    @manuxel

    Thanks for replying!
Yes they are under same server. I m using cpanel
so the directory of smf is
public_html/smf and for wordpress is public_html/forum.

I entered the previous db details and and put the limit as 100 for Row Limits
This server is shared though but its very fast,

@sachinsud you need to post more info about your situation my friend.
For example, is you WP on the same folder of your SMF? for example
    www/wordpress
    www/smf

How did you input your info in the converter fields?
How long did you wait? Depending on your server it might work reeeeeeeally slow.
What did you input in ROWS LIMIT and DELAY? If you for example input 2000 rows and your server is slow or your in a shared host, it may take several minutes to show something…

    Cheers

    I need some help here.

I want to convert my forum from smf to bbpress.
So what exactly i did is
    1) Installed wordpress and then installed bbpress.
    2) Then i copied the converter file as mentioned https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/attachment/ticket/2380/SMF.3.php to the location where it was mentioned,
    3) I went to my wordpress menu > tools > forum > import forum and i choose SMF.3 from there and filled all the required options. And when i click on convert the bar just stays at Starting Conversion and nothing happens.

What am i doing wrong here šŸ™

Just uploaded a new version of SMF.php, the core changes of the forum import have not changed. The main changes are the regex (regular expressions) to convert SMF’s BBCode.

It is a start and only a few tweaks are left to do, alas it’s 10pm Friday night and I’m done for the night šŸ˜‰

hey thank’s a lot for your help. I’ve added the code but it doesn’t look like it worked.

this is the file I had to modify

    /wordpress/wp-content/plugins/bbpress/templates/default/bbpress/loop-single-reply.php

Not sure I understand what your problem is, but let’s try this in case !

When you create a new user, then only the blog role shows. If you save and then go back in and edit that user, you’ll see the wordpress roles at the bottom of the page which you can then set.

    Hi,

I would like to automate the use of the feature in the topic title. Would someone point me to where in the bbPress code I should look to get assistance? Is there some tool already available to do this?

By way of background, I am going to write and external program to WordPress that adds new posts periodically to an existing forum. I then need to somehow trigger automatically the forum repair process.

    thanks,

Hi .. As a volunteer, I’ve created and run a website for a local dental charity http://www.dentaid.org which uses WordPress and a custom theme. The charity have asked me whether its possible to add a forum within the existing site to allow the dental volunteers who go on organized trips to developing countries to get together before the expeditions and discuss topics, ask questions of the organizer etc. Clearly bbPress is a natural candidate for this but having spent a few hours searching the web, I’m not 100% sure of the right way to proceed (and of what I’ve read, there seems to be several different ways to implement bbPress .. maybe depending upon the level). I would like the forum to work as a self-contained subsystem within the existing web site with one entry URL (www.dentaid.org/forums) which can be added to the nav bar and maintaining the existing header/nav bar and footer, so using the one column full screen width content for bbPress. I think that bbPress will need it’s own styling as I’m sure that the existing style.css won’t be optimal for forums.

I’ve tried putting bbpress shortcodes into new pages as recommended in some of the web articles but although it appears to work, the styling is not ideal and functionally it seems very basic. What I’m aiming for is to put something like the bbPress forum page that I’m using right now into the content of a page on our website while keeping the rest of the website exactly asis. (I would also like to allow new folks to register and/or existing users retrieve their lost passwords from within the bbPress ‘subsystem’ i.e. provide complete forum functionality from within the bbp system.

Any help as to how I go about this would be much appreciated as the charity have decided that this is an urgent requirement for a trip to Uganda coming up soon and I don’t want to go off at a tangent and waste a whole load of time climbing the learning curve. At the moment, I’m confused as to whether I should be using widgets, creating child themes, using shortcodes with my own pages or anything else.

Pointers to web pages, documents, videos or just some good old-fashioned advice will be very welcome.

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Wordpress 3.7.1, bbPress 2.4.1

Users (all roles except Administrators) cannot see the first post in any topic, regardless of it being their own post or not. Changing forum role doesn’t do anything. Only making them Administrator on the wordpress site does. Tried setting default theme and disabling other plugins to no avail.

Not using Wishlist Member and never did. Unsure how to debug, and seen other topics strand with no solution.

Im aware of this plugin and as you can see i’m talking about INLINE IMAGES (so within posts, using bbpress and not external services like imageshack and co.) not basic attachments at bottom of the posts (which is in my opinion absolutely useless for images purposes)

Don’t understand that concept of creating a forum for wordpress if it’s not supported in any way and doesn’t have ultra basic features that any forum plateform has since 300 years BC.

Anyway, already uninstalled bbpress, such a useless plugin.

Check your forum settings, anonymous posting may be enabled.

    https://codex.bbpress.org/forum-settings/

    Anonymous posting
Any site visitor can post a new topic or reply without the need of logging into your site. They will still be required to enter a name and email to post, but will not be required to create a username or password and will not be shown in the list of WordPress Users.

how can I change the sidebar for the forum page?
bbPress WP Tweaks Ā« WordPress Plugins did not work for me.

I was able to remove the blog sidebar and even make the forum full width but what I’d really like to do is add a custom sidebar.

bbPress only includes two views ‘out of the box’ and they are both translatable.

    Most popular topicshttps://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/2.4.1/languages/bbpress.pot#L301
    &
    Topics with no replieshttps://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/2.4.1/languages/bbpress.pot#L305

Check if you have these in a custom function or another plugin.

    Hi Guys,

I’m using WordPress 3.6.1 with forum BBpress 2.3.
I want to move to 2.4.1, but my BBpress can’t see new version.
How i can upgrade it and don’t kill my forum?

Trying to add new users to my bbpress, but only blog roles are available. As soon as I deactivate bbpress, then bbpress roles become available.

