This will be the last look* at the incredible growth and diversity of

bbPress adoption around the world over the past several years.

This list does not include most of the 1000+ or so BuddyPress installations

that use bbPress to power sub-forums for their groups. This is for technical

reasons, not political – it’s virtually impossible to analyze bbPress under

BuddyPress because of how it’s filtered and blocked. If you have a large

bbPress installation under BuddyPress and you are not in the current list,

contact me for a way to be included if your site would fall in the top 1,000.

*The upcoming rewrite of bbPress will make this kind of third-party analysis

extremely difficult but also unneccesary since it will start to “phone home”

as part of WordPress to Automattic on a daily basis from your server

with all your details, configuration and install information anyway.

Hi, I just set up bbpress for my department in my school. We want to make a closed forum for just the teachers to post and comment on. Is there a way that I can prevent others from joining this forum? Basically, can I deactivate registration after every member I want has registered?

Also is there a way for members to join only by email invite?

oh, p.s.p.s.: As part of this dream, I always imagined it possible to, if you opted to, comment to any post within a thread as if its a blogpost, i.e. a small threaded comment the likes of which you see on Stackoverflow.

I really like this concept, as it enables dynamic conversations without easily getting off topic. I’m not one for “points systems” for any sort of thing; I prefer real human interaction. And that’s why it’d be great for me when someone posts a very comprehensive bug report to make a threaded comment giving feedback on how well detailed this report was, while the next post can still stay on topic about the contents of the report by replying with an ordinary post instead of a comment.

Matt and I have shared a similar dream for allowing blog posts to either act as or create their own dedicated forums, allowing for dedicated topics and branched discussions about those blog posts.

I’m very excited to hear you say that, as I have had that same dream myself for years on end, yet all the major forum softwares I kept tabs on never seemed to innovate past the traditional, strictly linear model.

The problem was wp-Super-Cache plugin.

You should force your forum not to be cached. otherwise forum will appear blank.

I did a search for this, really didn’t find much. But I’m wondering if there are any compatibility issues with using BBPM with other plugins.

Forum I moderate, the admin went ahead and tried installing the BBPM plugin but it produced a “failed to activate plugin: fatal error” he thinks it may be either our custom theme or the plugins interfering with the BBPM plugin.

Have there been any reported-known issues with plugins side by side with BBPM.

I believe this is just a standard bbPress install with tweaks for the plugin repo and the rest of the pages.

I don’t know if WordPress is intergrated.

Forgive my ignorance, but how do I download all the files from http://svn.automattic.com/bbpress/trunk/ at once? In my browser they all appear as a bunch of individual links. Do I need to FTP into this address or something?

Thanks jpbruckler, that works beautifully. The user doesn’t see a thing.

(The only problem I could for see is if a user was logging in through the wordpress side of things they would be redirected to bbpress, but this won’t be a problem for me.)
