    Topic: Adsense Plugin

Hi all, just a quick post to plug my new advert unit plugin. It’s a common idea but I couldn’t see a bbpress 2 version so thought I’d have a go. The plugin allows you to insert an advert unit into your threads. Currently the ad will appear after the first post, and can optionally be hidden from logged in users.

I have a few ideas on how to improve it and tidy it up, but happy to consider other requests time permitting.

You can download it from WP here.

Would love to hear from anyone using it and see it running on other sites…

Same here. Fresh install of WordPress, added the bbPress plugin, created a Forum called “Discussion”, tried to visit mywebsite.com/forums/forum/discussion… Nothing. I kinda expected at least something to work out of the box.

I had this problem – only happening to non-admin users and mainly in IE – and I found these threads helpful:

    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6752773/the-webpage-cannot-be-found-http-404-randomly-and-only-in-ie9-windows-7

    http://serverfault.com/questions/251673/getting-404s-on-wordpress-site-but-only-from-ie-with-friendly-error-messages-tu

The workaround to set the status header manually to 200 worked on my site (though at some point I should work out what it is in the theme that’s causing it and fix it properly).

Jeffvand: There are a few plugins that allow you to pull in and show custom Sidebars. Two Examples:

These work with Custom Types Ie it recognises the Forums and You can select for them to have their own sidebar:

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/custom-sidebars/
    But I prefer
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/content-aware-sidebars/

    Hope this helps.

I too want to remove the sidebar completly. What part of the CSS would I need to remove. Could you send some more detailed instructions of what code and in what CSS files I need to remove. It is only on Forum pages I want to remvoe sidebars.
    Thanks

When importing from bbpress 1.x to 2.2 I have this error:

WordPress database error: [Unknown column ‘topics.topic_first_post_id’ in ‘where clause’]
    SELECT convert(topics.topic_id USING “utf8”) AS topic_id,convert(topics.forum_id USING “utf8”) AS forum_id,convert(topics.topic_poster USING “utf8”) AS topic_poster,convert(posts.post_text USING “utf8”) AS post_text,convert(topics.topic_title USING “utf8”) AS topic_title,convert(topics.topic_time USING “utf8”) AS topic_time FROM bb_topics AS topics INNER JOIN bb_posts AS posts USING (topic_id) WHERE posts.post_id = topics.topic_first_post_id LIMIT 950, 50

    Converting topics (900 – 949)

The bbPress Plugin v2.x uses the same database as WordPress.

Having better control over the sidebar in bbPress is a very common request and there is even a trac ticket for it.

Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to handle this automatically. Each theme/framework handles the placement of the sidebar differently, so we can’t bbPress (or a plugin) can’t simply say “don’t show the sidebar” – it’s going to require modifications to your theme.

For those of you who want control over your sidebar, are flexible with theme you are using, and are not comfortable editing your current theme, there is another solution out there.

I created a plugin for sites running on the Genesis Framework called bbPress Genesis Extend. This plugin primarily builds in bbPress compatibility for the Genesis Framework, however it also ads in a few handy extra features – namely full sidebar control.

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-genesis-extend/screenshots/

If you use the Genesis Framework and this plugin, it allows you to choose what layout you want to use on bbPress pages (full width page, content-sidebar, sidebar-content, etc). Additionally it also has the option to create a dedicated sidebar for bbPress pages, which would allow you to use bbPress widgets on the bbPress portion of your site.

Hopefully as bbPress becomes more popular, other themes and frameworks will build in similar features which will give site administrators control over the layout/sidebar without having to touch any of the code in your theme.

    Hi,

I’ve just started using the Recent Replies widget but the replies are shown in reverse order. So the oldest 5 instead of the newest 5. Any ideas where this goes wrong?

I am using WordPress 3.4.2. and BBPress 2.1.2. It’s on a Intranet site so i am unable to include the link to the page.

    Thnx for any help,

    Robert

I’m trying to upgrade a huge bbpress db which until recently we’ve had running on v.0.9. I’ve stepped through the upgrade path of installing v.1 then upgrading to the latest release but when trying to upgrade my database the script always hangs. There doesn’t seem to be a pattern to where it does this (sometimes it processes other times it gets stuck at ‘Starting Conversion’).