Only one other plugin was activated at the time of install. I’ve since done a fresh install of wordpress, deactivating all plugins and then activated bbpress.

Same results – I start with blog users (when only wordpress is installed). I activate bbpress then check user roles again (via “new user”) and still have only blog roles. Then I deactivate bbpress and suddenly the bbpress roles are available.

I don’t understand what is happening with user roles. Any suggestions are most appreciated.

    Hi,

I’m just doing some research for a client and they’d like to migrate all their content (forums, posts and users) from their VanillaForums.com account to bbPress.

I see that after bbPress has been installed, under Import > Forums in the WordPress backend there is an option to import from Vanilla but it doesn’t specify whether it’s their managed .com service or their self-hosted .org service.

Can someone tell me if it’s just one or the other?
If the case, how do I go about finding the database info for a VanillaForums.com account in order to import everything into bbPress?

Thanks for any help in advance,
    Jack

    Hello,

I have a wordpress (3.7.1) site for a writing group with 700+ registered users. Most of the users have “Author” permissions (Because they contribute to the blog on the site.) There are a few editors who moderate the blog, and then a couple of admins.

bbPress (2.0) is installed on this site. The forums should be visible ONLY to those users who are logged in. Additionally there are a few forums which should only be available to select members. (Their board of directors and writers who are published, as two examples.) A user might be a member of both the Board and the Published Authors group, but won’t necessarily be.

I am looking for a plugin or a method for handling the security that will allow me to easily handle this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Yes you will set each one up.

    Go into Dashboard>users>add new user

In there you will see a box to uncheck that they don’t see the toolbox, a wordpress role – I set to none for this site.

Once you have set them up and clicked save, then go back in to edit that user and you’ll see at the bottom options for their bbpress, which you’ll set to participant.

nicoblue: I checked your website and – as far as I can see – you solved the problem. I’ve the same issue now; could you help me with the solution?

    Wordpress version: 3.5.1
    BBpress version: 2.3.2
Theme: Default Twenty-eleven (from earlier WP) with my own minor modifications

The problem is the same: the bbpress forum style on the full-width pages are working flawless. But when I use the shortcode, the floating elements are broken, for example the pagination is messed up. The styling was okay a year ago, but I updated bbpress not so long ago, after I did not checked the shortcode pages (my bad…), and yesterday I faced with the problem.

    I show you the difference:

On full-width page, without shortcode (perfect):

    Link: http://www.radu.hu/forum/f/kerdesek-a-pontos-adatokkal-kapcsolatban/

With shortcode, pagination and other styles are broken:

    Link: http://www.radu.hu/hasznos-eszkozok/jo-minosegu-backteszt-adatok/adatok-letoltese/

At the bottom of the page, the new topic box (the border) is wrong:

    Link: http://www.radu.hu/hasznos-eszkozok/jo-minosegu-backteszt-adatok/adatok-letoltese/

If anyone could give me a hint… šŸ™‚

I have been coming to some realizations as to what exactly is happening and some ideas on how to tackle the issues. The solutions I will propose will not be optimal, but better than the current default.

When using bbPress for new user registration they are actually using the WordPress system for user registration. Now I have tried a few plugins to avoid spam with user registration but most seem old and none seem to work out of the box. Welp, if you cant beat them, join them. Instead of using the bbPress registration form maybe I will direct the user to the WordPress backend, or a page similar to the default WordPress backend that I stylize to look like my site’s page. There I can include links back to the forum and they dont get this feeling like they have left my site.

Regarding the registration email, this is actually the WordPress registration email. You can change this to your liking with a host of plugins.

Overall I think there are a lot of rough edges. I cannot ask for too much since this is free, but given the number of support issues revolving around these topics it would be cool if bbPress could incorporate these features on its own. It would make this great plugin just that much cooler.

    Cheers!

    Thanks for the tips Robin!

I got the forum page set up in the site’s menu and it looks like the widgets you mention were already included when I uploaded bbPress, so I put them into the sidebar. I am still not exactly clear on how I would set up a user after they sign up with the contact form 7. Would I need to create their username and password etc and where do I set them up? Also, when I log out as a user, I am getting an error page that says ā€œOops, this link appears to be broken.ā€ This is the link: http://www.successintention.com/forums/forum/success/?loggedout=true
You also mention that the user will have “no role for this siteā€ for wordpress. Where do I set this up?

    Thanks,
    Suzanna

This will take you several stages but should get you where you want to be

    1. For your forum page

Create a page called forum or forums. In the body of the page type the following code

    [bbp-forum-index]

    And save

If your menu auto-creates then this will appear, if not go into dashboard>appearance>menus

    2. Create a register form

    Download contact form 7

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/contact-form-7/

set up a page called ā€˜register’, and put a registration for in there

    3. Download bbpress WP tweaks

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbpress-wp-tweaks/

This will give you a bbpress sidebar that your forum page will use

Go into dashboard>appearance>widgets and populate this with

    (bbpress) login widget

The url for register will be the page you set up under 2 – so populate this with ā€œ/registerā€, and the lost password url will be ā€œ/lost-passwordā€

    (bbpress) forums list

    (bbpress) recent topics

    (bbpress) recent replies

And anything else you want to add

    4. When someone sends in a form (it’ll be emailed to you) then you can set them up, and ensure that they don’t get the toolbar. They will have ā€œno role for this siteā€ for wordpress, and ā€œparticipantā€ form bbpress.

That should be enough to get you going, but come back if you need more !

    Hi there,

I want to change the text in the buttons above the reply box, for example: I would like to change ‘b-quote’ to ‘block quote’.

Does anyone know how to do this?

    I’m running WordPress 3.5.1 and BBPress 2.3.2.

    Cheers,

    Damian
