Hi Robin W. – just want to say that thank you so much for all the responses and help you give to this community. Super inspiring.

I ended up just uploading the theme and putting up a little dummy content.

The two areas of note I mention, on the front page, http://jockjams.com, you can see below the blog post that what the shortcode out put on my page isn’t styled.

However, if you dig around at http://jockjams.com/forums/ or go to http://jockjams.com/forums/topic/do-the-nets-suck/, these look ok.

Another place where there is an issue is if you go to some of the lists on the profile page:

That is a good example. The list is THERE, you can see it when you inspect the page. Somehow the styling (or lack of) just pushed it way off to the side.

Both of these looked right in twenty fifteen, and I know for sure the shortcode worked on bbPress 2.5.14 from wordpress plugin repository, but not on bbPress 2.6 Release Candidate 5 that I downloaded from this form.

I guess those are all of the details. I would love to know why the styling worked on twenty fifteen, yet it doesn’t work on my theme, while the other two examples above are styled correctly along with my theme and are being properly targetted by bbpress css as well for the list styling.

Thoughts?

I’d still prefer to see the database schema, not data that’s already been parsed.

From what I can see you’ve got various issues with that WXR data:

• <wp:post_type><![CDATA[topic]]></wp:post_type> <- topic shouldn’t be wrapped in ![CDATA[ / ]], I’m not sure if that or any other instances apart from content will be affected by this.

• _wp_page_template shouldn’t be included, if the post_type was page, then yes, but topic post type shouldn’t have a _wp_page_template meta key, again, I’ve no idea what the resultant behaviour of this would be, maybe ok, maybe not.

• You have the following, which is correct: 1327 is the “forum ID”

• Closer to the top of your code you have <wp:post_parent>0</wp:post_parent>, this is where the post_parent should include that 1327 forum id.

I suspect if you can get 1327 into that last item above you’ll be all set, or at least progressed somewhat, I’m pretty sure the repair tools will be able to recalculate the topic meta once that is in, so that’s another option to repair any meta issues.

Also checkout https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2516, the file attached to that ticket is a pretty comprehensive WXR XML file of forum, topics, and replies layed out per the description in that ticket, it might be worth importing into a test site to help visualise the data when looking at the source of the XML file 🙂

Yes after installing bbpress your plugin works, but it is not quite doing what we want.

It has options to migrate all wordpress comments to bbpress but it does not open this migration under the individual posts.

we want the forum to replace the wordpress comment section, meaning the existing comments should be be replaced with bbpress forum under all the relevant post, so that next time the user wants to comment he has to comment using the bbpress box under the posts.

I hope you can arrange this facility in your plugin…then it will be just great!!

Been looking through here for quite a while, am wanting to change the styling of the edit post screen. Currently it’s got a red background *urk* and looks bad. It’s probably inherited from my main theme I don’t know.

Can someone point me where the styling for the post edit screen is. I tried using an editor but it only shows styles that seem to be for main posts.

I don’t think you can obtain this without coding.

A theme is set for the whole of WordPress, including bbPress. So I suppose you would need to have 1 theme, and in that theme depending on the forum you are in, you could have different styles.

I just installed bbPress a few days ago and I see it automatically created this page:

But when you click on it it doesn’t have the actual forum on it. It seems like this should be the main forum page, with all our Categories & Forums listed on that page.

I then watched a tutorial and realized I needed to create a page with the bbpress forum index shortcode. So I did that on the page below and now this page shows all the forums & categories on it.

The issue I still see, however, is that if you’re on one of the forum pages:

Let me check out this plugin, I’ll revert soon with the results and let everyone know whether it fulfills the required purpose of converting existing wordpress comment into bbpress comments.

The download issue was caused by wordpress.org migrated to new servers and a new data centre, and there were a few issues, they have switched back the affected servers I believe and this should be fixed.

I don’t think this is a general question since bbpress states to be compatible with Yoast and Tsf when it is not (at least when it comes to noindex pages) so, imho, it is a BBpress problem.

First of all, for the export/import, consider the v2.6 of bbPress as exporting and importing has been improved. It’s a release candidate but very stable: https://bbpress.org/download/

To export: Tools > Export and select forums, topics and replies
To import: Tools > Import and choose WordPress

But just give you a starting point for e.g. the archives, adding this in your functions.php might help:

Apologies @tesicg, I presumed you were using IIS because Windows 2008 Server R2 😉

Ignore the IIS suggestion I made, you’re using XAMPP so they would be useless.

For translations check your WordPress updates page for any available translation updates, both bbPress 2.5.x (the current release) and upcoming 2.6.x releases are 100% translated into Russian: https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/ru/default/wp-plugins/bbpress

There might have been a fix for “port conflicts” in the upcoming bbPress 2.6, could you try that and see if it is fixed please? https://bbpress.org/download/

If 2.6 doesn’t fix it could you add details on whats different between your 2008 Server and Windows 7 install, strange that XAMPP works on one and not the other

– You can open your forum to everybody, so they do not need to create a login (see the settings in your wp-admin: Réglages > Discussion
– Yes and no. The theme that you choose for WordPress is the team used for bbPress. However you can restyle the CSS yourself or use a plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbp-style-pack/
– Everything is saved in the standard WordPress style: so like a custom post type
– bbPress is a plugin, so just install it and you will see it pop up in your menu: Forums, Topics, replies.
