and the upper left logo overlaps the forum title. I’m looking to either have the full theme with the image, or at least move the forum title down so it fully shows.

Topics don’t have categories. Forums are quite different from the rest of WordPress, so topics belong to forums, and topics can have topic-tags, but they can’t have categories.
I had the same problem but I was able to solve it.
BBpress controls the number of allowed URLs with WordPress settings.
Open WordPress settings, go to “Discussion”-> “comment moderation” item, and set the upper limit of pending URL.
If you enter a very large value, this problem will never happen again.
This idea was discovered by following in the “bbp_new_topic_handler” function.
The function called the “bbp_check_for_moderation” function, and finally used the “comment_max_links_url” filter to obtain the number of pending URLs.
ps bbpress just uses WordPress login, so they are one and the same, so login for WordPress (and your membership plugin) is login for bbpress.
and for your test user, see what bbpress role has been set in dashboard>users and edit the user, should be participant
I’ve exported a forum from a website, and imported into the new one I’m building. All of the Forums, Topics, and Replies have come across and in the Dashboard it all looks good.
However, on the live page – http://istc.ismysite.co.uk/our-community/discussion-forums/ – it looks like there are no Topics, and when I go into a Forum, it doesn’t show any topics at all.
Looking at them in the Dashboard, all Topics are in the right forums.
I’ve tried disabling this theme (going to the default WordPress Twenty Twenty) but still have the same issue.
Any ideas? I tried some of the reset options but one of them wiped out all the reply > topic links so wary of having to reimport (again).
Hayulp!
bbpress just uses WordPress – so any WordPress registration will be fine – maybe theme my login
Uhm well regarding your hint I found this
Register on Multisite
Seems somewhat odd to me. bbpress claims to be from the developers of WordPress and to be multisite compatible but so far it seems not to be possible to use the registration properly without creating a custom wp-signup.php or using a third party plugin?
Did I get that right?
Hello, I am creating a specialized forum combining wordpress(5.4.1), bbpress(2.6.4) and buddypress(5.2.0). The website is exptoge.com. I have already created child thyme in the wp-content/themes/mytheme folder and used functions.php and style.css to make some customization. Now I need some help to personalize the forum new topic area and new reply area.
1) New topic area, as shown in Fig 1,
(please go to here to check all the figures ).
For every new topic in this forum, I wish the following text appear in the “Topic content edit area” by default: “please clearly describe the place and time duration”. Once the user click in this area to input something, those text will disappear automatically.
The google search box seems exactly demonstrate this effect as shown in Fig.2. Source of Fig 2, captured at chrome://newtab.
2) New reply area, as show in Fig.3.
For every new topic in this forum, I wish some text (e.g. “please select or input your selection” ) appear in the “Reply content edit area” and followed by a drop down selection list (similar to Fig. 4 or Fig.1 below part) by default.
The selection list is composed of two parts. The first is designed to choose a color, red, blue or others. The second is designed to choose a shape, triangle, circle or others.
If the users choose others, a new input box will appear so that they can input their other choice. Text “please input your choice” will appear in the input box with function similar to Fig. 2 (requirements of new topic area above).
After the users make a choice or enter their choice, the choice result will exactly be the reply content. But, the above “please select or input your selection” text will be updated to be “I prefer” texts.
I am not sure whether it is possible to achieve above functions through making modifications in my themes. Anyway, thanks a lot for your time and efforts. You can log in with username “Daniel” and password as “Daniel8” to test “new topic” and “new reply ” function in this website.
so if only instructors to be able to do this, then you need to add ‘thottle’ to their WordPress permission for their role.
what role do instructors have ?
if custom, what creates this role?
If you look here:

It was detected that the URLs in my case were failing bbpnsn plugin. They fixed it.
But it appears that these links are out of my hands.

try adding
bbp style pack
once activated go to
dashboard>settings>bbp style pack>bug fixes and tick the threaded replies box
let me know if this works
I did some thinking around this last night.
Basically bbpress looks for an author ID in the posts table.
Now there’s a hook in the topic/reply handlers (topic for topics, reply for replies, so they mirror) after a topic/reply is created.
do_action( ‘bbp_new_reply_post_extras’, $reply_id );
so if each of your characters has a WordPress user ID, then you could just hook to this, and change the post author to the worpress user ID.
so say
add_action ('bbp_new_reply_post_extras' , 'your function') ;
function your_function ($reply_id) {
$id = [either use the $_POST if still available and maybe have the value as the WordPress user ID , or get_post_meta for d20_character in the reply_id and do a look up to translate value to WordPress user ID]
$my_post = array(
'ID' =>$reply_id,
'post_author' => $id,
);
// Update the post into the database
wp_update_post( $my_post );
}
that way each topic/reply has a real author that happens to be your character chosen in the topic/reply form.
that would save a ton of coding in the output, and risk of missing one and exposing the real user.
it may be that your mail client is chopping emails with multiple recipients
try this
