Registered members on the Forum can still see the “Contact” Link below people’s Avatars and I have just tested using a identity I use for testing and have successfully sent a PM to myself as Administrator – this instantly showed “You have 1 message unread” on my Administrator identity and clicking on the link has taken me to the message and all previous messages, just as it always has.
That is not from the private groups plugin That plugin has nothing to do with messaging.
If you care to list the ‘forum type’ plugins you are using, then I might be able to say which is doing this.
Thanks once again for your quick response.
Yes, am happy with most of what you say but somehow the “bbP private groups” plugin does seem to be in some form of limbo. It currently shows “bbP private groups” as disabled on the Plugins page but it is definitely still active. So everything seems to still be there despite the pligin showing itaself as disabled (i.e. it shows links for Activate and Delete).
I need to find a way to properly disable/remove this plugin – one option open to me is to delete the plugin but I fear doing that could make things worse.
Any suggestions welcome.
John

Oh thank you for the quick reply, just to clarify, we have a mix of users that are registered in WordPress and others just registered on our platform; I guess I’m trying to get away from non-Wordpress users also having to register seperatky? Many thanks!
bbpress just uses the WordPress user login, so if they are registered already, they don’t need to re-register to use bbpress.
Similar question; I’m running a woocommerce membership and subscription website; I’d like to include a forum for my users however, they will be already logged in to my site so I don’t want them to register specifically to use this forum / plugin but would like it to already have their username or does this allow users to just add their name manually? Thank you
i also register and login sucessfully see snapshot for reference https://prnt.sc/almKaNSrI07B
ok, I just registered and logged in no problem, do you still have an issue?
Having issues not being able to login and post on https://diverticulitis.club/forums/. (Register page is https://diverticulitis.club/membership-registration/). I register, receive an email ‘Action required to activate your account’ click on that and get a ‘Your registration is complete’ email with a link to https://diverticulitis.club/membership-login/ which doesn’t recognise the password (have checked and double-checked for user error). Alternatively, I can try and login on a thread e.g. https://diverticulitis.club/forums/topic/rant-room/ which also says incorrect password and redirects me to the WP login page. Any help appreciated.
what is the nature of your website, and how many real people are registering per period eg 10 a day, 20 a month
What plugin people use or how do you stop a bunch of spam from registering for your forum? I got hundred and hundred trying to sign up. What is the best plugin? Ive seen people say ones they used eventually locked them out of their own website. I am trying to avoid that. Thanks in advance.
People get this error
message when they try to register . User registration is currently not allowed.
I just installed bb press and installed bbPress WP Tweaks. I am trying to add login and register and lost password however the sidebar does not show. I am using the latest version of WordPress. What other option do I have to allow users to register, etc.
I’ve created pages for my website for register, login, and forgot password to use my forum but when I test it out no email sends to the user. How can I get the emails to send? Not sure if it matters, but I am using Kubio pro for my website theme. I’m new to (and not that good at) building website so any help is appreciated. Thanks.
I tried, I installed bbPress, Block everywhere and Gutenberg 20.6.0 but it doesn’t work. If I don’t install Gutenberg plugin I get critical error on the site. If I install 20.6.0 then I don’t see reply window and see js errors:
Store "core/interface" is already registered.
Uncaught Error: You tried to opt-in to unstable APIs without confirming you know the consequences. This feature is only for JavaScript modules shipped with WordPress core. Please do not use it in plugins and themes as the unstable APIs will removed without a warning. If you ignore this error and depend on unstable features, your product will inevitably break on the next WordPress release.

