niewbie : simple questions

Published on August 14th, 2014 by anvienhponline

Hi all,

I’ve noticed that when I view my profile via bbPress, the image from my last blog post is displayed. I’d like that eliminated, if possible. I’ve rifled through the coding and can’t seem to pick it out.

The second: Under bio: We want users to use that area to ‘Share’ their personal story, but it doesn’t allow much in the way of paragraph breaks. Is that doable?

Thanks!

bbp_list_replies() doesn't recognise the 'walker' argument..

Published on August 14th, 2014 by _rain_maker_

Hi there

I’m not too sure if I’m in the right place to ask/mention this, but I live in hope 🙂

I am working on a site at work and we’re using BBPress for a forum. So firstly, ty very much for making BBPress so intuitive to extend and customise on a theme level! 🙂

Secondly, I may be doing this wrong but when I enable multi threaded replies and use the bbp_list_replies() function to list the replies I noticed that it doesn’t seem to use the custom walker I pass to it. So I thought that maybe there could be a conditional in said function using $r[‘walker’] or defaulting to BBP_Walker_Reply?..

Or I could be totally confused? 8)

Thanks for the great work,

Help with BBpress characteristics

Published on August 14th, 2014 by gonzalotre2

Hi,

I would like to integrate a forum in a wordpress page, and obviously I was thinking about bbpress, but I have major worries about themes moderation. Before installing, I have 4 specific questions regarding this:

May I include a button to denounce a commentary –bad language, publicity, whatsoever-? I think it is a key issue for developing a forum and the harmony between members.

May I include a profile of the user –company, linkedin profile, etc.- in the registration form?

I would like to have 3 sections, with different permissions in each of them –being able to post mainly-. Is it possible?

May I insert a twitter/facebook sharing button in each post?

If this is not possible do you know if I can do anything to solve these issues?

Thanks in advance

mobile layout

Published on August 14th, 2014 by Yolle

Hi.
I have been partly successful in changing the mobile layout of the bbpress. I have managed to make avatars smaller in the mobile layout and also more aligned to the left, as well as the author name and author role. However, I can’t seem to find the correct code to make the content of the reply (bbp-reply-content?) more to the left or to make the space smaller between the author info and the text.

Surely there must be a very simple solution to this?
Thanks!

bbPress Log-In Issues with Theme

Published on August 14th, 2014 by widlak

I recently switched to the Graphene theme (which I must say is quite awesome!!!), mainly because I wanted something that I could integrate a forum into without creating a separate site or subdomain. Plus this was the only theme that looked great right out of the box.

With that said, if this is a bbPress issue and not a theme issue, I will certainly seek help in a different location. I am horrible with code but with simple instruction, I could navigate my way around it.

I uploaded the bbPress plugin, created a page, and promptly began placing the shortcode in the widget areas for loggin in and registering. The default log-in was already filled out for me and I clicked the ‘Log-In’ button and when I refreshed my screen it took me to the home page. I reopened my WP log-in screen and when I logged in, it took me to my home screen again, not my WP admin panel. Am I doing something wrong? I want to be able to integrate everything in this theme without having to leave and log-in to an entirely different site. Please help.

Thanks

Conversion MyBB to bbPress

Published on August 13th, 2014 by EzYRiDaH

Hi there,
First of all I am not a hardcore coder. Used to code 20 years ago, so I can read a lot of the syntax, but am quite new to the javascript, php etc. Can handle myself a bit in sql though.

I am trying to migrate a very big MyBB forum to bbPres (1,7 mlj posts and 63k discussions). Tried to do it directly on my VPS, but it took way too long. Ages…

After some trial and error I was able to make a complete dump of the MyBB as SQL and imported it on my Mac’s MAMP. I was one happy muppet and kicked of the conversion.

Whatever I do I keep getting the same messages. No error messages, just that there is nothing to convert. I have tried every scenario I could think of that could go wrong. Localhost port, userid/pass on database, prefix etc etc. Whatever I do, even leave blank fields to get some kind of error message, I still get the same result. Absolutely nothing to convert.

I’ve checked the code but could not find any error handling. Could be there, but I am not too familiar on linking php code files.

I get the feeling this is some kind of MAMP issue because I got it to run on my VPN.

Any help / suggestions are more than welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Unable to create group

Published on August 13th, 2014 by We Are Game Changers

We’ve installed the plugin and all of the relevant pages have been created. But when logged in (as admin) I’m unable to create groups. After I click ‘create group’ the site goes to the front page. How can I fix this? Enable group creation for all users is also ticked.

Im trying to import phpbb forums and I know I have the correct database settings.

I click “start” and it shows “starting conversion” with the little loading wheel and never changes. Load wheel spun from 11pm last night … still spinning at 9am this morning and no change … just “starting conversion”.

The BBpress Support Forums Do Not Work…

Published on August 13th, 2014 by cybarmitzvah

Hi guys, I think i should clear up my title. First off, the community of helpers and supporters here is great, and this is why I am pretty annoyed.

Ok, The BBpress.org support forums are pretty useless and let me explain why. The main problem with them, is if you are serious about setting up a forum that will become big/look professional, you would need professional help. It is nearly impossible to teach yourself/post questions here and get answers.

This is my other problem. Every day I seem to get about one problem with my site that I need being changed… I post it here, but most of the time I don’t even get an answer. I have about 6 open threads right now. Plus, if you have a big forum and need help quick, the support forums are way too slow to help you. At best, they are good for forums that are not yet live, or that are really small.

What I am trying to re-iderate is that sadly, these support forums are pretty much useless. Don’t get me wrong, starting a forum is no walk in the park, if it was, everyone would be doing it. I just really wanted to get the message out because it has been something that has been annoying me lately. It becomes pretty clear when you go back on old messages here that I would say just about every site has disappeared and the domain is for sale.

What am I suggesting as an alternative? Not sure, all I know is that I cannot do this myself and need outside help.

Ok thank you for listing,
JB

On another note, I know a lot of the supporters here do coding on a side job. I have quiet a few things I need help with on my forum and if anyone has some time, I would love the help. Potentially we could talk via google chat or something live about what I need done in my forum.

Hide author/admin

Published on August 13th, 2014 by cybarmitzvah

On this page, and every other sub-forum page,

http://www.astronomertalk.com/forums/forum/welcome-to-astronomertalk-com/

in the top left, it says “admin,” then a timestamp next to it. How can I delete this, because the link goes to a page that does not exist.

Maybe just add some code to my custom CSS.

Best,
JB
