    What Pippin wrote is not entirely true:
    the screenshot above is from the current development version 2.2-bleeding!

    In current public release v2.1.2 this is NOT possible yet.

    Hope that helps, Dave πŸ™‚

    Just released v1.1.0 of my plugin!
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-string-swap/

    It add the previous/next string parameters for Topic & Reply pagination.
    So this also very handy for changing this via bbPress main settings πŸ™‚

    Enjoy!

    I’ve released a small bbPress Plugin called β€œString Swap” where you can easily change a few breadcrumb parameters as well as some other strings for the frontend. — bbPress 2.1.2+ required!

    You can check it out here:

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-string-swap/

    After installing/activating, look on the bbPress Settings page where there is a new section then πŸ™‚

    Hope this helps some users πŸ™‚

    @Lynq:
    Thanks for the tip!
    Never saw the “Forum Search” here – nice but not what I really want.

    That would mean 6 searches (because we have 6 forums here currently) plus using the additional “Reply Search” if I am in a long (single) topic thread…

    Also, both search boxes are only visible at second or third sight, better would be the occasional search box at the top or so…

    And if we are already on topic: just implement a proper search in bbPress core, that’s what the users want. Every user that asked me for any bbPress 2.x help wanted a proper forum search. Everyone. Period. So there’s really a need for that. (I’d love to drop my search widget plugin ASAP!!!)

    One could find some information, yes, but it’s really ineffective and NOT how it should be as an native implementation.

    A proper full text search over the complete forum – and an extra search over the Codex here – or both combined would be of greatest usefulness for all users here I guess!

    If it’s not possible just implement a proper Google Custom Search (already on WordPress.org…) — maybe I am doing just that for myself: setting up another Google Custom Search because the current situation does just not satisfy me (and don’t fits to this community here IMHO).

    Thanks, Dave πŸ™‚

    What version of bbPress do you use?
    If you have 2.0.x then Genesis compatibility is included already.

    But with newest versions 2.1+ you also need the Genesis Connect plugin called “bbPress Genesis Extend” to be installed which can be downloaded here:
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-genesis-extend/

    Hope that helps, Dave πŸ™‚

    @HansRuedi Keller:
    These strings are from the template files for bbPress that this theme as bundled – so you need to contact the theme author that he updates his stuff – obviously he has not updated to 2.1+ compatibility yet.

    You can also update this yourself:
    1st alternative: delete the packaged bbPress template files from the theme and use bbPress “Theme Compat” (in bbPress settings)
    2nd alternative: edit the template files yourself, use the theme’s textdomain for all strings and make your own translations/language files then.

    This should work then.

    @netweb
    :
    User @HansRuedi Keller is already aware of this using/installing stuff πŸ™‚

    A fully tested, improved German language pack in formal and informal version is here to found:

    This is created and maintained by me since the 2.x branch!

    You should also try this great free plugin: “bbPress Antispam”

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-antispam/

    It works similar to the awesome “Antispam Bee”:

    …you might also try that plugin for sidebar placement:

    @daveshine

    The plugin section on bbpress.org is only related to the old standalone branch, for all things bbPress 2.x look at WordPress.org repository:

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/bbpress

    Also, support questions for bbPress 2.x plugins are better placed in the specific plugin support forums for each plugin! The chance the authors see it and respond is much higher than here!

    For the sidebar issue with “bbPress WP Tweaks” plugin:

    These issues are more THEME-related than plugin-related! The problem some theme do a little crazy things with their sidebar management or registration so we have sometimes a hard time to get such things working.

    Have you any URLs to your sites or could give the theme names/URLs?

    For the above mentioned plugin you might also have a look at the plugin specific support forum here:

    https://wordpress.org/tags/bbpress-wp-tweaks?forum_id=10

    Maybe also “bbPress Moderation” might help a bit:

    @daveshine

    You can also maintaining plugin and theme translations with the awesome “Codestyling Localization” plugin: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/codestyling-localization/

    “fi” is the correct locale for Finnish!!

    Placing the language files in /wp-content/languages/ is already prepared in bbPress 2.x but unfortunately it does not work yet (since 2.x branch!) – it would be nice seeing that fixed as overriding language files via updates is no fun at all!

