I already switched to a default theme and it didn’t fix it. And I just did the plugins thing you suggested and it didn’t fix it either – I activated bbpress alone and the problem was still there. I’m going to re-install WordPress now, it’s quite possibly from their newest update, this new version caused me other problems as well
@robin-w I beg to differ a little, the behaviour seems to suggest it is something else going on.
It is only child forums that seem to be having this issue.
If a forum is is set up as a child of a forum (set as type category) the result is a 404 Error.
if that link is broken (the forum has been set to have no parent) then the forum loads.
The permalink doesn’t change ?forum=general query string is the same for both. This is with all plugins disabled and on different themes.
There must be something that works differently code wise between the two.
Seems very odd.
It has also worked quite happily for the last year on default permalinks with the current plugin setup quite happily.
Something has changed the method in the way that it works, either through a bbpress release or WordPress 4.0 release
I’m a newbie to bbpress, and while I think I’m getting there, here’s what I’m trying to create:
-All registered users can create topics and replies
-The home page shows top trending topics by freshness (regardless of forum) using [bbp-topic-index]
-Users are required to select a forum (e.g ‘cars’ or ‘trucks’) when posting topics so that users who want to sort by car or truck may do so
The look I’m going for is the user seeing top 25 topics on home page regardless of forum (cars or trucks) but those users who want to look for car or truck-specific topics can still do so.
Questions:
1) Is this possible? Is there a better way to do this within bbpress?
2) How to set user default to ‘contributor’?
3) How to require forum selection?
Hi, took a while (been checking a lot of backups to pinpoint the moment of the bug appearing). But I could recreate te same by setting up a new site, add a second admin to the site and then installing and activating BackWpup, checking the settings (a nice new column in Users named ‘BackWPup role’, and still all standard roles available on a new user), then installing and activating bbPress and bingo. Only the first admin (or probably the admin who installed bbPress, thats the fitting scenario for the live site) is now Keymaster, for new accounts there are only 4 standard roles available (no admin, only subscriber, writer, author and editor).
Opening All users shows both users are actually Site Role = admin, BackWPup Role = BackWPup Admin and Forum Role only the user installing bbPress is Keymaster.
Then when I open the other user and scroll down to Site Role (named just Role here) IT shows — No role for this site –. Scrolling down shows both the role setting for BackWPup and Forums, with BackWPup defaults to BackWPup Admin (probably because I didn’t configure it yet) and Forum Role = — No role for these forums –.
In our live site I see the following: With bbpress installed, activated, used with some forums and 3 different users, in the user edit view there’s a Role field (limited to the 4 lesser roles), a BackWPup Role and a Forum role.
When we deactivate bbpress the Forum Role is gone, but now the Forum Roles are visible in the Site Role list, next to the aforementioned roles, still lacking the Admin role.
The same happens when deactivating bbpress on my test site.
My site uses bbPress 2.5.4 for forums and topics. New topics can select a forum to be placed in. But when selecting a forum to read the error is Page Not Found.
The issue seems to be when permalinks are set to default (whether plugins are contributing or not I don’t know), but on this other thread we have another two who ‘fixed’ the issue by going away from default permalinks.
I was installing bbPress on my website, using the Tools > Forums > Import forums. It was going okay until it reach converting replies. My forum have 52 600 messages in 18 000 subjects from 1200 users.
– I visited the url mysite.com/forums and I see it well, but at first sights it seems there is no replies at all in every message.
– Here is what I see in the yellow box.
Can you tell me what to do from here ? (as nothing keep going, but the little wheels keeps tuning)
1. Is this the same permalink setting you have always used?
We have used the default permalink structure since the outset about 18 months ago, this has never been changed. Forums have been working for this period with current set up.
2. Have you run any of the repair tools? Can you try running each of them and see if there is a change? (Tools -> Forums)
No, not yet, I will go through and run them now and reply on this forum
I like the site, but you need to make the forum look more like it, color scheme changes instead of the default light blue.
Also the text needs to be a bit more readable, perhaps larger font-size or color.
But I like the site so should be easy to make forum super cool.
Thank you @tobyhawkins! Yes I have gone through that link, and it almost works…
There is a slight caveat: the searches made on private Buddypress group forums do not return results if the user is below the “bbp_moderator” level. All such users see is the dreaded “Oh bother! No topics were found here” message.
My guess is that default bbpress search (which sevenspark’s method also employs) behaviour is currently set to not return results from private Buddypress forums for (say) a “bbp_participant” level user.
The method does however seem to work fine if one is only using sitewide forums and not Buddypress group forums.
Another newbie here. The 404 error happened to me too, immediately after upgrading to WP 4.0.
I took your advice about refreshing the permalink settings and it almost didn’t work. That is, it didn’t work since I hadn’t made any changes.
But then I made a simple (for me) change: I changed the Common Settings from ‘Default’ to ‘Day and name’. That seems to have done the trick, the forum is now working. Note that when I changed it back to ‘Default’ the problem occurred again, so I’ll stick with “Day and name” for now.
Thank you but nope. Still no luck. See eg. http://pupyshevo.hol.es/forums/forum/11/
Maybe some debugging? You can use my credentials on this test site, would be glad to help! Let me know and thanks again for proper support!
Oleg
PS: flushed permalinks with default and then with postname. Also reactivated both bbPress and the plugin. Still believe it isn’t really plugin’s fault, but me doing smth wrong…
Having same issue. Was wondering what was filling up deferred mail log. noreply@www.domain.com. Should not even be sending to/from noreply@ by default.
Im a total newbie and I have the socute theme trying to integrate this code.
I have this “socute child theme” that holds the folders : cache, woocommerce and woocommerce_2.0x.
There are not wp-content/your-theme/bbpress/ in the child theme. So where should I put the file loop-forums.php?
In my socute original theme I find the loop-forums.php in the following folder: wp-content\plugins\bbpress\templates\default\bbpress
Should I remover this file from this place, edit it by removing everything that is already in that file and paste the code that you suggest? And where to put the file afterwards when I dont have the directories you are telling me about?
And one last question:
What should I do with the code written below “RAW Paste Data”?
I really appreciate if some of you please can help me with this total newbie questions. It will help me have a good start with learning this.
Thanks
All the best, Stig
