    Hey all,

I will be adding a Forum to an existing WordPress site, and I am familiar with both PHPBB and vBulletin, and I would like to use the “Category” features — where Forums are listed under an appropriate category.

I would like to use bbPress for the common look and feel, and single sign on four our users.

    Can I set up Categories?

    @do7d

Your site looks amazing! Forum is very beautiful too.
Is it truly a bbpress forum? I can’t seem to get mine to look even half as awesome 🙁
I’d like to have my freshness column just like yours and my sub forums showing like that.

    Hello,

I just installed buddypress/bbpress in my site, it is using catalyst/dynamic theme and everything works fine but I really dont like the bbpress forum layout. It displays well but it is just ugly. Is there any way to change the style or look of the forum without changing my theme? I would like something more like vBulletin, phpbb or even this same forum which looks a lot better.

You can take a look at http://www.luchotv.com/foro

    wp 3.4.2

    bbpress 2.1.2

    buddypress 1.6.1

    buddypress template pack 1.2.1

    catalyst 1.5.3

    dynamic 1.1

    Thank you for your help,

    Luciano

I just went through this nightmare and the way I got it to work was a little tricky.

When you get stuck like that, stop the script and go to the repair tab where you recount everything. Go through and do each one of those checkboxes one at a time. Then go and try to continue through the conversion process.

    Keep in mind:
the user password portion is still broken. At least none of my old users can login to the new system like they should be able to. There is an unsolved trac ticket on this already.

You can just delete the user and assign all those topics & replies to another user.

eg. If your vBulletin username was ‘Anointed’ and that username is the same username you setup for WordPress during the import, bbPress would have created a username ‘Imported_Anointed’ to avoid duplicates etc.

Go to the WordPress Admin -> Users and find the username ‘Imported_Anointed’ and click ‘delete’, the next screen will show you a copuple of options to either delete the user and all posts OR to ‘Attribute all posts and links to’ another username, simply select your ‘Anointed’ username from the dropdown list and all topics and replies will now be merged with your primary WordPress username ‘Anointed’

I just imported my vbulletin forums into bbPress.

    Question:
I want to take all the topics and replies that were added to vbullletin(now bbpress) under my old username and merge those topics and replies to my current username.

Is there a tool to do this, or do I need to do a direct mysql query by hand?

This option I am pretty sure will not work in the way during the import that the topics and replies are matched to user ID’s, essentially during the import bbPress can not match the vBulletin (or any other forum) UserID to an existing WordPress user.

As for the other side of things I haven’t tried to do what you are trying to do with MultiSite though a quick test install locally to give it a run through different scenarios would be the best bet to see what the outcome is.

    I’ve setup WordPress multisite.

Using the built in importer from vbulletin (which works great), I am curious, my forums are going to be on site #2, not my primary install site.

So if I do this, run the importer, and import all users/posts from vbulletin, the users are then added to site #2, or both site #1 and #2? (site #1 is root site)

    Or:
Am I better off, this sounds stupid, importing the users/forums from vb into my root site #1, then erasing the forums/topics/replies, keeping the users, and then going to site #2 and doing a forum only import?

    Goal:
Obviously I need users to be able to login to site#2, but would also like to make sure all users are able to login to the parent ‘global’ site #1.

    How should I proceed?

    #118135

If it’s not on the same server, there’s no way to import the data. Copy the DB over, migrate the data, then delete the old DB tables.

So, should I file a bug report or something? Please let me know.

No, it’s not on the same host. So localhost wouldn’t work.

Is your vBulletin forum currenty setup on the same web host?

If so rather than using the IP what happens if you leave the remote server as ‘localhost’ rather than using the IP?

    Hi,

I’m trying to import an existing vBulletin 4.2 based forum. The IP is correct, so are database name, user name and password. However all the importer says is “No users to import”, “No threads to import” etc.

I’m running latest stable versions of WordPress and bbPress.

    Any clues? Thanks!

bbPress 2.1x includes the import tool now to import from bbPress Standalone, phpBB, vBulletin & Invision.

To get started importing forums have a look at this

@DevArthran There has since been another update and unless you downloaded the version you are using from the ‘SVN Trunk’ you wont have the latest patches.

You can download an updated version of bbp-user-functions.php (4141) which has worked for a few others it will be in the next update of bbPress.

It would also be great to get some feedback on the vBulletin import as we have had very little feedback thus far from anyone migrating from vBulletin to bbPress.

I can confirm with 2.12 it still doesnt work. Fresh install from the plugin directory. Imported from vBulletin and then when a user logs in the following error is given:

Warning: require_once(bbp-converter.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/devnet/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bbpress/bbp-includes/bbp-user-functions.php on line 1466

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘bbp-converter.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/devnet/public_html/wp-content/plugins/bbpress/bbp-includes/bbp-user-functions.php on line 1466

Doing investigation, seems that line 1466 which is:require_once( bbpress()->admin->admin_dir . ‘bbp-converter.php’ ); Is getting confused at the locations?

Ass Andre stated, 2.1 does indeed support importing from vBulletin, please give it a go and let me know how it goes for you, I haven’t tried importing from vBulletin myself yet (or Invision) and I think I was going to make a note of that in the docs.

2.x does. If you have bbPress installed go to /wp-admin/tools.php?page=bbp-converter.

This page describing the bbPress core implies that there are notes on how to import from vBulletin, stating:

    > Import Forums
    >
    > Published on July 3rd, 2012 by netweb Supported Platforms bbPress v1.x
    > phpBB v.3.x (For Invision or vBulletin see notes below.)

But there are no “notes below” that reference vBulletin. Does bbPress support vBulletin import?

bbPress 2.1.1 was released and the notes said “Fixed Invision, phpBB, and vBulletin importers”.
    Didn’t help with my problem!

Hey there! Just as the topic says :)

I’m looking for a plugin for WordPress or bbPress that will allow my forum users to create an image showcase.

I feel like they’re going to use it a good bit, as the site in question is all about collections of glass art.

Is there anything out there that will serve my needs? Does anyone know? I know that vBulletin has an addon that allows users to do this, and I believe phpBB does as well.

    Thanks for answers guys.

@enderandrew Yes that’s the problem for me – I am going to have some other large WordPress project which I’d like to be integrated with this new forum very closely. That’s why I think about bbPress.

@John Yes WordPress itself is very scalable to start with Mashable and with itself WP.COM and it’s really all about optimization, traffic handling, hardware, etc. But which one will need more working on all these options – professional forum such as IPB ro vBulletin or bbPress?
