important notice about bbPress 1.0 and _ck_ plugins

Published on January 30th, 2009 by _ck_

This is a very important notice to those who insist on running the newest 1.0

The bbPress 1.0 breaks several of my plugins and possibly others due many internal changes.

Please note, I have *zero* interest and absolutely no sense of urgency in rushing to fix my plugins just because some want to run 1.0 on a live site. It may be weeks (or even months) to find and fix the problems that are created by these changes to bbPress.

So there will be two options, don’t upgrade to 1.0 or don’t use my plugins with 1.0, until there is ample time for me to make the required changes.

Not trying to be mean or unfair, I just don’t have the endless hours required to constantly patch things with every change. I have to wait until things settle.

Oh and last but not least, this is not a statement against the changes to bbPress. It’s actually important for the future of bbPress and will be the result of much hard work by Sam – it’s just an unfortunate step in the evolution of bbPress that breaks some backwards compatibility.

Hi,

it’s been almost 1 year since i use bbpress and i have a few hentai and anime forums now but my skills as a designer are not good enough to make a good theme… but actually i don’t require a brand new theme, i always use kakumei and works great for me, i would like to have a nice header and a good looking background, nice anime colors and images… if somebody can help me would be great… if not i can try doing it myself if you give me some good tutorials or something …

Controlling who can create new posts

Published on January 29th, 2009 by Skelly

Hi there,

I’m a first time bbPress user who just recently installed it on his website. What I would like to do is to control who can create new topics in the forum. Ideally, I (the keymaster/admin) would like to be the only person who can create new topics in the forum. Once topics are created, however, I would like anyone to be able to post within them.

Has anyone ever heard of a plugin or way to make this happen? I can’t seem to find a way to do it with the standard software.

Thanks in advance!

Saving settings for WordPress Integration breaks login

Published on January 29th, 2009 by westpointer

I had WordPress mu alpha 6 setup with bbpress integration. I went into bbpress admin -> settings -> WordPress integration. When I saved the settings I get an error message that admin cannot connect to the sql server. Now, I can’t log into bbpress. Here’s the error:

mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'admin'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /home/greath6/public_html/bb/bb-includes/backpress/class.bpdb.php on line 123

I know I can delete my bbpress install, remove the bbpress tables, re-install and it will work again. But, I’ve already done that twice! Anyone know a real solution to this happening or why it happens?

What is this weird control thingy

Published on January 28th, 2009 by keress

Look right under the heading “Berry Hill Forum” at

http://www.berryhilldripblog.com/bbpress/

There is a weird control panel, looks like for an audio player. There is nothing in the header.php that could be generating this. I’m thinking it’s something from the forum.php file, but don’t know where to look.

Thanks for any help.

Adding fields to Forum Manager forms (0.9.0.4)

Published on January 28th, 2009 by

I was looking in the code today to see if there was a way to add fields to the forum edit screen, but it appears that without hacking the core code there is not. I am looking to create a plugin that would allow me to add icons or images to each forum, as well as add a detailed information field to each forum. I need these for a project I am prototyping for a client and would rather not change core code.

Is it possible to override the function bb_forum_form() in the admin-functions.php file within a theme or a plugin or hook in to add additional fields? I suppose I would also need to override / hook in to the function that processes the form to handle the new fields as well. Any chance a future version of the software will have these hooks?

integration with buddypress

Published on January 28th, 2009 by

Hi !

I’m the admin of the french buddypress demo site. I encounter some difficulties with translating bbpress into french.

It seems as bbpress runs with WPMU+buddyPress, the translation is not working correctly. Probably due to cookie session mistake or something like this…

While .mo file is installed in /forum/my-languages directory, many lines are translated by the WPMU .mo file instead of bp’s one.

So, in my case, I need bp completely translated in french, not half showing in english.

Any idea of what is happening ? Thank

New WP Posts to create new BBPress Topic

Published on January 28th, 2009 by

I wonder if anyone can help, I have set up a bbPress forum within my WP installation. I have user accounts synced as described and have had good success pulling in topics into my WP homepage, and customising the theme.

I wondered if someone could point me in the right direction for my main problem though. I would like each new post that is made in WordPress to be copied and started also as a new topic in the bbPress forum. Going further than this, having WP comments act as replies to the bbPress topic would be great, but in the first instance I really just need a post to be duplicated as a new topic in bbPress.

Many thanks in advance.

Changing the default error page

Published on January 28th, 2009 by pschena

Super noobie to bbpress, and currently setting up an install for a client at: http://brainwave.org.au/forum

Got most things working to a point where I am semi happy with to start with, but having a couple of problems that need help with.

  1. When logging out of a topic or forum page, I get taken to a default page. Would like to get back to the forum landing page – any ideas how to do that?
  2. Same as point 1 when using Terms of Service plugin and tick box not ticked. Looks like all error pages use the same template – can this be changed?
  3. Client wants a private, locked down forum, and needs to ask more questions at registration time. Is it just a process of adding fields to the form and database? Which file should I be editing?

These would set me well on the way to appeasing the client.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Cheers,

Paul

How do I get recent posts?

Published on January 28th, 2009 by elizawhat

Hey everyone. Right now I’ve got a WP installation and a bbPress installation, each in their own directories. I also have a second WP installation in my root directory, with a custom template. I’d like to get the 5 or whatever most recent forum posts to display on the index page.

Anyone know how to accomplish this as painlessly as possible?
