Question, Help needed!

Published on August 12th, 2012 by mooapo

Hi….

I am using the HTML5 Reset Blank theme, and I am designing the theme from scratch. The question I have is this, is bbPress a Theme, or is it just a Forum Page…. Sorry if I am confusing you.

I guess what I am asking is this, can I just create a Page in my Blog called forum, add the Forum to that page using the short code?

Thank you….

Replies not showing up even on 2010 theme and no plugins!

Published on August 11th, 2012 by AAShepAA
  1. I have deactivated all plugins with no change
  2. I have changes to 2010 them with no change

Here is the scenario:

  1. I receive an email telling me there has been a new reply

(For example:New topic/reply awaiting moderation on your site Stratoliner.me – Deluxe, Roadliner, Stratoliner Forums: http://www.stratoliner.me

2430

bbPress 0.8.3 is compatible with WordPress 2.3

  1. I click the link to the reply and it shows up as a single reply as it should but this weird ending in the link:http://www.stratoliner.me/forum/reply/reply-to-dark-side-people-comin-back-to-the-light-side-7/#.UCbm6qn_TOE
  2. I go to the site and click the link in the sidebar under “Latest Replies” and it come to this page:http://www.stratoliner.me/forum/topic/dark-side-people-comin-back-to-the-light-side/#post-2430 (Notice that now it is referencing #post-2430 the one mentioned in the email notification that I received.
  3. HOWEVER – post 2430 is not there in the list of replies.
  4. This is happening with several replies – but when I post a reply it shows up.

I could really use some help as I am stumped. Thanks,Shep

User profile page being treated as blog post

Published on August 11th, 2012 by joethephish

Hey,

My company’s website uses a custom wordpress theme, and we’ve been adding bbpress compatibility to it directly (rather than using a child theme). We’ve been working on a staging server initially, before installing the updated theme on the main site.

We got everything working very nicely on the staging server, but the main one seems to have problems. Here’s an example:

  • A sample user page: http://www.inklestudios.com/forums/users/joethephish – It seems to be using some data internally from the blog. The article id is “post-561” which actually corresponds to this blog post: http://www.inklestudios.com/archives/561
  • The fact that it’s been treated as a blog post means that it’s been structured and styled slightly differently too, and is getting related classes to the tags from the blog post.

I’m very confused, because supposedly there’s no difference in setup between the staging server and the live one.

I have a single top level template file for the forums: forum.php, which looks like this:

    get_header(); ?>                        <!-- ?php comments_template( '', true ); ? -->                 <!-- .left-column -->                 <!-- .right-column -->            <!-- #content -->

Some confusing and strange behaviour.

I would like to avoid all of the typical wordpress “backend” stuff for my users. For example, when a user registers, he just gets redirected back to whatever page he was at beforehand – there is no notification page or “success” page, just a redirect – how are my users to know they should check their email? How can I create a page that simply says “thank you for registering, please check your email for your username and password” after they register?

I would like to avoid getting redirected to the default “/wp-login.php” and instead use the bbpress login page I created. I would also like to use the bbpress registration page I made (using the shortcode and template) instead of “/wp-login.php?action=register”. Is this possible?

I would like to keep users on the front end of the site.

I created a page for forgotten passwords – after a user fills out the form, they are simply redirected – no notification of what just happened, no message that says “Your password is being email to you”, how can I go about making this more user friendly? If someone uses incorrect login detail, they simply get redirected to “/wp-login.php”, I would like them to stay on the “front end” of the site (I have a login page there after all).

Why does everything redirect in some way or another to “/wp-login.php”? How can I integrate this fully into the site without always jumping to a wordpress page?

Second issue, I seem to be having a problem with some of the other page, if I try to view members or a single member I get a 404. When going to “/index.php/forums/users/”. Any idea why these pages do not work?

Here is my domain: http://www.tbgamers.com

Thanks, I’d appreciate any help.

Rating-Widget doesn't work on bbPress comments

Published on August 11th, 2012 by Howdoisound

I’ve installed the bbPress Rating-Widget and cannot get any of the rating themes to show in on the comments on my bbPress forums. I would like users to have the ability to rate the quality of comments, not forum topics. I am I missing something in the installation process? The plugin works on blog posts, oddly, but not bbPress. Thanks for your kind help. Daniel

Obtaining a Forum Listing in a Custom Sidebar Widget

Published on August 11th, 2012 by Good in Today

Okay, so I’ve been asking around and it would seem that no one has any answers for this. I’m hoping that the Key Master will assist. I need to correctly modify / call the Forums List into a Sidebar Widget. The Widget has four tabs(this is why I can not use your stock Widget). I have it working but I do not have something right as when you are in the Topics List for any Forum the Categories tab of my Widget shows nothing at all and then when you’re actually reading a Topic the Categories tab reads ‘Oh bother! No Forums Found.’

What I’ve done so far is copied BOTH loop-forums.php AND loop-single-forum.php, renamed them, modified loop-forums.php(the new modified version is what my sidebar Widget is calling so the original forums remain unaffected by all of this) so that it calls my new loop-single-forum.php, and finally I’ve removed all the bits from loop-single-forum.php that I did not want and / or need to display in my sidebar Widget.

As I said, this DOES work but there are two specific screens(in the Forums area, oddly enough) that my sidebar Widget is not functioning properly on. Any thoughts as to how I can properly modify loop-single-forum.php so that it will properly work? Any assistance would be most appreciated, thank you for your time.

Andrew

p.s. You can see this Widget in action (or lack there of), if it helps at http://gitfit.tv.
