    Hey there,

The answer might be a no brainer for others that have been using the plugin version of bbpress for a while, but just like you I just migrated from the standalone version and suddenly I felt completely lost as I was used to editing the php templates for everything. I probably missed this explanation as it’s been a while since I visit bbpress.org.

Here’s the deal. You need to use the shortcodes provided here: https://codex.bbpress.org/shortcodes/

That’s the short answer. What I didn’t know was that you need to add these shortcodes on the page you create in WordPress for your forums. So, say you have your forums at yoursite.com/forums. You need to create a page in wordpress called “forums”, after you have done that, you can add the shortcodes on the page to customize bbpress to your liking (others can correct me if I’m wrong as I just recently figured this out).

So adding [bbp-forum-index], will display your entire forum index. Then you would need to add [bbp-topic-index] to display the most recent 15 topics across all your forums with pagination.

What I still have not been able to figure out is that when you add the login tag [bbp-login] on the homepage (not the sidebar), there’s no option for login out once you’re logged in. If you find the answer for this, let me know. Hope this helps.

Hey guys, I did quite a bit of research on this one but I am yet to find a solution.

I am looking display a list of the ‘Latest Topics’ on the ‘Forum Index’ page and the ‘Homepage’ of my blog.

This was easy in the older versions of BBPress wherein you could modify the ‘archive-forum.php’ or ‘page-front-forums.php’, but it does not work with bbpress 2.2.4.

Anyone here knows of a solution?

This is my netball forum, migrated to bbPress from phpbb:

    Latest

The import sort of mucked up, so I have a few odd Anonymous users here and there that I have been having to change in the database, but no other problems otherwise.

We designed it to fit into our website as much as possible. Our website is an online digital netball magazine, with the latest netball news and netball forum too.

    Thanks @netweb for your help!

    WordPress 3.5.1
    Buddypress Version 1.6.4
    Bbpress Version 2.3-beta2

I’ve looked around for a while but I can’t seem to find a fix. After installing bbpress Version 2.3 beta2, anyone who is not logged in cannot see the first post of any thread.

I’ve already gone through and tested by deactivating every one of my plugins with the exception of buddypress.

    Any suggestions…

I have bbpress installed on my site, when I log in with a test normal account (participant), and click on forum page, I just got 404 error.

I deactive all the plugins, and check one by one, finally I found this plugin caused this 404 error, okay, I found the problem, but I don’t know how to fix it 😀 I don’t want to deactive any more either forever.

    Thank you in advance.

    WordPress version: 3.5.1
    bbpress version: 2.2.4
    http://cchfh.org/test

I created a user role called Board using “members” plugin and assigned all roles shown here for participant (http://codex.bbpress.org/bbpress-user-roles-and-capabilities/#participant)

I set the WordPress General settings, New User Default Role, to Board.

I set the Default role for the Forum to Participant.

I created a test user account which is set to Board and Participant. When I login with that account and go to the test page the forum doesn’t show up. But it does show up with my Admin role account.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Hi All,

I’m using the latest version of bbPress plugin.

I don’t see any forum roles such as: Keymaster, moderator etc. when I’m editing or adding a user. Any idea what might be wrong?

    Thanks

    Hello

We’ve been using bbpress almost since the beginning, and we currently have a quite big forum.

Site is this http://iphonefan.com forum is here http://iphonefan.com/foro as you can see it’s also quite modded and customized.

So upgrading was not something we did frequently, but a recent necessary php and mysql upgrade forced us to upgrade our wordpress and bbpress. WordPress upgrade went ok, but bbpress was a problem since we just learned it moved from being a standalone version to a plugin version.

Since the problem we had was the the recent php and mysql brought some error like these:

`Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /home/ifans/public_html/foro/bb-settings.php on line 186

Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /home/ifans/public_html/foro/bb-includes/backpress/functions.wp-object-cache.php on line 108

Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /home/ifans/public_html/foro/bb-includes/backpress/pomo/mo.php on line 171

Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /home/ifans/public_html/foro/bb-includes/functions.bb-l10n.php on line 484

Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /home/ifans/public_html/foro/bb-includes/backpress/class.wp-taxonomy.php on line 581`

Import from 1.0.2 (our latest forum version) to latest bbpress was a nightmare (duplicated forums, topics, posts. Stalled conversions and so on). So looking for advice here ate bbpress forums found that it could be easier if I upgraded first from 1.0.2 to 1.2. I downloaded the legacy version, the backpress files (whatever they were) and the “pomo” folder (also don’t know what it is).

We decided to try to upgrade to 1.2 as suggested. Everything went fine, uploaded files helped, the errors didn’t show in this version, next step was going to the admin panel and upgrade the database, clicked the “upgrade database” button and then another error.

