I already searched this forum and quite a few people had a similar problem about 6 months ago. My case is a bit different though.
I’m running the latest version of bbPress on the latest version of WordPress.
The created forums are all open and public.
When I as an admin user create new topics in any forum, I get the following result on any of these forum pages:
> This forum contains X topics, and was last updated by Admin Y hour,
> Z minutes ago.
>
> Oh bother! No topics were found here!
The topics list simply does not show up for me as a creator of these topics. When logged in as a subscriber, everything shows fine though.
My list of plugins is:
bbPress, Black Studio TinyMCE Widget, Manage Upload Types, Polylang, User Access Manager, WordPress HTTPS, wp-jquery-lightbox, wpsc Support Tickets, WP SlimStat
The used theme is:
EvoLve by Theme4Press
I’d love this feature too. Our forum is coming from phpBB and the unread posts is dearly missed. Where can I donate to support this plugin/update? Where is the download of the plugin in progress? I’d be happy to donate and test if it’s of any help.
I am using Salutation as well as of 9/2012, maybe it’s a theme problem? But they always just say it’s a bbPress or Buddypress problem.
I’m using BuddyPress Version 1.6.1 and bbPress Version 2.1.2 I am using Sitewide Forums
I can create Groups and Topics but the Topics don’t appear on the site. What’s strange is it shows the count of Topics in the Forum and is putting the occupied space in the layout but they are not displayed.

If anyone can help me figure it out I’d be very grateful.
Also, the Search box for the Forums and the Order by: Dropdown menu when used don’t display any results when I know there should be items listed there.
Any Ideas?
Travel to last unread reply is “must have” feature. I dont think some special arrow is needed, the old 1.x bbpress plugin worked so, that in latest topics page you see unread topics in different collor and when you entered that topic, it automaticaly bring you to last unread post in that topic. It was simple and perfect.

Thanks Pippin, can’t wait to test it!
Is there also the possibility of having a link next to to the topic title, like an arrow, so when you click on the arrow it will send you to the last reply that you haven’t read in that topic?
Downloaded the latest version of code.
-“Mark all as read” works fine, tried for 439 topics at once, worked fast.
-“Unread forum topics” under profile seams to be working (initially I had case when new topics did not appeared as unread, but I was not able to repeat and catch exact case how I got it)
One remark – when user registers new topic or reply and do not wait 10 seconds his own topic appear as unread. Would be good to mark those immediately as read.
I’m running the latest version of WordPress and bbPress (forget to mention that, sorry)
Hello Pippin,
I haven’t had time to test this yet, but am following along on the comments and it brought something to mind. I ended up not being able to use another one of your plugins (the Mark as Read for posts) because longtime members would have had something like two hundred “unread” posts since the implementation of the plugin in was new.
Will this have the same drawback, or will there be a “mark All as read” option so everyone who has been keeping up can start fresh?
Just tried (twice) to install bbPress (latest version into WP 3.4.2. After the install, the site is there, but the admin screen \wp-admin) returns no data at all. The only way to recover was to delete folder and begin again. Have done this TWICE now. Bluehost, WP was installed through Fantastico.
The plug-in appeared in the list of available plug-ins, I clicked on activate, screen went white, and could not access admin after that. Checked from my iPhone and iPad, same issue…
HELP!!!!!

Cool, thanks for testing it 🙂
This one works as expected -> “version with some ajax that will automatically mark topics as read after you have viewed them for at least 10 seconds”
I`m using “Response” theme. bbpress 2.1.2
With latest commit, started to apear something under users profile “Unread Forum Topics Viewing 30 topics – 1 through 30 (of 436 total)” Its already late, will try to play a bit tomorrow if have time.
By the way, maybe you can suggest theme what to use to have proper components?

Yes, topics remember Mark as Read/Unread link usage. Will download latest version…
Alright, I have an initial version done and ready for anyone who wants to test it. Just download it from Github (it will be on the repo shortly).
It will add a Mark as Read/Unread link next to the Subscribe/Unsubscribe links on topics.
You can also view a list of all unread topics by going to your bbPress profile, in the same way you would view favorites or subscribed topics.

A few things I have left to do:
- Auto mark a topic as read when replying
- Auto marking a topic as read once on the page for more than a few seconds
- Create a widget to show unread topics
Anything else?

