    Hi all,
I’m asking if it’s possible to change user login interface. I mean, actually users have a login inside wordpress and once they’re logged in they’re logged into wordpress admin interface. I would like to understand if it’s possible to have an external user management interface separated from wordpress administration area.

    Thanks
    Ste

    Hi Robin,

it seems that Stephen had no idea about this.
In the meantime I have heard by John James, that this is not a bug. It would be correct. Replies only ever had titles because WordPress forced all posts to have them until 3.7. I’m confused about that, because at bbpress 2:41 I have reply-titles with WordPress 3.9.

And you had written that your reply-titles are still there and also in the permalink (bbpress 2:54 and twentyten-theme). So I want to ask you to have a second look on it: is it really the REPLY-title in the permalink? Topic-titles I also have in the permalinks, only the replies have no title and the permalink shows only the ID.

My permalinks should contain the post NAME (not the ID) like this:

    mytestblog.de/blog/foren/reply/reply-to-this-is-a-test/

bbpress 2.41 does exactly in this way!
Now – with bbpress 2.5x – the permalink is like this:

    mytestblog.de/blog/foren/reply/140/

140 is the ID of the topic reply.
I would like to have it again that way as it runs under bbpress version 2.41. 🙁

    Why do I want this?
    1. permalink without reply-title, but only with reply-ID is not good for search engines.
    2. if I open a reply-post in the admin area, there is no title “reply to: …. (topic title) …” (the title bar is empty) and I do not know to which post this reply refers. This is not good for handling the forum in practice.

Robin, would you be so kind to look again to see if it really is th REPLY-title, which you have in your permalink? I can also take a screenshot to illustrate where my problem is.

Thank you very much for your help!

    yeah i might have to

but before that im going to contact the developer , because they have this plugin where you can implement it into wordpress comments and im sure that an akismet integration would be a hell of a feature on wordpress comments or other post types.

    It looks like it’s a known issue – I think it’s this:
    https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/15551

I’ve tried everything. Rewriting the query, trying the redirect_canonical filter, whatever. I can’t get it to work.

However why it’s working on one site and not the other? No clue. And omg, it’s now working on the staging version of the live site (it wasn’t before) as well as the dev site. I moved a widget and poof! it works. HOWEVER, moving the same widget on the live site does *not* work.

    Utterly bizarre.

It is of course possible, but would require coding, suggest you hire someone

Also you can export Forums, Topics, and Replies using WordPress Export (Tools -> Export)

You could then export updated topics and replies and import them again into your other install.

The issue of needing to use the a custom importer that you added a comment on in #2605 is to maintain legacy user meta.

I’m not sure how ‘duplicator’ works but if it sync’s the database it should be fine to sync bbPress’ forums, topics and replies as they WordPress ‘Custom Post Types’, topic tags are a taxonomy and users are users.

So presuming Duplicator is copying/replication WordPress’ posts and pages which are stored in wp_posts and wp_postmeta adding support for bbPress should ‘just work’ if Duplicator supports custom post types.

Do Bluehost implement any plugins that override WordPress site or home URL’s?

If your site URL and home URL’s are http://www.example.com I am trying to work out where they are getting box557.bluehost.com from to make that the email address that is being used.

okay so i have found a great post rating plugin

with a simple count , with just vote up and vote down

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/like-dislike-counter-for-posts-pages-and-comments/

heres a picture of how i have my layout

    https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_Ue9ryY5cmYU3BHMDRkNzJsNU0/edit

is it possible that whenever the post count goes down a certain number of times lets say 4 times that i can send data to akismet to recognize the post type (topic or reply) as spam?

Like akismet would react the same as if i clicked the spam link in my bbpress reply admin links?

    just wondering if this possible?

Glad your working, sorry I didn’t get to suggest using a call back earlier 😉

Did try using the included callback_reply_to first?

im working on a good layout that should be great on mobile devices

its pretty much just turning attributes like freshness, posts, voices, and topics into rows instead of columns.

And using topic reply space wisely , and basically turning bbpress replies VISUALLY into a comment system

I might share my template files and css in the future

but i did check out your site and see that your using buddypress too

so you could try this plugin

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddymobile/

I havent tried it yet so i cant really say much about it though.

    Hello!
My bbpress forums is working great except for the forum posts on a small screen mobile device.
I understand where to make the change to the css (@media only screen and (max-width: 240px))
I’m just not sure how to change it.
    My wordpress is: WordPress 3.9.1
    My bbpress is: 2.5.4
    and my website is http://www.fogeyscove.com/fogey-forums/

I also linked to a screen shot showing the issue as well as the css selectors that I need to adjust.

So I was recently given control over my volunteer organizations website after our last webmaster did not follow instructions or help with development.

