    Hello,

I would like to try this plugin with my wordpress.com blog, but I could not find the ‘add plugin’ option in my wordpress admin section.

Can you please explain how I can install this, step by step?

I have already downloaded the bbpress folder to my desktop

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I would like if someone could please tell me all the things should I look for before going live with bbPress. For example security, integration, and recommended plugins.

    Thanks,

PS: I am running bbpress 2.0.3 with WordPress 3.4.1

I have a WordPress (v 3.4.1) site with a custom theme. I have my permalinks set to %postname% and my navigation is hard coded with relative urls (<a href="about">About</a>)

I have installed bbpress (v 2.0.3) and everything works great until I try to leave the forum page. From the forum page, when I click on any link in the nav, it adds /forum to all my urls resulting in a 404 error.

In the bbpress settings I have unchecked the “Prefix your forum area with the Forum Base slug (Recommended)” option, and that did not fix it.

Any help would be appreciated as this site is due to a client by the end of today and I don’t want to use a different Forum plugin.

I had a phpBB forum that I was trying to migrate into my WordPress MU blog.

I used the bbConverter WP Plugin and found that when I tried to migrate the phpBB Forum it imported everything but the users.

So I thought I would do the migration in two stages.

    1. Migrate phpBB forum to Standalone WP Blog (with bbPress Plugin obviously)

    2. Move standalone WP Blog to MU WP Blog

Stage 1 worked fine so my issue (and question) is NOT with phpBB or bbConverter

Stage 2 however didn’t work, when I tried to import the WP backup into a blog in my MU set-up none of the users, forums, topic or replies would import.

So, is there an easier way of migrating a WP Blog using the bbPress plugin INTO a WP MU Blog ?

    Cheers

To my knowledge, bbPress 2.1 would not yet be integrated into BuddyPress groups, as indicated by this punted ticket. Yet in the settings of bbPress 2.1 RC3, there’s a BuddyPress heading, sub-titled “Forum settings for BuddyPress”.

It gives me the option to “Allow BuddyPress Groups to have their own forums”, as well as setting a parent forum for these group forums. I’ve tried playing around with these settings but they don’t seem to have any effect. Am I not understanding its intended use or is the functionality not actually present yet?

    #114296

    That’s fairly accurate.

You don’t have to create a child theme or any of that unless you want to customize the default bbPress theme (bbp-theme-compat). In that case just copy the files you want to customize into your WordPress theme directory and bbPress will use those instead.

I have to go to my bluehost control panel to delete the bbpress plugin and then I can access my dashboard again.

My wordpress account is new so there isn’t much on it. So would memory still be the problem? If so, how would I fix this?

    #112850

In reply to: "start new" link

Create a WordPress page, and use the new topic shortcode: [bbp-topic-form]

I already have Buddypress installed on my wordpress theme. After I install bbpress, I can’t access my dashboard anymore. When I click on dashboard I get this message:

    Server error

The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.

. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.

    How do I fix this?!

You need to increase the memory limit for PHP as it is being exhausted from a script.

thought i had this figured out. I was able to see forum and topics and forum.pureoffroad.com/discuss/

thought i might set wordpress to redirect to that as the home page and that might solve my problem, but before i could do that i get error 500 and nothing works at all now. Whats the deal? I’ve always loved wordpress because it’s so easy to use. figured bbpress would be the same

I’ve searched all day for a solution that works for me to no avail. I have WordPress 3.4.1 installed. I then installed buddy press 1.5.6. After which i selected the sitewide forums which initiated the auto install of bbpress.

i then changed the slugs to make sure they are different.

    i created a sample forum.

    http://forum.pureoffroad.com/discuss/forum/atv-tires-and-wheels/

    then created a sample topic:

    http://forum.pureoffroad.com/discuss/topic/yamaha-atv-tires-and-wheels/

If i browsed to the website there are no forums or topics visible, even though following the direct link from the admin… those pages do exist.

i deleted the original ‘forums’ page created by the buddy press install, then created a new page called discussion boards and affiliated the forums with that page under the buddy press settings – thinking maybe a fresh page might show the forums and topics. Still nothing there:

    http://forum.pureoffroad.com/discussion-boards/

i can’t get forums and topics to show up on the live site. Any ideas. I’ve searched all over the place and installed and uninstalled about 10 times today trying to get an installation that works.

xmasons: Fixed. I incorrectly unbumped the version back to 2.0.

Anyone having issues with 2.0.3 should try bbPress 2.1 RC2.

Since BBpress is now a plugin to wordpress, how do I set it up so that bbpress is really the only thing running. In other words, I want to run bbpress as the index and have the look and feel look like bbpress v1?

I’ve looked all over the forums, and am not sure the answer is listed.

What happened to the 2.0.3 plugin in the WordPress plugin directory?

Thank you for the explanation Jaja.

Unfortunately I have a very cheap provider. I can try and ask them to increase the limit, but before that I’d like to be sure that this is actually the issue.

The thing I don’t understand is why this was working well a few hours ago, and now it’s needing more memory. I didn’t add any plugin. I even removed the existing forums and re-started bbPress from the beginning. It currently has just one forum with just one topic in it.

What I did today (between the moment it was working and the moment it was broken) is try various plugins (all uninstalled now), especially Buddypress, Mingle Forum, Simple:Press, Role Scoper and Groups.

Note that the individual forum page and the topic page work fine. It’s only the main page with the list of forums that generate the error message.

    @Docchewbacca

Contact your hosting-provider and ask them to upgrade the PHP memory. Give them an example of your Error and they’ll know what to do.

    http://ocaoimh.ie/2012/05/16/fatal-error-allowed-memory-size-of-67108864-bytes-exhausted/

Those memory bumps only work if your hosting-provider let you increase this memory. If they don’t and have blocked this feature you have to contact them and ask them friendly to increase it for you.

Most providers don’t care and help you with this problem but sometimes the very cheap M.F&#krs providers don’t and start complaining about everything that is wrong in this world.

    ;)

I’m having the same error but not after upgrading anything.

It worked just fine this morning, throughout the day I installed and uninstalled various plugins (after testing their features and feeling unsatisfied). My site has the same plugins set as this morning, same bbPress and WordPress versions, no other plugin has been updated, but now when I’m trying to reach the main bbpress forums page, I have this error message.

“Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 72 bytes) in /home/users5/a/asceeceteo/www/wordpress/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 137”

    url: http://nantes.ascee-ceteo.fr/forums/

@jaredatch: I tried the memory bump plugin but it didnt fix the problem