I’ve tried running this both on the remote server and setting up the site locally to see if I could get the upgrade done locally before porting to the live server but with no joy.

Is there any other way to upgrade the database except for the bundled converter tool within WordPress? Does anyone have any advice as to how I might be able to achieve this?

    Any help much appreciated!

I’ve installed bbpress via Buddypress, by adding the sitewide forums.
I’ve also installed the plugin Vote-it-up.

To use this plugin, i need to edit some of the bbpress files. I need to find the file that lists all the topics and the single forum topic file.

I am using the Standard buddypress theme, but how can I access the bbpress files?

    Versions:
    Wordpress: 3.4.2
    bbpress: 2.1.2
    buddypress: 1.6.1

    bbpress version: 2.2-bleeding

When I click Edit post the edit post page appears but it hasn’t anything to edit. The post doesn’t appear and therefor I cant edit the post.

    Does anyone know why?

Hi all. I am using bbPress 2.0.2 as a plugin with WordPress 3.3.1 The theme is Twenty Ten 1.3. bbPress pagination parameters: 15 topics per page, 15 replies per page. The problem: there is the biggest theme in our forum – http://chistyekluchi.org/?topic=вопросы-по-дорогам 136 replies. Every page link (1, 2, 3 etc.) works fine, only link to page 10 is broken. But 10th page is accessible by entering to the address bar: http://chistyekluchi.org/?topic=вопросы-по-дорогам&paged=10

Thank you very much in advance for answering

Sorry this doesnt address your issue. But im interested in your last paragraph. I also want to make the forums to not have a sidebar, Can you explain how you did this?

Although at another read, was it just copyng the WordPress themes into the BBPress themes folder and is this what caused your problem?
    Thanks

After some more work, we are now wondering if this has to do with our use of the old bbpress/wordpress integration plugin for user accounts. Does that sound likely? Has anyone else run into this?

Since there’s no Advanced (or similar) Forum I guess I’m supposed to post it here.

I already asked my question here: http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/66098/only-display-forums-with-specific-taxonomy-bbpress#comment87342_66098 but apparently not much of the bbPress community hangs there.

Apparently my real question in that ticket wasn’t explicit enough so I’ll try to formulate it as clear as possible:

I’m working on an extranet for my company. I’ve added a filter to the WP core query to only show CPT’s with a specific term added to it (from my Client taxonomy, it’s the client’s user nicename). The thing is: this filter doesn’t work for bbPress forums.

I want to add a separate forum per project (ie Client X with Project Y) and clients are only allowed to see the forums that have their specific term attached (so Client X can only view the Client X forums). Unfortunately bbPress still shows all forums on the Forums page and that’s what I need to filter.

I’m sure there is a way to accomplish this, so I’m hoping someone here can push me in the right direction.

    Hey guys,

I’m using the most recent buddypress and a dating plugin and I’m really having trouble here updating my WordPress Dating Plugin. I know it’s kind of off topic but I was wondering if anyone was using this and knew how to update it using FTP. I’ve uploaded my files and I’m supposed to copy them to the folder that is on my desktop. Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

I have a WordPress site (3.4.2) which uses a premium theme that I want to keep. I just activated the BBPress plugin (ver 2.1.2) and created a forum and topic etc. The forum and topic pages appear and look ok, but I would like to customize the template and css that is being used in this. I am finding BBP documentation on this somewhat confusing.

My Plan: I will create my own BBP template based on page.php from my main theme and modify the layout etc.

To implement this new template I create, I am guessing that I can replace $new_template (shown below; code taken from bhp-template-loader.php (wp-content/plugins/bbpress/bbp-includes) with the name of my new template, such as “bbp-new-page.php”). Is this correct?

    // bbPress template file exists
    if ( !empty( $new_template ) ) {

// Override the WordPress template with a bbPress one
        $template = $new_template;

And to modify the css, I can simply hack “bbpress.css” (wp-content/plugins/bbpress/
    bbp-theme-compat/css/bbpress.css)?

This approach seems really hacky/inelegant however.

On a slightly separate note, it appears that implementing the steps for theme-compatibility (http://codex.bbpress.org/theme-compatibility) are necessary only if you are going to use a single (custom) theme (or child theme?) for both WP and BBP?

Finding it a little confusing to untangle the methods and their purposes in BBP theming.

Thanks to anyone who can help!
