Good afternoon, I am having an issue with migrating from vBulletin. Even if I don’t change anything in the script settings, including not entering the database password, it gets stuck on step 1 for two days. Of course, I tried entering all the necessary data, but that did not help. I also tried downgrading the PHP version from 8 to 7, but that also didn’t work. It just stays stuck on step 1.
There are no errors in the logs either. Perhaps there is a separate migration script log, but I couldn’t find it. I am asking for help.
since the the documentation says that vBulletin v4.x is the only supported version for the import tool, then why there’s “vBulletin3” option in the tool?
Hi. I am not sure if I have already posted here. My name is Pascal, and I am from a small town called Wohlen in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland.
My problem is that I have a vBulletin 5.x SQL database I converted from a vBulletin 3.x database dump. How do I best go about importing it into bbPress on my forum over at ? It will be read-only, and I want to add a forum section on top of it as my actual forum (all this in one forum, I don’t want to set up two forums).
Thank you for any help.
I imported all forums from vBulletin to bbPress a couple days ago and now moderating it. Maybe import could cause this?
Hi, $usernames I’m trying to import vBulletin forum using built-in import tool.
Everything went well, but on 8th step it stuck. I tried to start it again from this point, but nothing happens.
It stuck on “Converting Authors of Anonymous Topics” (from 100 to 100 out of 100) 100%
And so already 2 hours.
I’m asking for your help.
Best regards,
Ivan.

I migrated a forum from vbulletin but now the customized smileys do not appear but I only see their code such as the writing: cgrd: or: by2:, how can I connect their codes to the smileys that I upload in ftp?
Thank
I’m migrating a forum from vbulletin to bbpress, after a lot of tests I managed to get everything working but the images of the old forum and the emoticons are transferred to the root ex: mysite.it/smile.gif
Do you know a way to set a specific folder or at least the folder where I am in vbulletin?
Thank you
I also noticed that if I marry a topic, the counters do not change and it remains counted in the old Forum and not in the New.
If you want by email I will send you the data of my site (closed) so you can check.
I was then able to import from vbulletin to bbpress. As soon as I have time I will write how I have done that will be of use to many.
I imported a forum from vbulletin to bbpress. The Topis are all important and if I go to “View” from the administration I see them correctly and they also have the right category but if I go to see the forum category no Topics is displayed.
How can I do?
Thank you
Anyone who can answer me? from Vbulletin 4 to bbpress reloads me infinitely step 8!
How can I disable step 8?
i also have this problem but with vbulletin 4
I tried in every way but I couldn’t …
I have a large vbulletin forum that is no longer online that I would like to get back online and switch to bbpress.
On-line I have found various articles that suggest switching first to phpbb and then to bbpress but nothing seems to work.
I also found 2 sites that offer paid migration but the figure is very high.
Is there anyone who could help me?
I can also pay for something but since it is a forum that will have very few users, I cannot give much.
Thanks
I mean running the script through the shell console on the server.
I am not sure that it is working correctly via the WordPress administration panel.

Ok, found, I see that the forum doesn’t need to be online but only the database is online, this is perfect.
There are only vbulletin and vubulletin3 on the menu.
The forum I have is done with vbulletin version 4.2.2, so what should I select?
Thanks
vBulletin
I found this guide there is no written how to do it …

Hello,
I’m looking for a forum software for my site, but none on the market seems to be satisfying!
It seems forum software has peaked with vBulletin 3.6, 12 or more years ago! How come nothing seems to beat a piece of software that is 12 years old?! Many of the top forums that use vBulletin 3.6 don’t want to upgrade, simply because there isn’t anything better, anywhere.
(here is an example of typical vB 3.6 forum: https://onlineacademy.com/)
My question/suggestion: Why can’t BBPress (or anyone else for that matter) match the design and functionalities and design of vBulletin of 12 years ago?
BBPress should do whatever it takes to reach that level, then we will be ready to pay!! There is a huge need out for a modern forum software! Plenty of people are stuck with their vB 3.6, simply because there isn’t anything better…
I know this is an old thread but were you able to find something better than vBulletin 3.6? I’m looking to start a new forum myself and I found this thread while researching for the best forum software. Every other forum out there uses the same software and they all look the same. I want to build something that functions differently and looks better.
Let me know!

Continuing the troubleshooting here in case someone has an idea. Upgraded vBulletin to 4.2.5; can’t access the site directly anymore but the database is still fine. Tried to do the bbPress import once more fresh and it hangs still at “Doing Step 6” with No forum subscriptions to import. The debug is a little differnt now though:

I’m trying to import an old vBulletin (3.8.3) forum to a new bbPress (2.5.14) setupon WordPress 5.1.1 and the initial import looks great. It imports the users (~13k) says something about deleting their WordPress password, then a moment later it seems to hang and no matter how long I leave it we never progress.
Calculating forum hierarchy (0 - 99)
Converting forums (0 - 99)
Delete users WordPress default passwords (12700 - 12799)
Delete users WordPress default passwords (12600 - 12699)
Delete users WordPress default passwords (12500 - 12599)
Delete users WordPress default passwords (12400 - 12499)
Delete users WordPress default passwords (12300 - 12399)
Looking at the forum sections shows that it’s created the 22 forums and correctly set some of them as categories, they also show how many topics and replies are in each one correctly –
— Random Thoughts - Topics: 3,119 Replies: 54,698
But only 27 topics across the entire forum are imported. It’s the same 27 topics every time as well. To the point that if I stop the import, and hit the start button again, it imports these same 27 topics once more now showing 54. Is there an error log I can find that might show me why it’s hanging up? The bit above with the Calculating Hierarchy is the last update I ever get in the window. I added the lines to turn on debug logging in WordPress but nothing every shows up.
define( 'WP_DEBUG', true ); // turn on debug mode
if ( defined( 'WP_DEBUG' ) && WP_DEBUG ) {
define( 'WP_DEBUG_LOG', true ); // log to wp-content/debug.log
}
Hi, I imported a vbulletin forum into bbpress.
When I do the repair, I get a blank page for these 2:
– Recalculate the position of each re-entry
– Reset existing users to default forum rules
I tried again and again, always the same result.
How can I solve?
Thanks!