    Thanx, Dave :)

    I don’t agree here. SimplePress has do many features for a lot of users/use cases. Yes, it works, it’s active developed and maintained. I tested the new 5.0 beta two weeks ago and it’s still feature overload and a totally different user interface different from “normal” WP… And regarding translation they don’t go with WP standards here and so until they fix some things I could not get it into German. Old 4.x branch is no option because I need optimized code for a new project and also future-proof with WP 3.3+

    bbPress — I only mean the plugin version 2.x — on the other hand is really simple but has all I need. It works with almost any theme/framework and I could easily tweak it via CSS. This is a big advantage. Performance-wise it’s really leightweight and future-proof with WP because of custom post types for forum contents.

    YES, I know it has not so many features – a few could be added via plugin add-ons – and I assume a lot more will come in the next weeks or month.

    IMHO bbPress 2.x is best for small to middle-range communities, best for simple support forums and such. If I need a full packed forum solution with ALL the many and big features I almost always will use a third-party solution like Vanilla, IPB or new XenForo. These have clean style and great UI in frontend AND backend. And with some work of integrating could be work together with WordPress too. — Just look at the newly launched support forum by iThemes.com – they use IPB Forums and it’s great for such a big community.

    However, there are some great new bbPress forums out there, see at devpress.com, wpcandy.com, support.pippinsplugins.com, getshopped.com etc. So the bbPress plugin has already proven to manage such communities and they’re doing great.

    I vote for bbPress and at the same time have much respect for the work of the Simple:Press devs but just would not use their system!

    I see you’re using Genesis – so you could hook in via functions.php or Simple Hooks Plugin and just add some content/message after that notice.

    bbPress already has a shortcode for registering: [bbp-register]

    So you might add that via Simple Hooks which supports placing of shortcodes.

    @daveshine

    Back in summer I had similiar issues with the betas and RC’s… When I had templates in theme/child theme and combined bbPress functions.php with my theme/child theme’s functions.php I had problems with still enqueueing the scripts from the included bbPress-twentyten, so I just removed these lines of code from my combined functions.php and got it working. After that my template files/css etc. were called and used correctly.

    It’s only a suggestion to just check the source code of your forum index what stylesheets and what scripte are loaded from what source. Then compare it with the calls from the functions.php files. Maybe you can find some issue…

    I didn’t liked all these combining and integrating so I just added some css rules to my theme stylesheet (most with “!important” but I don’t care that much about this…) and left all other on default bbPress which worked best for me :)

    Hope this helps a bit, Dave :)

    I noticed the same thing as you and just released a small and leightweight plugin for that:

    bbPress Search Widget

    Info & download at WP.org:

    I hope it’s useful for you.

    Have fun :)

    @Erlend:

    I know this already, but that doesn’t help here yet because the plugin developers have to implement the gettext strings first, so it actually becomes translateable.

    That’s a pity with a lot of great plugins: all hard-coded text strings so nearly unuseable for international users. Since we’re two thirds of all WordPress users worldwide – and growing – localization/internationalization is a really hot and important topic. EVERY WordPress developer should consider this.

    In NO way I want to disregard the awesome work of the devs of this support plugin just encourage them to make this final step :-)

    -Thanx, Dave :)

    As I really liked the general approach of this plugin I have some errors/requests to report:

    With the plugin installed I couldn’t save the the bbPress settings anymore – gave php errors…

    Also, the plugin for me would only make sense if it’s localized properly – as of now all texts/strings are hardcoded. So for my sites in Germany the plugin is unuseable as of now but I would like to use it once it’s translateable.

    So thanx for taking your time to develop this and hopefully it will be translateable one day :-)

    Thanx, Dave from Germany :)

    You can use a new plugin for that to re-store the behavior with different user profile pages for BuddyPress and bbPress:

    Hope this works for you, Dave :)

    I am so sorry for you! I hope I could help you out soon. I got mine working with Jared’s plugin patch – I just experimentet with his code line for the layout option and have all working like I want it.

    My above report you quoted was regarding the patch from John for bbPress core which was not working at that time (or the last time I tested it a few days ago…). So I am sorry if you got confused because of my report…

    Please have also a look here and especially for Nathan’s posts:

    Hi there!

    Thanx to Jared for the plugin solution – working smoothly :) Awesome now I can use bbPress for a client site forum running with Genesis!

    @John:

    Thanx for the patch! – I’ve implemented this in my local rc4 of the bbPress plugin – but didn’t work yet! I assume the issue is from a wrong setting of the layout option?? Or some other function? Since I am still learning this whole coding stuff I cannot say what the issue is at the moment.
