In reply to: Group forum posting causing redirect loop
Ok done.
We haven’t been able to reproduce this bug on our own site yet. I’ll let you know if we find anything.
Hmmm, that’s strange. We haven’t experienced anything like that on our site. Are you running any kind of caching or minification plugin?
I’m not asking for something that’ll work out of the box. Some pointers on what pieces of code to look at to have a go at this ourselves would go a really long way. Same goes for excluding forums and topics from default index.
I guess. The two are so closely intertwined now that there are some big grey zones materializing ๐
Thanks a bunch for releasing this, very interesting stuff! Will be playing around with this for sure. Best of luck with the theme review ๐
In reply to: Sub forums in bbpress 2.3 and buddypress 1.7What about assigning tag(s) to a group instead, like you do it on WPORG? Wouldn’t that be a good way to at least make it a bit more flexible while working towards the ‘multiple forums per group’ ?
In reply to: Fancy Editor always in WYSIWYG mode …Defaulting to plain-text, like bbpress.org now does, seems like a perfectly good compromise to me.
Thanks for sharing @will-brownsberger . So it’s been 3 weeks, how are you doing? ๐ There’s also a mention of a fix in that thread you linked to, but I’m not sure if it’s been applied yet.
We’re on a constant lookout for bbPress-compatible plugins to use on jmonkeyengine.org. It could really save us from a very costly hardware/hosting investment.
In reply to: How to not gray-out closed topics. Thanks a lot, this is a very welcome tweak! I never did understand the point behind this “feature”. I rarely close topics because the OP shouldn’t be read at all…
Is there a way to safely override this css in my child-theme’s style.css as well, maybe by importing the bbpress.css? The problem with your method is that the change will be overwritten as soon as bbPress is updated.
In reply to: bbPress 2.2.4 ReleasedWhen you you think images uploading problem will be fixed? I mean that default users canโt upload images now using TyniMCE editor.
I think that’s intentional for now. See this:
bbPress dev chat summary Jan 9, 2013@ridecbrcom-1 Supporting older bbPress versions is not within our scope I’m afraid.
@johnjamesjacoby ‘least we could do!
@limitx3m nope, and it’s not likely to be made either. Votes on our forum are applied much like on reddit: some “go gold” because they shared quality content, while some might’ve just cracked a good joke. We would need a different voting system altogether (for which there are long-term plans in place) to make such a thing valuable – i.e. for our purposes, “top posts” should be the informative ones, not the funny ones, as newcomers probably wouldn’t get most of the jokes anyhow. Here’s a real world scenario:
When we went from BuddyPress forums to bbPress, we were left with some niche “Project” forums. As opposed to our most frequented forums like “Troubleshooting” and “Development”, these forums were the only ones that actually merited group-integration back when that was the only way to create a forum.
After migrating, it would make sense to couple these forums together with their respective groups again. However, we don’t want to do that if it means changing the URLs, which would not only disturb the user experience as explained above, but also cause some trouble with our redirects.
thanks @xmasons , I’ve notified destro about it.
Dangit, should’ve subscribed. That’s great news, I’ll be checking it out.
In reply to: Fancy Editor always in WYSIWYG mode …Well,ย Here’s a test from my nexus s. Seems to work, but it’s slow and there’s no proper text box, so I’m quickly writing outside my screen.
In reply to: Fancy Editor always in WYSIWYG mode …I tested it on bbpress.org right now (which btw is definitely not mobile-friendly overall).
Seems to work better than before now, maybe it’s got to do with the chopped down editor functionality. One big problem still is that you can’t easily highlight text for special formatting, since that’ll just zoom you out. Different interaction models like that just makes the wysiwyg tools rather redundant for mobile.
In reply to: Fancy Editor always in WYSIWYG mode …What about the other way around? I’ve run into a lot of problems with the fancy editor when I’m browsing with my mobile phone. Most elegant of all would be to default to text-editing when a mobile device is detected, but a global text-by-default would be a good start.
@yellowwinter bbPress 2, aka the “bbPress Plugin” is the future of bbPress, and I’d wager it’s quickly becoming more prevalent than bbPress 1.1 and older. Any plans on that end?
In reply to: Archive legacy bbpress.org postsExcellent, many thanks. And by the way, I hope you agree that part of the search should be opt-out, not -in. Only the old-timers around here are gonna want to dig further back into the archives.
@JJJ I’m a bit confused. I thought you had bbPress working well with both W3TC and WPSC early on [1]. Did some things change or is is simply a matter of unknown issues eventually surfacing?
@JohnConners any news? I know a lot of people who’d love to know more about any new findings you might have made.@moderators please get this spammer out of here.
In reply to: Archive legacy bbpress.org postsExcluding older threads in the search would definitely be a very acceptable compromise.
In reply to: Don't@masada there is already a fully functional “unread posts” plugin on wordpress.org, and a new one coming from a developer that I know (it approaches the problem a bit differently, so it is its own plugin instead of an extension of “Mark as Read”) should be out in a couple of days.
In reply to: Updated forum user profilesAnd if you’re using bbPress in conjunction with BuddyPress, the mentions will point to BP profiles instead?