    `Network Error (tcp_error)

A communication error occurred: “Operation timed out”
The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time.

For assistance, contact your network support team.`

I can’t tell what’s happening, I’ve tried to increase the maximum execution time, the php memory, nothing worked so far.

What can I do? how can I upgrade the database without this timeout error? is it possible to do it through shell? Is a setting I need to move in my server?

    Please help!

After a week of testing I finally found the problem. I notice that when I change the user role to Editor and Administrator the editor works perfectly on both the backend and frontend.

I will see if if we can reproduce this though now I am confused as to now you are inferring that all of this is based upon you using Ultimate TinyMCE.

So i installed the User Role Editor plugin and checked the Unfiltered HTML setting and not everything works fine except for the fact that a message shows up for all users:

“Your account has the ability to post unrestricted HTML content.” – how can i get rid of it?

You enabled that setting, disable that setting and the message goes away!

As to what HTML tags you allow that is up to you and none that you list above should be of a security concern.

BTW…is this the best way to do it? I’m thinking it would be better to modify the way WP filters HTML instead of disabling filtering completely.

    What do you say?

I am not seeing that on any of my test sites… 2.2.4 and 2.3

Can you try using Twenty Eleven or Twenty Twelve theme rather than a custom theme and of course with all other plugins disabled and let me know.

    Hi guys,
I have a forums site though WordPress and bbPress and would like to know if the feature stated below is possible or hopefully created.
Hopefully it’s possible for there an alerts button in the menu bar that shows them recent replies to subscribed topics on a page.
What I need is for every time someone has replied to a topic they are subscribed to, in the menu bar the alerts link will have an icon with how many alerts (unread) eg (2) in an icon. This would require the alerts page too.

I saw this on forums powered by another forum software. (PAID)

I use the latest bbPress and WordPress.

    Thanks in advance.
    Sincerely,
    ayden1232

I just tested this and cannot reproduce it using the latest bbPress beta.

Can you try the with the latest beta and if it is still an issue open a ticket on trac.

I’m using the Simple:Press to bbPress importer that comes with the latest version of bbPress. I am currently running the most recent version of WordPress and have Simple:Press 5.1.4.

The topic/replies imported perfectly, with exception to one bit. The forum thinks all the posts it imported were created by user 1, the main site Admin.

I have run “Recount topics for each user” and “Recount replies for each user” but they didn’t appear to fix it (and I’m guessing they aren’t meant for this purpose, based on their labeling)

I was wondering if anyone else was having similar issues.

After a few failed attempts, I was able to successfully do the conversion from bbpress 1.02 standalone version to the latest plugin version (2.2.4). Doing this requires a few steps and I might do a blog post about this later but for now:

    1. You need to update the standalone version to 1.2. I tried importing without doing this and some data, like parent forums didn’t get converted so I ended up with a bunch of forums with no parent (and if you have a big forum, you don’t want that).

To update you need to download version 1.2 from https://bbpress.org/download/legacy/ and then download the backpress and pomo files that you see below version 1.2. You then need to create a folder called “backpress” in the “bb-includes” folder and dump in all files that come in the backpress-1.2-bbpress includes folder.

    So you’ll have: bbpress>bb-includes>backpress>class.bp-log.php and so on…

Then download the pomo files and create a folder called “pomo” inside the “backpress” folder. Dump in the files you downloaded in there.

    So you’ll have: bbpress>bb-includes>backpress>pomo>entry.php and so on…

Now you can update your standalone version to 1.2 as you did in the past. Be careful not to delete your bb-config.php and your old templates (if you had custom templates). Make sure you log in to your admin panel so the database gets updated.

    2. Now you are ready to import using the import tool in wordpress. Download and install latest bbpress plugin version, then go to Tools>Forums>Import Forums and follow the instructions to import all your information (don’t forget to put “bb_” as your table prefix).

    Hope this helps

I’ve encountered this on both Windows 8 with Chrome and Ubuntu 12.10 with Firefox (screenshots). I can’t test on Safari. Also your first test post does not contain a bunch of text, the second one does. Test it with the first one.

Running it through some tests now. I had this problem in v1 as well, with longer posts displaying weird:

This is on a vanilla site without any other plugins than bbPress. And at first I thought this was only with images, but it appears this happens to all long posts.

Its a bit hard to see what changes you made… If you think others would benefit from this create a ticket in trac and add your code as a patch https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/

I’ve slightly modified the bbpress/includes/common/widgets.php file to have an option to show latest posts, not only replies. Curiously, it was half implemented, but not ‘usable’. I don’t know if it has already been done elsewhere as it’s my first post here… Here’s the file, as I can’t post code on the forum %( : http://pastebin.com/PYkmNqQC
