plugin beta2 Interesting server 403 error:

Published on May 28th, 2011 by Anointed

I’m no sysadmin, so understanding what is happening is a bit beyond me right now.

Here’s what I was doing to cause the 403 error:

1. I wanted to test to see what bbpress does with a really long forum post title, so I tried the following:

Let’s create a really crazy long title name to see if the table properly removes any extra text from the title or not

The body of the post says:

Well I hope that title above was long enough, I can’t imagine any forum titles being longer than this one.

When I click submit, I get a 403error below:

[Fri May 27 20:21:10 2011] [error] [client 76.121.8.129] mod_security: Access denied with code 403. Pattern match ":space:+(select|grant|delete|insert|drop|alter|replace|truncate|update|create|rename|describe):space:+[A-Z|a-z|0-9|\\*| |\\,]+:space:+(from|into|table|database|index|view):space:+[A-Z|a-z|0-9|\\*| |\\,]" at POST_PAYLOAD [severity "EMERGENCY"] [hostname "mysite.com"] [uri "/forum/prayer-requests/healing/"] [unique_id "TeA-9kUuJUQAABVAGuk"]

I am unsure of how to interpret the error, and what steps I need to take in order to resolve the problem. Hope this error helps identify something.

Updating bbP plugin Deleted my theme!!

Published on May 28th, 2011 by tooltrainer

OK, trying VERY hard not to completely panic here…

I updated bbP Plugin to beta 2 a few hours ago, thinking nothing much of it. I got called away for a while and just sat back down and went to look at the site – AND IT’S GONE!!

The bbP upgrade has DELETED my theme directory, and with it my entire site!

I do have a handy backup but it’s at least a week old, I might have a more recent backup as young as 24 hours but I’m going to have to go try to dig it out of my backup system.

If bbP upgrades are always going to completely overwrite the themes directory, this is a VERY bad thing!!

Back to trying to repair the damage fast. I hope someone can resolve this for future updates!

plugin beta2 subscribe/favorites delay

Published on May 28th, 2011 by Anointed

When I click on either subscribe or add to favorites, there is a noticeable delay before the text changes to subscribed or added to favorites.

This has lead me on a number of times to continue to click the button, not realizing that it is simply processing.

Strange part is this is on a dedicated server with basically no load, so I do not know why the delay is happening.

suggestion:

Some type of notification text saying it is being updated or something via popup, don’t really care what, just need something to tell the user that it’s working.

*If there is any way for me to ‘troubleshoot’ the delay, then I am willing to test to see why it is happening.

bbpress plugin beta2 breadcrumbs

Published on May 28th, 2011 by Anointed

Suggestion:

I noticed that beta2 changed the breadcrumbs to include a ‘Home’ button as the first level. The suggestion would be to have the ‘Home’ button link to the forum home page and not the site root home page.

It is rather confusing even to myself to be kicked from the forums when clicking the home breadcrumb link. I would expect to be sent to the forum homepage instead.

Fatal error that does not seem to be fatal – Version 2.0-beta-2b

Published on May 27th, 2011 by kmessinger

I think this started when I upgraded the beta version this morning. After clicking on a forum I get the correct screen with this message at the bottom,

Fatal error: Call to undefined function bbp_current_user_can_create_topic_in_forum() in /hermes/bosweb26a/b1658/d5.savethec/public_html/stc/wp-content/themes/bbp-atahualpa366/bbpress/form-topic.php on line 17

This does not seem to effect anything.

Here is the link. http://www.savethecolors.com/?forum=test2-2

bbP 2.0 b1 – Intermittently can't post replies

Published on May 27th, 2011 by tooltrainer

Please see this video for a live example of the problem:

http://screencast.com/t/VSNAeZdKdi

Short version – can’t post a reply. When I (or a user) do, it just doesn’t get posted. No error, no nothing, just no post.

Thanks,

Jonathan

How do you make a "Private" forum visible to some WordPress classes?

Published on May 27th, 2011 by powerspawn

I have a forum that is marked “Private” but only admins can see it. I want Contributors and Editors and such to be able to see the Private forum as well. How do you that? I just want to hide it from basic members.

Subscribers can view deleted/spam posts

I’m trying the beta 2 of bbPress plugin in my localhost environment.

I noticed that all subscriber users can view deleted posts or posts marked as spam by the admin.

Is it a bug?

'bbpress-plugin' Conflict with SFC Like Button, Forums don't display

Published on May 27th, 2011 by Rev. Voodoo

Just figured I’d report this here for information. I’m not skilled enough to know which end the conflict would be on.

With Otto’s SFC (Simple Facebook Connect) there are numerous modules that go with it. There seems to be a conflict between bbPress plugin, and the Like button module.

When the Like button is active, I can get to the main forum listing. But if I click to get to the individual forum pages, I just see the title and nothing further.

This only occurs when running it straight from the plugin. I have a simple twenty ten child theme on VoodooPress. I originally dropped all the files into my theme, and it worked fine. But I don’t want to run it that way, as the intent of the site is to always run a customized (child) version of whatever WP’s default theme is. So keeping just the plugin running is easier.

When I drop all the files out of my theme, and run bbPress as just a plugin, I get the conflict.

Just wanted to make everyone aware in case they run into this. So far, bbPress is a great plugin. Slowly working through things to figure it out.

How to add registration when not using bbPress – TwentyTen?

Published on May 27th, 2011 by mhjerde99

Hi

The forum plugin is amazing and I love it. Huge kudos!

I’m trying to get a forum up and running at http://www.riftlabs.com

I’m using bbPress with an existing Woo template.

The (only?) thing I can’t seem to add is user registration. There is no widget or shortcode for it.

I tried adding bbPress – TwentyTen as a child theme, but that messes up the layout, which is to be expected, I guess.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Morten