> Integrated comments between the forum and the comment field of posts.
You mean WP Post comments integrated with bbPress forums? I hope that’s not a deal breaker because as far as I know, either someone has still to create a plugin that can do that and release it OR you have to code it OR you have to hire a developer to make the plugin for you.
re #1 – bbPress is responsive but needs some more tweaking https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/1933
re #2 – like the left or right column at http://testbp.org/discussion/
re #3 – hmm, haven’t seen a plugin like that, but it could be done
re #4 – Nothing is perfect in this world. bbPress works all right out of the box. So unless you have a private community, then just like many forum scripts out there, you’d need some anti-spam plugins or better yet, an active community which tags spams so admin/keymaster or moderators can delete such posts and/or members
re #5 – yes, easy to use
I installed bbPress at EndlessLift.com.
When I go to /forums it doesn’t have any links to do anything. No “Register” no “Login”. How are my users supposed to know what to do?
I found a Widget so I could have some links in the sidebar. When I click the links in the sidebar you can see my test content. But no links to do things like register.
What am I doing wrong?
I’m having having the freakiest issue. Basically, I’ve got an Multisite network running BuddyPress and a separate (non bp) install of bbPress. I’m the super-admin.
I noticed that my role on the main site had been set to Forum User or some such, so I changed it back to Administrator because other plug-ins needed me to be a super-admin in order for them to work properly. Fine, so I’m working away and someone asks me a question on the forum. I answer it and bam! Things stop working again. (??)
I go back and check and sure enough, I’m a forum user again.
I want to use the forum, but i don’t want to be a Forum User. If this a bug or did I mess something up?
Thanx for any info you can provide.
I’m running the latest version of everything (WP, BP, and BB) on CentOS and a bunch of other junk.
🙂
WordPress 3.4.2 / bbPress 2.1.2 / site: bit.ly/OVo94w
Have never used bbPress before so bear with me.
The main problem is all non-admin/author/etc users (including public) cannot see any of the posts (confirmed with a test account as both a basic and paid user). Anybody that’s not a user essentially can see the posts though. Can provide screenshots or test logins if needed.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, after a WordPress update, a cropped version of the main logo for the site started showing up on the forum index after ‘Forums by’.
There also seems to be an issue with public visibility of all the forums on the index (have checked permissions/etc). They all show up to a logged in user but only 2 of them show up for a non-registered/public user and bots indexing the site.
Have tried a number of things so far that i have found in other topics here: Disabling Akismet (and a number of other plugins to see if there are any conflicts), Deactivating and Reactivating bbPress, deleting and re-creating the forums, and more.
At this point I am a little lost, and not sure how to fix these and really would like to avoiding having to completely re-install bbPress/Wordpress.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Yeah well I deactivated all the oher plugins (only two of em anyway) and it still does it. I also tried it locally on my test machine, same versions of everything and same result. So I can rule out memory or plugin conflicts at least.
Really annoying, what’s the point of having the older versions for download then if it’s not really supposed to work with them? The page even gives you a ‘will it/won’t it work with…x version’ drop down to see if it’s compatible.
Is it possibly a server config issue?
I am also getting this error:
Error: Are you sure you wanted to do that? New install, no bbpress files changed
and their fix was to move from a godaddy test server to a real domain…..
It’s ok 🙂
My site was on a godaddy test server. I have moved it to final domain/server now and all is working well 🙂
Hello,
in my test website I use WordPress 3.4.1, bbPress 2.1.2, permalink set to /%postname%/ and a handful of plugins which I have deactivated to avoid conflicts.
Basically when I try to submit a topic or a reply from the frontend, as a subscriber, I get the ‘white page’. The topic/reply is created, as admin I can edit it from the backend, but it doesn’t have the permalink and the edit permalink button. Also, the topic/reply is counted but it is shown in the corresponding frontend lists (obviously clicking on it gives a 404-page not found) only if I’m NOT logged in as admin.
If I write a topic/reply from the frontend while logged in as admin, I don’t get the white screen but still the topic/reply is created whithout permalink.
If I add as admin a topic/reply from the backend then the permalink is created and everything works. Also the topics/replies added from the backend are the only topics/replies that are shown in the frontend list while logged in as admin.
Thanks a lot!
Best regards
thanks! that s really helpfull.
Can i find somewhere php code also to insert it directly to my template?
@Lynq:
Thanks for the tip!
Never saw the “Forum Search” here – nice but not what I really want.
That would mean 6 searches (because we have 6 forums here currently) plus using the additional “Reply Search” if I am in a long (single) topic thread…
Also, both search boxes are only visible at second or third sight, better would be the occasional search box at the top or so…
And if we are already on topic: just implement a proper search in bbPress core, that’s what the users want. Every user that asked me for any bbPress 2.x help wanted a proper forum search. Everyone. Period. So there’s really a need for that. (I’d love to drop my search widget plugin ASAP!!!)
One could find some information, yes, but it’s really ineffective and NOT how it should be as an native implementation.
A proper full text search over the complete forum – and an extra search over the Codex here – or both combined would be of greatest usefulness for all users here I guess!
If it’s not possible just implement a proper Google Custom Search (already on WordPress.org…) — maybe I am doing just that for myself: setting up another Google Custom Search because the current situation does just not satisfy me (and don’t fits to this community here IMHO).
Thanks, Dave 🙂
Hi all, have just finished installing bbpress on a website. Got everything set up and ready to go, site was meant to go online today. Went to test forum and add first sticky post. Upon clicking ‘submit’ it comes back saying ‘Error: Are you sure you wanted to do that?’ in a pink box. I haven’t changed any bbpress files except bhp-common-template, changed forum base breadcrumb to point to my own page. Thats it! Any idea’s? I’ve also added forum pages to custom post types so I can add my theme options. Might that do anything? Using latest bbpress, compatability theme, and InFocus by MySiteMyWay as my theme.
Edit: Have removed custom post types and tested, no different. Created new forums and tested, no different. Tested with forum profile and a site admin profile, no different. Also tested with different browsers, doesn’t work 🙁