Hi all,
I’ve been doing a test run today to import my old phpBB board to bbpress, and it worked surprisingly well (as in: the whole process finished without hanging).
In the end, though, I do have a number of problems, and I was wondering if anyone doing a similar import was able to solve them.
– The old board has thousands of registered users (many of them spammers :/ ), and I didn’t want to clutter my WordPress install with all those accounts, especially since it’s a multisite install and I’m mainly migrating the board for archiving purposes. So I didn’t check the “import user accounts” box, but now all user names are just “Anonymous”. Any way to migrate the user names without the accounts?
– It seems like quoted posts are broken, as the “bbcode_quote” tag isn’t applied where it should be.
– Smilies aren’t imported properly. The relative path to the smilies is lost, and when there’s more than one smiley in a row, only the first one has an image tag.
– [img] tags aren’t being properly converted either. Or rather the conversion seems to work ok, but after the actual link, the [img] code, which bbpress can’t read, is retained for some reason.
– Like I said, overall conversion seemed to work well, but cluttered the error log with hundreds of these messages:
PHP Warning: Trying to access array offset on value of type bool in /wp-content/plugins/bbpress/includes/admin/parser.php on line 1289
Anything to worry about?
– I understand that no attachments are imported by default, but maybe someone found a workaround?
Thanks!
Hi Robin,
No, it was myself, some 8-years ago, when I added the forum. Since then we’ve added WP page content, images etc, and I’ve just kept it updated. The addition of the single BBpress forum on one page was very simple using the shortcode “bbp-single-forum”, with no other changes that I recall. Eventually I hope to remove all visible log-in possibilities, relying only on c-panel admin access for update/maintenance purposes.
Maybe I’m missing something here, and removal of the site log-in widget will also remove the login option on the forum page. Did you already take a look to see what I mean? Under the “memories shared” tab, you will see further tabs, one of which is Forum, and that is where the other Login/register section is, below the forum topics. It is this part I would like to see removed so that the page is cleaner.
Is that possible?
Thanks in advance,
Graham.
I am looking to freeze a website and it’s BBpress forum, so that unregistered (and registered) viewers can see the existing content in the forum, but the login form should not appear (currently seen below the forum content) which currently gives the impression they could log-in to make contributions.
WP version 6.7.2
BBpress v2.6.12
BBpress login register links v3.3.5
Twenty Sixteen Theme

Thank you in anticipation.
I am working on https://www.dallasgemandmineral.org/
wordpress version 6.7.1
bbpress 2.6.11
I do have Akismet Anti-spam: Spam Protection v 5.3.5
I am a newbe and lost
I have some forums, and Akismet Anti-spam: Spam Protection is correctly marking things as spam.
I am getting spammed, and anti spam is catching them.
I want to set u the forum so only registered users can post but anyone can reply.
I found one setting that limits posts and replies to registered users,
the situation is this:
Anouther rock club donated equipent, on the condition that if we sell it their members are able to bid. I set up a forum to sell things, by posting a reply to an item for sale.
I had to remove the setting that only registered users can post and reply, because to register you have to be a member of our club.
So is there a way to limit new topics to registered users (to cut out the spam) but allow anyone to reply?
@mentions don’t seem to be working on my forum at sparkt.caadpe.org/forums. I’m using bbpress with Memberpress. How can I troubleshoot this? You can see my attempts here: https://sparkt.caadpe.org/forums/topic/notification-test/. You’ll need to register a free account to see this.
Hi! In setting/Forum I put the role participant to be automatically assigned to every registered visitor, but looks like not being working, because when a new user registers on my website, he/she doesn’t get any role assigned, and I have to do it manually from the dashboard.
Any clue why is did happening?
I am using an external plugin for registration, not the wordpress default option.
Thanks for any help.
Well it still doesn’t work, what if instead of that, I add a select on the form to create a forum, I create it also in the admin panel. how can I do that because I did
add_action('bbp_new_forum_form_after_content', 'add_formation_field_to_forum_form');
function add_formation_field_to_forum_form() {
$formations = get_terms(array(
'taxonomy' => 'formation',
'hide_empty' => false,
));
if (!empty($formations) && !is_wp_error($formations)) {
echo '<div class="bbp-form">
<label for="forum-formation">Sélectionner une formation :</label>
<select name="forum_formation" id="forum-formation">';
foreach ($formations as $formation) {
echo '<option value="' . esc_attr($formation->term_id) . '">' . esc_html($formation->name) . '</option>';
}
echo '</select>
</div>';
}
}
I want to link the forum to the taxonomy formation I think it should be more easier but in that way it doesn’t work I have linked formation to forum by doing
function link_formation_taxonomy_to_forums() {
register_taxonomy_for_object_type('formation', 'forum');
}
add_action('init', 'link_formation_taxonomy_to_forums');
related to your ultimate member plugin, but put this code in your themes additional css
@media only screen and (max-width: 600px) {
.um.um-login, .um.um-register {
width : 70% !important;
}
}
you can change the 70% to alter the width to what you want
Hello, how do I change login/register forms so they are not full width in mobile view?
