In reply to: BBPress Polls for 1.02 or other polls working?
Try briefly activating Kakumei… and seeing if the Save button shows up then?
In reply to: BBPress Polls for 1.02 or other polls working?I signed up a while ago but didn’t get the password til recently…
I don’t see the polls though.
In reply to: BBPress Polls for 1.02 or other polls working?I just came back to check it out, but looks like you turned off the poll feature.
Oh well, good luck!
In reply to: BBPress Polls for 1.02 or other polls working?Post a link to your site? I’d like to run some quick tests…
In reply to: BBPress Polls for 1.02 or other polls working?Marius- That’s an option in the admin: “Ask for poll during new topic creation? (requires AJAX on)”.
Set that to yes, and also this one: “Use AJAX-like actions if javascript enabled?”… and it should work!
It’s been there for a while: “Last Updated: 2010-1-13” and says, “Don’t download me yet. I’m in the beginning stages of development.”
In reply to: User being spammed continuallyI came across some disturbing bugs with Bozo, including the “random users are being marked as Bozos” one mentioned above… I don’t know if it’s fixed now, but it caused so many problems I figured I didn’t need the headaches.
Akismet comes and goes in terms of quality: it’s usually fairly reliable, but then it will freak out for a week or two and produce lots of false positives. That’s why I’ve come up with so many ways to route around it…
I still find it useful, but Akismet probably shouldn’t be checking posts by Admins or users with lots of posts already in the system… that’s just begging for problems!
In reply to: User being spammed continuallyThis sounds like something that happened to one of my members. Has she been inadvertently bozo’d?

You can also use this plugin to allow certain users to “skip akismet”:
https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/skip-akismet/
(“You can also use the profile checkbox for ignoring “throttle limit” to specifiy skipping for individual users.” <– that’s the key line)
I have found Akismet to be a decent failsafe for spam, but it’s not really suitable for use as the primary spam catcher for a message board! I’ve had great results using plugins that allow long-time members to skip the akismet process entirely…
Good luck!
In reply to: My thoughts at going home time on FridayI’m not really clear on the advantages of 1.0 using BackPress… it seemed like a huge amount of work, and I’m not clear at all on the benefits – especially since last I heard, the WordPress release wasn’t fully using BackPress yet.
Has that changed – are bbPress and WordPress using a shared BackPress codebase?
In reply to: Enable AvatarI believe Gravatars are supported by default in v 1.0+.
Because Gravatars are in the core, I remember reading once that it should be easier to create avatar plugins using the Gravatar hooks. I think Bavatar uses these hooks:
In reply to: No longer receiving post notifications, why?Hmm, I heard that email notification was now in the core of the latest (trunk) release.
Brandon – what version of bbPress were you using before you upgraded?
In reply to: Auto Generated Passwords Hit and MissThis used to drive me INSANE, but this plugin saved the day:
That’s a great point Chris!
Maybe that’s why bbPress doesn’t have native support for full post deletion… cleaning up the meta data would be a pain!
In reply to: Language problems with with v.1.0.1Do you have any programming resources or budget available? It’d be a pretty straightforward effort to upgrade the plugins to work with the latest bbPress version…
In reply to: New bbPress Project Launched Today – WoW UI GallerySeriously, this is a fantastic design!!!
I also hacked bbPress to power a gallery… but my design wasn’t nearly as gorgeous as yours. Congrats on an awesome theme!!
In reply to: Somethings holding us back (random thoughts)…I’m pretty sure you can lower the number of queries involved to pull the latest poster properly… my board also has several hundred forums, and we found a way around it. I’ll look into how we did that…
That said, please don’t (even jokingly) refer to anyone as an idiot! I’m sure you’re not being serious, but words like that have a tendency to get people to focus on the personalities and not the content discussed.
In reply to: Somethings holding us back (random thoughts)…My general sense is that most of what you describe can be pulled off with plugins…
Is the concern that since the data design isn’t optimized for inherited forums, the query count will go up?
In reply to: Somethings holding us back (random thoughts)…I’ve read your post carefully and I’d like to respond! But I’m not sure what kind of response you’re looking for…
Are you proposing we change the core to focus more on supporting forum-inheritance?
This worked great for me in 0.9:
https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/read-only-forums/
It may not work in 1.0 though…
In reply to: BBPress Developer NeededA few questions:
1) What versions of bbPress and WordPress are you using?
2) What plugins do you have active on your site now? Make a list and we can flag any ones that generate problems!
3) What’s the link to your website?
That should help us troubleshoot your problem!
In reply to: Completely remove tags? It’s probably easiest if you add this CSS to your style.css file:
In reply to: Completely remove tags?Tags is part of the bbPress core, so you can’t just turn them off by deactivating a plugin.
There are two ways to do it that I’m aware of:
1) Remove the tag code from your templates:
Tags only appears in a few places in your templates though, so it shouldn’t be too hard to remove!
https://trac.bbpress.org/browser/trunk/bb-templates/kakumei
Tag code appears in the following template files:
tag-simple.php
tags.php
tag-form.php
topic-tags.php
topic.php
There are descriptions of each template file here:
https://bbpress.org/documentation/themes/
2) Hide the tag fields in your stylesheet:
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/remove-tags
Good luck!
In reply to: Plugins You Want !!!Anonymous comments are now in the core of the 1.0 trunk release…
In reply to: bbxf in core?It looks like this is the latest 1.0 alpha to include the importer and exporter:
https://trac.bbpress.org/browser/tags/1.0-alpha-6/bb-plugins/bbxf/
Sam mentioned in that earlier link that he’d rather have the importer/exporter based on RSS rather than a custom XML format… I think that’s why he actually removed it.
That said, you’re welcome to try out the bbxf plugins! It’d be great if someone could test them out and report back if they work or not!
In reply to: bbxf in core? The former project lead (Sam Bauers) mentioned 8 months ago that bbxf had been removed from bbPress:
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbxf-%E2%80%93-bulletin-board-xml-format#post-35941
That’s the last official word I’ve heard on bbxf… but one note: the earlier discussions off bbxf mentioned it as a “bundled plugin”, not as part of the core.
