  • Aw Kevin dear, thanks for understanding me lol.

This speech we talk about, was held last month, has there been any development?

Its amazing that only four people are behind WordPress, plus some new ones now. To me, it seems like WordPress is a company on the level of Apple. I imagined there would be hundreds of employes behind WordPress. They really give the impression of being the most professional people in the business of cloud-computing.

Same goes for BBpress. And to learn that most of this business is handled on forums and chatrooms is almost near the point of being unbelievable.

I imagined huge office landscapes, designer glasses, modern art on the walls, a brass mailbox full of offers to buy the company.

To learn that what we say on these forums, actually gets noticed by the makers is a huge privilage though. That never happens on places like Apple.com. Imagine Steve Jobs going, on the launch of iPhone 4: “So this guy Marius on the forums, really gave us a hard time about this the other day, so we decided….”

I think Matt sounded very smart. Like a young Steve Jobs.

If what he say is true about BBpress just copying a bunch of wordpress code, making it hard to update, I think a plugin sounds greater.

I dont see why this future plugins should be incompitable with my current installation though.

As a user, I expect a future edition to carry on what I have now built.

Themes is okay to renew, but my forum posts and users, I would very much like to keep.

Thats the stupidest advice I have gotten in all of 2010.

That… told me nothing, sorry. What are you meaning to say?

How else should I send an email to hundreds of users? You think I should sit and send one by one?

I want BBPress to be a standalone program. But I want it to be possible to include it as a page in WordPress.

Is Avatars integrated as basic functionality?

Wouldnt it be great, if users who double posted, automatically submited their second post into their last?

No edit or nothing. An auto-protection against double post. That detects a users double post, and instead of making an entirely new post, it inserts their message at the bottom of the last one. Of course, if no posts has been made in between by other users.

Im the same as you. Have a look at what I did with my BBPress: http://www.michaeljackson.no/forum

I have only one category, and 35 posts on top, and users never go into that bottom category selection at all. If they do, it would appear exactly the same.

So my forum now works only as one big category. And it has been very successfull thanks to that. I have disabled tags though.

If you really want to go further than me, you can make the category selection invisible.

Hi, forgot this was my problem.

Where should I put that php code?

In reply to: new to BBpress

wow, just had a look at php bb forum… thats ugly man. You should switch to bbpress because it looks nice.

In reply to: Plugins You Want !!!

Mergin and splitting topics for sure. That would help alot.

I just want to use this oportunity to say thanks to you johnhiler.

I dont like that Kevin-guy so much, but Im a big enough man to see when he is right about weaknesses in my behaviour.

Even though we did not solve this problem, thank you for putting on the effort in trying to help me out.

I guess some times I just get too carried away with the creative process, so I tend to forget about the moral and ethical side of it.

I have great belief in BBpress, and I trust that it will have a bright future. So I´d rather wait and stick with BBpress, as I have it currently set up, and maybe some day a new poll plugin will surface. Good things comes to those who wait.

Oh I listen, I just dont agree with your views. That should be clear.

Whats not clear to me, is that you seem to ignore the fact that BBPress is a launched project for public use.

If its not useable, then it shouldnt be ready for download and use.

You call me angry and ignorant, which Im not. But thats exactly the way I see you. Only causing more trouble than resolutions. Im not gonna argue with you about all the details you are so unecesary listing up here.

Im quite fond of BBPress, perhaps respecting it way more than you do. I´ve written about it in several other forums, advertising how great it is. All you do is sit here and say its not ready for use.

You have linked to this? I must have overlooked it, and still, after looking again, see no such thing.

On bbprogress.com it starts with a message of being closed. You did not even link to this, you just mentioned it. So after some googling I found it, and among the plugins listed, there is no Shoutbox there.

Well, is there any other chatbox plugins than Ajaxed Chat?

Just because my needs are specific, it doesnt mean I cant compromise.

How can you say thats not likely to happen? Do you speak for absolutely everyone who makes, or will make a plugin in the future?

A simple no is enough. If there is no such plugin, fine, too bad for me.

I dont think a simple chatbox is something thats specific to me and my needs alone. I think its a perfectly logical thing to make in context with the philisophy of BBPress.

I want a box on the side of the forum, with two fields.

One field of posted messages, and one input-field to write them in.

I dont want tabs, smileys, list of users, links to php-shit, bubbles-background, different colors in text or bb code buttons at all.

Just a simple simple SIMPLE chatbox.

Look at my _shout_box on http://www.michaeljackson.no. Thats a plugin called WP-Wall, and its great.

I want something similar to that, just optimised for chatting.

When I say optimised, I mean = room for more comments with better readability, and live refreshing.

I have said this before, downgrading is not an option.

Why even have two versions for download, if you all want us to donwload 0.9?

You say backwards compitability never has been a goal. What I fear is that, lets say some time in the future I decide to upgrade to a new version of BBPress. With a completely new theme, and possibly reinstall it. Will I be able to keep the users and posts?

And I have to say, polls, image support and text formatting is standard. Its what everyone has used on forums for ten years. So theres no reason they shouldnt be included as standard, from my point of view.

Also, please stop banging the drum that BBpress is not ready for use if you have no skills etc. I think you are destroying your userbase by doing this. You are scaring people away, and its not true either. I have pretty much zero skills, and have managed to get a pretty decent looking forum up and running.

Well, hopefully the solution to this problem isnt entirely on my shoulders.

There are other people experiencing the same out there. Maybe someone can figure out how to solve this on their own. Without my participation. *Crossing fingers*

Can this have something to do with Ajax support failing, server-wise?

Yeah, I havent made a separate theme. I´ve edited the original Kakumei that came with the software. So theres no “default theme” any more. Just one.

It seems you ran into this problem on other setups too, didnt you say so? Cause I see you´re doing the process of elimination, but I´m not the only one having this problem, so it must be something more universal.

Well I appreciate you trying to be helpful. I just cant hand out important stuff like that without knowing exactly how and when it will be used.

After this topic was created, I had a guy that registered on my forum to diss MJ and stink up the place by calling him a pedophile etc. Not much fun for the other members.

Well, add me to msn in case then: marius @ reager .no

I need direct contact for this type of deal.

But I asked earlier: is this worth it? Making an old plugin work?

Or should I forget about it, and wait for bbpress 1.1? Cause I understand a poll feature will be included there…

well, thats impossible to point out… what shall I do?

bare in mind that I use 1.02

    edit:

Alright, to really put on an effort, I have tried to deactivate all plugins but the Polls. One by one, and all at once. Still no save-button.

That would the ideal thing, that “Send” button inlude the poll as well. But theres absolutely no way to include the poll during topic creation now.

Did you scan with firebug? Cause I dont see the code for the save button anywhere in the php.
