    Pagal like i said:

just because some dont work for you doesnt mean they’re useless

i use/used/tried some of her pluggins and they worked even on svn version, when i said “measure your words” was because in my opinion you were being a little “rude”, i understand you forum wasnt working but there was no reason to have a go at her like that… she’s does her work mostly for free, any help is better than none. Give her some time in her own time.

I also do some open source translation for some programs and sometimes comments like yours can have a negative effect…

anyway i can see you’re a SRK so to end this in a friendly way, probably laughing all i can say is:

ALL IZ WELL, ALL IZ WELL

just because some dont work for you doesnt mean they’re useless, you should “measure” your words as bbpress only lives because of people like CK, im using some of her pluggins and they work even with svn versions.

pluggins are put in different folders for different versions, have you checked that?

    From a user prespective

    @kevinjohngallagher and _CK_

i agree with you two, specially the parts where you say bbpress.org users and mods are updated on bbpress stuff through other sites, relying on wordpress dashboard to spread the news sounds like a last minute attempt to minimize damages, but hey…nobody is perfect)

A lot of bbpress sucess is due to pluggin developers and i think its “out of order” to post bbpress news on buddypress blog, there are moderators here that are pluggin developers that feel “betrayed and hopless” because they spend countless hours and days and nobody tells them nothing… how would you feel JJJ if it was you? i’m aware nobody is perfect but you did talk about bbpress there and even linked to bbpress.org so why not say something here first? “i feel” your pain mods…

about the name change… i aalso agree it should be called bbpress 2.0 but i think that alone wont stop all the confusion around different versions… i agree with you (_CK_) but newcomers will still be confused wether its 2.0 or 1.2 because the real confusion its not the name but the several different versions.

All in all i think the next version is what a lot of users wanted (pluggin integration, no more backpress etc), thing is a lot of the sucess is due to pluggin authors that spent countless hours making sure their pluggins/themes work across several versions, now they have (or not) to start over.

    2 last questions:

can we install the next version on its own? where can we download the alpha/beta of it? where is it? i would like to test even if its not fully functional like we do for wordpress, i can only find reference to the pluggin version at: http://svn.automattic.com/bbpress/branches/plugin/

not enough communication around… Good luck and thanks to everyone that works on bbpress wether coding/theming/pluggins or here maintaining the forum.

Thats what “worries” me, the plugins wont be compatible but will the images show up? If the plugin is not present will the images work? They’re uploaded to bbpress folder so im thinking that as long as they are there they will show up even if the plugin is not there.

Some dark times (or not) are coming for bbpress, i’m not sure if i’m the only one asking these questions when looking for a forum script/plugin.

I think from a user prespective we all ask ourselves these questions but there’s no info on bbpress future.

I like bbpress but i canĀ“t see it on a medium/long term prespective, am i worrying to much about these questions?

Another question… take for example CK’s image upload plugin, wiil the images show up on future bbpress versions even if the plugin is discountinued?

Also will the permalink structure remain in future versions? i know search engines adapt to it but links from other sites will end up in a 404 error page…outside links still go to the forum but not the right page.

    Thanks for your advices

    @ Fernando

About the localization, bbpress (1.02) its not available in Portuguese (Portugal), i wanted to translate just the “bits” that the user sees, ive tried poedit but its take time as i cant copy all strings from the “original area” to the “translated area” with one click, need to copy paste one by one, i installed glotpress and it copied all strings as i wanted with one click… all i have to do is edit the ones i want (what the user sees)

    Off topic:

one question about glotpress….how can i change the admin password? I couldnt find any reference on how to do it, i wanted to make “my glotpress” available to anyone to contribute but without changing the password anyone can login as a admin and erase all the work done. Anyone know how to change the admin password on glotpress from the default one?

Thanks to everyone for your advices

have you tried adding “bb-admin” to the end of your bbpress forum url? It might be that you’re using a custom bbpress theme that hasn’t got that option enabled on the theme.

try adding “bb-admin” and see if your wordpress login works.

i quickly made a crash course on how to use svn (tortoise) to download latest version and it says ir downloaded version 2535 to my pc, tested it locally using wampserver but it says

bbPress 1.1-alpha-2530 in the admin panel

do i need to download each file from :

    http://svn.automattic.com/bbpress/trunk/

    to get version 2535?

one of the sitemap pluggins i tried needs to be configured in the php, they’re not as straigthforward as the wordpress one so i can imagine lots of people having problems in setting them up, but i had no problems untill i activated the nicer permalinks pluggin

one of them needs another pluggin to work properly and some people might not notice it in the description (2nd one in the screenshot), im using the bbpress sitemap generator (1st one in the screenshot)

    heres the screenshot

    Hi mr_pelle

to get to admin just click on Admin (top) or add bb-admin/ to your forum url.

    http://www.mydomain.com/forums/bb-admin/

    replace mydomain.com

    by your forum url

2- Upload the uncompressed files to your server

to vague for a newbie, when i first used a ftp program years ago to install wordpress i thougt “so many directories…where on heart i’m supposed to put wordpress?”

    it takes times to learn…

    Ricardo

    @ricardouk

you have to upload the bbpress folder to the server root where the wp-config.php file is along with all 3 wordpress directories, upload it there and then visit

    http://www.mydomain.com/bbpress

can’t help you porting it to wordpress but i have a suggestion for you:

    WP-captcha free

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-captcha-free/

its the one i use and it doesnt require any action from the user.

its very clever how it works…i’ll try to explain…

a normal form for comments has 3 fields, all spam bots automatically fill all 3, what this pluggin does is addding a fourth field only visible to spam bots, if the fourth box id filled it automatically means its been made by an automated spam bot and that coment its blocked… at least its how i understand it works but i might be confused with another one.

Try it, visitors don’t like math problems etc.

Edit: it seems you want to block spammers from the registration form… don’t know if this pluggin works when a user tries to register.

    Thanks for the clarification _CK_

I’m surprised my comments are blocked by akismet, i’m not familiar with their algorithm but all 3 emails i used are “clean”, i only use them for personnal use and rarely give them to other people, i use “disposable” ones for other things.

Once again thanks for your advices/help/clarifications on this.

Ps: anything i can do on my side to speed up the process?

Thanks for bringing this up _CK_

I tried 3 times with different nicks and emails (over 3 weeks) and no luck, i’m using my wordpress.org forum account to post here, also i didnt find any contact to report the situation, why not a forum where everyone can writte or ask for help without registering?
