I should have a database downgrade tool finished by the end of this weekend.
I need a few testers who know what they are doing and can backup their database (and restore it) if something goes wrong.
Technically you’d have to clone the database anyway since you’d want to install bbPress 0.9 into another directory, at least for testing purposes. But that requires you to override some settings via bb-config.php to tell it where everything is, or re-run the install routine for 0.9
Obviously this does not do anything magical to your plugins, they have to be backwards compatible with 0.9 also (if you are using mine in 1.x successfully, they will work in 0.9 but I can’t speak for others).

I have moved my wordpress blog from a subdirectoy down to the root and it seems to be working fine now.
When I installed the wordpress and the bbpress, I gave settings to ensure that they were tied together.
Now that I have moved the wordpress to the root directory, what do I have to change in the wordpress and the bbpress to make sure that when you post to the blog it appears in the forum etc.?

After the first time that I logged into my bbpress account after the install with wordpress I was no longer able to access the wordpress wp-admin page. no login option or anything. whenever i try to login i dont get anything… i can however log into the bbpress admin account
My set-up is as followed:
wordpress-instance
>files with wp instance (ie wp-config.php, index.php, etc)
>[folder] wp-admin
>[folder] wp-content
>[folder] plugins
>[folder] themes
>[folder] myCustomTheme
>[folder] uploads
>[folder] index.php
>[folder] wp-includes
>[folder] bbpress instance
Is this where i would want to put the bbpress instance for installation?
Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Okay – so I’m finally getting around to putting my forum live. I have a number of topics that I started months ago and would like to change the published date on them so they look fresh. Is there way to do this?

I found several posts about converting SMF to bbPress. Since I just got done with the conversion and it is still fresh on my mind, I figured I would share my notes on the process.
To convert SMF to bbPress, I had to:
-Convert SMF 1.1.11 to phpBB3 (3.0.7)
-Convert phpBB3 (3.0.7) to bbPress 1.0.2
I had SMF setup on a subdomain: forums.mysite.com
- I created a NEW database separate from the SMF database.
- In the root of forums.mysite.com, I created two directories “bbpress” and “phpbb”.
- I uploaded the uncompressed files of phpBB3 to the “phpbb” directory.
- I uploaded the SMF 1.1.x to phpBB3 converter script. It can be found here: http://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/converter/smf_1.1.x_to_phpbb3/
- When you install phpBB3, I installed it using the NEW database that I created. I followed the “phpBB Convert How To” guide which can be found here: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=1213555
- At this point, your SMF forum should now be converted to phpBB3.
- Next, I uploaded the uncompressed files of bbPress to the “bbpress” directory and installed bbPress using the same NEW database as phpBB3.
- I used the phpbb3-to-bbpress1-converter which is hosted on Google Code. The script is super easy to install and comes with instructions. It can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/phpbb3-to-bbpress1-converter/
- Optional: I logged into phpMyAdmin and deleted the tables prefixed with phpbb_ in the NEW database.
- Success. It is finished.

Honestly, after reading all the posts out there this whole process seemed rather daunting. Let me assure you that it is easier than it sounds.
Thanks to everyone’s notes that got me on my way and to the awesome folks out there that took the time to write these scripts to make it even possible.

Hello
I’m not sure if anyone can help, but it would be very much appreciated if they can.
I have a registration, login and update personal info system that I use for my site. I am trying to integrate bbpress into my site.
However, I would also like to integrate the registration and login system of bbpress into my site. That is, I would like my members to use the registration and login system of my site, and have that update and use the database of bbpress.
Therefore, all of the members of my site will only use the admin features of my site, not bbpress.
Has anyone done this successfully? Or can anyone help please?
PS: I like bbpress a lot, it’s just that I think it would be easier to manipulate my system rather than bbpress’.
Thanks if you can.

Hello.
Why would one table come up ok (latest), but forumlist would look like this? http://i896.photobucket.com/albums/ac166/nobody5973/screenshot_003.png
This is what I have in style.css
#latest, #forumlist, #favorites {
background-color: #f7f7f7;
margin-bottom: 3em;
width: auto;}
Isn’t the wrapper in the body supposed to *wrap* things up nicely?
#wrapper {
margin: 0 0 0 0;
background: #fff;
width: 850px;
padding: 0 20px;}
I hope that people have been confronted with this issue before and successfully overcame it,
Thank you.
Bob

I just found a huge file “core” (no extension) in my bbpress root folder…
it is a binary file which has a lot of unreadable characters, interspersed with segments of code from bbpress and what appears to be log entries…
Is this supposed to be there, or is this some kind of viral invasion.
any advice would be most appreciated, before I delete it.
Thanks!

Hi! I’m a brand new bbpress user, and looking forward to getting better acquainted with all of you. However I do have an immediate issue on which I could use some advice.
I’ve made a conversion from vbulletin 3, via phpbb3, to bbpress 1.0.2. In the process, none of the slugs for the forums or topics fields were populated. Would any of you have a nice solution for that handy?
I’ve put this in the Installation topic, because bbpress isn’t broke. I believe this is more likely an artifact from the conversion. Please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

Hey Folks! I’ve searched for this answer and went through the motions and I’ve still got nothing here.
I have deleted and re-installed several times and still cannot login to admin. I install a fresh install, and try to login to admin with the generated password and nothing. I’ve cleared my cache, tried different browsers, and still can’t login.
I’ve gone through php my admin, changed the password using MD5 and that doesn’t work either. I even tried registering with the same username and email address as admin and it doesn’t even tell me that the user exists.
The password reset also doesn’t work, I never get the email.
Does anybody have any ideas here?
Thanks,
Nick
