  • Is it just me? No easy way to mark a false spam in Askimet to put it through. You have to click a link called “view”, which gives brings you to the topic, shows you everything that has been deleted in red, and only then gives you the spam comment which you can approve. Seems a bit obtuse.

For some reason, RC1 is having a problem connecting to my database. Followed the instructions to the letter. Ran the install and set all the database info to the same as before. Clicked the additional settings because I’m on dreamhost, which doesn’t use ‘localhost’. Everything saves just fine. Config file appears with proper settings in my bbpress directory. Go to step 2 and get “ERROR: Could not establish a database connection”. Double checked everything, did another clean install, still doesn’t work.

BBPress shares a database with my wordpress installation, and wordpress sees the DB just fine.

    Any ideas?

I’ve tried the last few versions, and always get the following errors:

Warning: mysql_error(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/wordpress/bbpress/bb-includes/backpress/class.bpdb.php on line 377 along with:

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can’t connect to local MySQL server through socket ‘/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock’ (2) etc.

This happens between doing an upgrade or a clean install, no plugins. Any ideas?

I edited my post.php, and added <?php post_author_avatar(); ?> to the second line. Worked like a charm.

Doh! Secrets stored in the database didn’t match. Edited and now everything works fine. Not sure how that happened, but thanks!

I have the same problem with 2.5 and .9.01. Driving me crazy logging back in every time I switch. Yes, remember me is checked, and it’s happening on multiple browsers. Cookies are working fine for me everywhere else.

I’ve got the same problem with no plugins enabled, tested under both IE and Firefox

In reply to: Using RSS Feeds

I’m running bbpress 0.8.3.1 integrated into my wordpress 2.3.3. BBPress is in the same database as my WordPress. The problem is, I can’t get a feed from the front page. If I point Feedburner or whatever to bbpress, it discovers a feed (wordpressblog/bbpress/rss.php), but it returns a not valid error. If I go to it in my browser, I get a blank page.

I’ve tried reinstalling bbpress, and switching to the default theme to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

RCanine – that code works perfectly! Fixed the problem in titles and posts. Thanks!

Anyone ever figure a way to do this? As I’ve got lots of topics, I’d love for users to be able to click through pages going back in time, as you can in WordPress.

One thing to be careful about with email notifications, is being seen as a spammer. Since I’ve got over 500 people on my list, some big providers have blocked me, even though I have a strict opt-in policy on my site. Now I have a huge list, and most people can’t get their emails. Using other smtp providers only works a few times before you get blocked again. People need to be educated on the benefits of Rss.

This is a great plugin… but, I don’t want every post to go to bbpress. It would be really cool to have a checkbox, that would only send it to bbpress if it was checked. Anyone care to tackle that?
