In case anyone else is looking for the answer to this, the delightful Pippin directed me to a free plugin that works with Restrict Content Pro to allow this: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/restrict-content-pro-bbpress/

    Hey,

I’m running Version 3.4.2 of WordPress, with Version 2.1.2 of bbPress.
When I’m logged into the site as a Forum Participant, I can see the forums and topics, but when I actually click on the topics to view the content (i.e. the actual topic post and replies), all that appears is “This topic contains 0 replies, has 1 voice, and was last updated by…” as well as the “Reply” form underneath that. The actual posts and replies don’t appear.

However, when I’m logged in as an administrator, I am able to see everything (it all functions normally).

Do you know why a normal forum user can’t see posts and replies? How can I go about fixing the issue?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Cheers,
    Laura.

    Hi all,

    I use:

    • WordPress 3.4.2
    • bbpress 2.1.2
    • qtranslate 2.5.32
    • qtranslate extention 0.1.1

All works fine in the blog part but in the bbpress forum I have a little problem.

Topics links are well presented in the correct langue of my bbpress forum but the content of a topic contains all the language text versions, one following the other, in place of only the current language text.

Sample: french and english version are presented together:

J’aime mon blog. I like my blog.

    in place of :

French version : J’aime mon blog

English version : I like my blog

    Any ideas ?

Thanks a lot for your help

ctekmusic – I found a way. This plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/add-new-default-avatar/ worked for me! 😉

Export the database but don’t import it into your WordPress database you are going to use, import the phpBB database is its own separate database as once the data is imported you will be able to remove/delete that database as it will no longer be needed (just make sure you do keep a backup).

Other than that it looks like you are good to go.

This option I am pretty sure will not work in the way during the import that the topics and replies are matched to user ID’s, essentially during the import bbPress can not match the vBulletin (or any other forum) UserID to an existing WordPress user.

As for the other side of things I haven’t tried to do what you are trying to do with MultiSite though a quick test install locally to give it a run through different scenarios would be the best bet to see what the outcome is.

    Hi

I can’t say what the best approach is but here’s what works for me.

I mainly wanted all my users on site 6 but I thought it would be good if they were members on all sites in case I added community features into the other 5 sites.

I ended up using this plugin Multisite User Management. Whenever you add a new user it will add it to as many of your sites as you like. Been using it for ages with no complaints, one of my favourite plugins.

    Hope this helps

Hi. All the info you need is here: Theme Compatability

The basics are that you need to make a wordpress theme with bbPress support, so try to think of it as a wordpress theme not a bbPress theme.

bbPress is very flexible and you can theme it in multiple ways, the best starting point is that link I provided.

    Hope this helps

    I’ve setup WordPress multisite.

Using the built in importer from vbulletin (which works great), I am curious, my forums are going to be on site #2, not my primary install site.

So if I do this, run the importer, and import all users/posts from vbulletin, the users are then added to site #2, or both site #1 and #2? (site #1 is root site)

    Or:
Am I better off, this sounds stupid, importing the users/forums from vb into my root site #1, then erasing the forums/topics/replies, keeping the users, and then going to site #2 and doing a forum only import?

    Goal:
Obviously I need users to be able to login to site#2, but would also like to make sure all users are able to login to the parent ‘global’ site #1.

    How should I proceed?

Hi, I have multisite installation of wordpress with two sites.
I want to share the same forum between the tow sites.
But for each site bbpress save the forum in his own wp_2_post table and wp_3_post table.
I would like to save the data in the same table for both sites.
    How to do it?

    Hello Chris,

Thanks for your reply. I do know where the CSS is located but I can’t find the exact entry for the links (even with Chrome). When I load the compat theme it does get the proper link colours from the main wordpress theme but the whole lay-out is ***** up then 😛

Here it the link (with the twentyten loaded):

I don’t think you have to wait for integration. The plugin Pippin wrote works perfectly. If, in future it’s fully integrated into the bbPress plugin for WordPress, then we can drop the extra plugin, but this works great! I wouldn’t wait for integration.

p.s. This plugin is worth supporting & I appreciate your work, Pippin. Hope many people have donated to your time spent on this. I wish I could give more. Thanks again!

