Yes it was, and still is stupid.
There was things I could have done much better, but the absolute best thing, would be if you could do this with BBPress.
Please do it then. I got spamblocked for having sent out a mass email to all my members.
Theres no way around this. We need this function tell all members something. In reply to: Avatars, more plugins than images.
BBpress doesnt have integrated avatar support, but gravatar.
This means that users on your forum must completely leave your forum and resort to a different service to create their picture. Then they must go back, and combine these.
To most people, this is too much work to bother with.
Most people just wanna upload their picture into their profile page (which is way too hard to find) and be done with it. They even prefer not having to do any resizing. The forum should do this for them.
The plugin caused readability problems. A fix was never provided. I followed the advice to stop using it. Has it been updated?
I just had a look at topicstarters forum. THis is a kid who wants to spam the board. Just bozo him. Built in plugin.
Wouldnt reccomend either Akismet nor Mass Delete plugin.
I wish all us other users could have it like this.
I view this support forum as sort of the default showcase for what bbpress is.In reply to: Matt is jumping back to bbPress
Great. Sounds really great.
I dont know if he will achieve anything, but his smartness in speeches should atleast indicate it.
Gautam, worked perfect. And it was very easy to do with your great plugin.
´Please understand that this does not affect any software that has tr.im available within it. tr.im’s API is available, and redirections are working normally.´
Ahem. Tr.im is claming this.
I was not aware of this website at all, but is it perhaps used to shorten urls for the Social It-plugin, to post them to Twitter?
So Social It is what causes this problem?
How come all other topics looks okay? But this topic suffers, and all others created afterwards?
I just created three test topics which all suffered from the same bug.
Before I do that, I want to through a wild hypothesis out there.
This topic has the topic ID “331”.
And my forum now has exactly 133 registered users. Is there a crash between these numbers?
It seems this is not unique to this topic at all.
Suddenly, ALL topics created after this topic was created one hour ago, will mess things up. No matter whats written in the header.
Here is a picture too:
Which is a strong indication that a huge majority of BBPress users wants the functionality offered by many of your plugins. Which should make it obvious that many of them should be built straight into BBpress by default.
So does the bb-nospamuser have any advantages compared to human test ?
I believe your theory about them never getting the password is correct.
Great and all. Though this happened FOUR THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED AND THIRTEEN downloads ago.
Fail or not?
Yeah I had the mass delete plugin before, but it messed up the order of posts. It created a problem where suddenly, the freshest posts would not show. It paralysed discussions.
I just like to have controll over my users. I want to know that people registering are real, so I can know exactly how many users I have on my forum. I take this very seriously.
Also, there is the fear of these bots being inactive, then suddenly coming back and spamming the place down. And lets say I had ignored all spambots, and they go off like a bomb together… would not be nice.
After a year of running this forum, this seems unlikely, so its mostly about prevention, and what ifs. But like I said, I really want accounts to be authentic people.
They have similiar email adresses, exact same specifications for interests, occupation, website, and location.
Oddly, they list my website as theirs. They are registered almost at the same time, which breaks the normal flow of registrants I usually have. I never get three new members in two minutes.
They are also named similarly, like “Cecilie” and “Cecilia”. Often with english names these bots, which again is not typical for my norwegian forum.
And of course, they never post.
Human Test have prevented absolutely all spambots from registering since I installed it. For almost a year, untill yesterday.
But its common for all of these spambot registrations, that they have the exact same interests.
I would prefer that no spambots register at all, but when they appear so sophisticated, I hesitate with deleting them right away.
Human Test is kind of old now, and there are new programs out there like this: https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/nospamuser/
That any good? Or better? Can you run both?