I’m having some difficulty adjusting to using WordPress, I need to add a Members only forums for the organizations members. the rest of the page needs to be free and open to the public. I will manually add the users in with their emails and assign a generic password that they later can change. I only want them to be able to log into the webpage and not wordpress. I dont want people registering either since it will be done manually.

    this is the website http://mnemshonorguard.org/

Im no good at code reading or changing.

I tried using BBPress but wasn’t getting anywhere at all. looking for help the correct application and step by step guide if at all possible,

    Many Thanks

I cleared all my caches and went to the site and tested the search for hello. It is only turning up “Latest Posts.” I’ve tried this in a few different broswers, logged in and logged out of WordPress…

The screen shot is what I’m seeing. http://awesomescreenshot.com/05430dw20f

    bbpress uses the wordpress function

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/get_avatar

to get the avatar, so you probably need to poke into how wordpress does this.

So where do we put this code, some might ask?: This is a plugin, so we can create a file like /wp-content/plugins/empty-anonymous-replies-in-bbpress/empty-anonymous-replies-‌in-bbpress.php. Then we visit the plugin section in the backend and activate it. This code should also work from the functions.php file in the current theme directory. I hope this helps the users, that aren’t sure what to do with this code.

you make a .php file copying the entire code they published

    or copy after

    /**
     * Plugin Name: Empty Anonymous Replies in BBPress
     * Plugin URI: http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/a/133420/26350
     */

and add that code to functions.php if you hopefully have a child theme

Probably disable wpMandrill for bbPress notifications would be the quickest way and let WordPress’ send the emails as BCC is fully supported.

You can try the following plugin that I whipped up, I have only tested it on a local install and works for me…

    https://gist.github.com/ntwb/d45948672dbf5fd580c9

That said, if you already have custom functions using the wpMandrill mandrill_payload filter in another plugin or functions.php file then updating the relevant section of that for bbPress would be the suggested route. I’m also not sure how this will affect any other templates or custom configurations you may be using either via the wpMandrill plugin config options or any options you have set in your Mandrill API/Setup/Config. (As stated, I’ve only just fired up wpMandrill to have a a quick look for the first time a couple of hours ago)

Onto the biggest issue is that the wpMandrill plugin for WordPress DOES NOT support BCC

Oops! and thanks for catching it. I tested it one bcc address and it worked. So I assumed that it works for all the email address that were sent in bcc.

    Hi there,

I’m looking for a little help and guidance with the transfer of a forum.

We’ve been updating a website which runs a bbpress forum. We’ve developed the new wordpress site on a dummy domain using ‘Duplicator’ to copy the old website over and run the various theme / design updates. Whilst we have been doing this the current website has still be running.

We now need to copy the forum activity which has happened in the last 3 weeks from the current site to update the new design before transferring it all back the live domain.

    Hope this makes sense!

    For clarification we run:-
    Wordpress 3.9.1
    BBPress 2.5.4
    S2Member 140614
    Proper live domain:- lifeafterlondon.com
    Dummy test domain:- lifeafterlondon.co.uk

Onto the biggest issue is that the wpMandrill plugin for WordPress DOES NOT support BCC:

In the help overview of the wpMandrill plugin there is this: (emphasis mine)

Note that if you’re sending additional headers in your emails, the only valid headers are From:, Reply-To:, and X-*:. Bcc: is also valid, but Mandrill will send the blind carbon copy to only the first address, and the remaining will be silently discarded.

I asked Mandrill about this this morning:

Where to next I’m not sure, I’ve only just started to take a look at Mandrill as I’ve never used it before, ideally if the wpMandrill plugin supported the full Mandrill API then using BCC would not be an issue.

With the 30,000+ plugins in the WordPress Plugin Directory bbPress does it’s best to be compatible with as many as we can, sometimes conflicts happen.

It shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes to deactivate your other plugins one by one until you see the bbPress menus active which will then give you the name of the plugin causing the conflict and allow you to re-enable the other plugins you have disabled.

Once you have the name of the plugin we can try to work out why there is a conflict and without the name of the plugin we have no hope of knowing what the issue is.

    @netweb

Yes, I did both. 2618.4.diff would not affect me though. I did verify the email address was correct in the Mandrill dashboard, noreply@connections-pro.com, but they were still being rejected.

I made sure to deactivate two plugins I’m using to make sure they were not inferring just incase they need to be updated to work correctly with the bcc change.

    Those plugins were:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbpress-custom-reply-notifications/
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbpress-new-topic-notifications/

I saw that both @jchristopher and @sudar mention they had to hardcode an email address that wpMandrill knows about. I’m wondering if I need to use one of the new filters to change the noreply address to a real valid address for wpMandrill to send the email without rejecting it. If I could figure out what they did to resolve their issue, but use a filter instead of hard coding it, that seems like it would solve my problem in a update safe way.

For now I’m still using the functions.php file from 2.5.3 (I have 2.5.4 installed).

What I mean by previous method is, in 2.5.4, notifications are sent as a “group” bcc was as in 2.5.3 it was one email per notification (right?).