Hi you may have to edit your template to add login buttons/form but here’s what you can use for social login:

This plugin handles logins across many social networks Social Login, Sharing & Commenting

    or

This plugin only deals with facebook but totally free and unrestricted WP-FB-AutoConnect

I cannot reproduce this with a couple of sites I have.

Can you go to your WordPress Dashboard -> Tools -> Forums -> Repair Forums

Run the repair tool to ‘Recalculate private and hidden forums’ and see if that fixes your issue .

(It would also be a good idea to run the rest of those tools to ensure all the forums/topics/replies are in sync).

I would suggest trying https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-search-widget/ as it is actively being developed.

Hi all first post here, here is my issue:

If I create a new blog post in wordpress with an oEmbed link on the first line e.g. youtube, the widget appears and works correctly in both the single post page and in the BuddyPress activity.

But when I create a new forum topic/reply with the first line as a youtube link and some text below it will work in the forum view but in buddypress activity there is only the text present. No widget or even a fallback link.

I don’t know if this is a bug or I am just missing the bigger picture but our site depends quite heavily on oEmbed now since it is an easy way to get widgets into the activity stream.

    Thanks for any help

    Hi,

I have bbpress plugin in a WordPress 3.4.2 MU site, with a single instance in the root and /forums. I have a very basic child theme of TwentyEleven which makes some header and CSS tweaks.

Once I activated BBPress, I found that it is displayed using the sidebar. This crushes the forum to the left, so I wanted to get rid of it for the forum page. I read that by default BBPress will use the page.php from the TwentyEleven theme, and to copy that to my child theme, remove the call to the sidebar and name it bbpress.php would override it. Well, for a start, the TwentyEleven page.php does NOT contain the sidebar. After searching the filesystem I found that sidebar-page.php does, so I copied that to my child theme folder and named it bbpress.php, removed the get_sidebar() call, and also set the template name as Template Name: Forum Template in the bbpress.php file.

It did not work. My forum is still showing a sidebar. It does not seem to be using the bbpress.php file at all.

Is there a guide somewhere on how to get BBPress to display without the sidebar when using MU and a child theme of TwentyEleven?

As I said, my child theme if very simple. It is literally a header.php and styles.css, and I have now added bbpress.php. What do I need to do to get BBPress to use my bbpress.php template?

Can I add that a LOT of the helpful-looking links on here lead to 404 pages, which really hasn’t helped in trying to figure this out. It would be great if those could be fixed up somehow?

    Thanks!

I am using Search bbPress https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search-bbpress/. Initially, I didn’t post it on there because there is a total of 5 topics their entire shelf life with one resolution (resolved by the same user who created it). But I did just submit it there because I’m not entirely sure if it’s bbPress’s engine or the plugin.

I guess I’m trying to figure out if it’s a matter of how it’s finding the results, how it’s displaying the results, or how bbPress stores them. I assume it’s probably not bbPress itself at this point.

    In reply to: Notifications

Search “bbPress moderation” on the WordPress.org plugin repo – there are some plugins that will help moderate and deal with email notifications.

Currently in bbPress 2.1.x there is no support to have specific moderators on specific forums, etc. However, this is in the works for 2.2, so this functionality will arrive this year.

I’ve done a bit of research on the current state of Syntax Highlighter support in bbPress 2. These are my findings thus far:

The “official” syntax highlighter plugin, Syntax Highlighter Evolved, does not yet support bbPress, and unfortunately the plugin does not seem to be well supported any longer. I still put a request in:

The best option available at the moment appears to be the Crayon Syntax Highlighter.

Do note that at the time of writing, there appears to be a slight hickup with the WP backend upon activating Crayon with bbPress already installed, so you might want to wait for the patch. But other than that the plugin seems to be working marvelously, it’s packed with features and the developer is actively supporting it.

Alternatively, for the WP-Markdown users, there’s an enhancement available for those who prefer Gorbatchev’s highlighter over Prettify.js (might wanna try that on this forum).

TinyMCE has its own plugins: TinyMCE plugins. How can one use them in BBpress?

    Thanks!
    Martin

p.s. What version of TinyMCE does BBpress/Wordpress use?
