Can I keep two databases

Published on April 2nd, 2009 by DTI

Can I hold two databases in same place using mysql, one is for forum and another is for myself (not for wordpress)?

When I install bbpress 0.9.0.4, it can’t been connected with forum-database(stick in step 1), although I use databaseConnect.php to test it that success connecting forum-database. But I use myself-database to replace it, it is work and pass step 1. 2. 3. (myself-database is first, forum-database is second in order.)

But it can’t be loged in, anybody password is incorrect in my forum. After using recovered password it still doesn’t work. I think the problem is forum-tables mixed with myself-tables, they stay in one database. So I want to reinstall bbPress but I worry to stick step 1 same before. Could you give me some suggestion.

I use bbPress 0.9.0.4 , not integrated with WordPress. My server use Linux CentOS, Apache 2.2.3, Mysql5.045 and Php 5.1.6 .

something happening on TalkPress.com

Published on April 2nd, 2009 by _ck_

I’m not sure exactly when this year it happened but they finally replaced the front page on http://talkpress.com (I think it was on or around March 24th 2009)

Looks interesting. This one is the most interesting to me, because you might notice how much it looks like bbPress:

http://talkpress.com/wordpress-content/themes/talkpress-temp/i/4.png

update: oh and here is the actual website featured:

http://ask-the-expert.health.com/

It is indeed running bbPress (1.0 alpha 6)

So it’s an Automattic hosted bbPress with WordPress.com logins.

The bottom right of the page says “Powered by TalkPress VIP”.

Google first saw it on March 19th 2009

Last logged / Not logged in for

Published on April 2nd, 2009 by

Hello,

I am loving bbPress.. I am so impressed with it.

I have set up a private forum for a project team I run. I installed bbPress and two or three plug-ins later I had almost everything I wanted. It looks and works great.

The only thing I am missing right now is the ability to see a list of users, when the last logged in and there Custom Title. This information would be really handy so that I can see if people aren’t’ checking the forum regularly, and find out if there is a problem. If not the complete lest then perhaps the plug-in could list people who have not logged in for a defined amount of time 1 day, 30days or something.

I have had a look around the extend section on the site, and didn’t find anything that looks like it could do this. Also looking at the tables I see that last login time is not stored (unless this is meta data).

Thoughts and advice comments or offers of help very welcome.

bbPress developer blog?

Published on April 2nd, 2009 by

I think part of the reason people keep asking for a roadmap or a release date (which is annoying, I know) is because there is no up-to-date page on the bbPress site with that information. Open source projects especially survive on public support and communication.

So how about this: what if Sam or CK posted a quick two-minute update each month to the blog about progress that’s being made and what still remains to do? I don’t mean alpha announcements or set-in-stone deadlines — more of a this-is-what-we’re-working-on bit, or talking about what features you’d like to see in a 1.0 final. That might even motivate other coders to step up and help, and make everyone else feel like we’re included in it.

I bet the time it takes to do that will save you hours of headaches responding to nagging questions from your fans.

We don’t care if a feature slips or things get delayed, as long as communications are still there. We’re a forgiving bunch. :)

Open source projects thrive when they have a central figure communicating regularly with people and keeping everyone in the loop.

This is not a complaint. I know you guys are working very hard!

Avatar Upload Admin Panel Missing

Published on April 1st, 2009 by

The Avatar Upload works fine on my site, but I cannot access any admin functions to change preferences. I have looked everywhere. I want to change the max dimensions for the pictures because my template doesn’t handle the default 150-pixel limit very well. I already tried changing the php file through its code and re-uploaded, but that did not do anything.

The plugin states that admin functions for avatar should be available. Suggestions, anyone?

Login form appearing after logging in

Published on April 1st, 2009 by

I’m having the weirdest problem with Firefox and logging in on a fresh bbpress installation. In Firefox, after logging in, any previously viewed page still shows the login form rather than showing that you are logged in until I hard refresh the page. I’ve tested this on multiple computers with various OS, and it’s the same on all, IE logs in fine, Firefox needs a refresh. Somehow I think this is a server configuration issue, as I haven’t seen this on any other BBPress installation, but it’s odd the behaviour only shows in Firefox and wouldn’t know where to start looking if it really is a server issue.

I started with an alpha 1.0 installation for integration with WP 2.7 and was having the same issue, so I tried a standalone installation 0.9.0.4 the other day and continue to have this behaviour.

Everything Works Except Cookies

Published on April 1st, 2009 by

You guys and gals do a great job by the way.

I installed bbPress 1.06Beta and WP 2.7.1 on a GoDaddy server with PHP5.x and mySQL5. The WP blog is in the root directory and bbPress is under it in /forums/ directory. I followed the integration videocast exactly and everything ran smoothly. Except for the life of me I can not figure out why the cookies are not working. The only thing I can see irregular, is that one will log me out of the other. And this is what I put in the bb-config.

define(‘COOKIE_DOMAIN’, ‘.mysite.com’);

define(‘COOKIEPATH’, ‘/’);

Can’t see plugin, etc

Published on April 1st, 2009 by

Hello!

I’ve integrated the WP 2.7.1 and bbpress 0.9.4.

Right now it seems like it working. But something not right anyway. Login/Logout working just fine. My only problem is when I log in to the bbpress as Administrator I can’t see any settings, plugins, etc.

All I can see in /bb-admin

Dashboard Users and Manage tabs.

Nothing else

Can somebody help me? Please, what I need to check and where I can fix it?

What I did wrong?
