Forum Banner / Text Insert

Published on September 15th, 2013 by justinheron

Hi Guys

I know WordPress to a reasonable level but am completely new to forum building and BBPress. I am hoping my question has a simple answer and is probably me missing something very simple.

I have set up the forum for a charity I am working with, its installed fine and we have some test topics up and running. No problems.

The installation provides me with a forum address of http://mydomain.com/forums/forum/forum-name which is fine.

All I want to do is basically add some notes/welcome message and an image just above where the forum starts but I dont seem to be able to do it. When I go into my form and add in text or an image, in the same way you would add to a page/post then save it, nothing appears?

Any ideas at all how I can achieve this? Should this be happening in the way that it is?

Many thanks!

Justin

Need Help Getting Forums on Site Going

Published on September 15th, 2013 by jcundiff

I am having a small issue with my website. I want to start really using the forums. I set up the registration process and the forums themselves. The one area I am having a problem is the confirmation email not actually going out to user’s emails. After completing registration, the email is suppose to be sent out but never actual arrives (I tested myself). Where exactly would I look to correct this problem?

Thanks!

How can I make user to be able to reply to topics but not create new topics.

Published on September 15th, 2013 by neish121

Hi there

Seems quite straight forward in my head but can’t seem to put it down on the system!

I would like my users to be able to post replies to forum topics that I (as keymaster) create. But I would not like the users to be able to create forum topics themselves.

Is this possible?

I have tried closing the forum with the topics inside, but this also closes off the option for users to reply.

Any help would be much appreciate.

Kind Regards

Possible to remove /topic/ and /forum/ from bbPress permalinks?

Published on September 15th, 2013 by jenseo

Hi!
I’m using pretty permalinks on my WordPress site and has been working hard with the SEO on the site.

One thing I can’t seem to solve, although I have been googling and searched this forum for days now, is how to get rid of the /topic/ and /forum/ parts of the permalinks when using bbPress.

Is it even possible?

The ideal setup for me, that would also reflect how the rest of my site is set up, would be something like this:

mysite.com/forums/name-of-the-forum-topic/name-of-the-thread

Is this possible to accomplish?

Thanks a lot for a great plugin!

Problem with bbPress frontend editor on reply – no styling buttons!

Published on September 15th, 2013 by jenseo

Hello!

I just started building my own Forum and so far it’s working great, except for some minor problems.

One of them is that the frontend editor, with the buttons for making text bold, italic etc doesn’t show up when replying to something. It works great when creating a new topic, but not when answering.

Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Thanks!

How to show forum page like gallery?

Published on September 14th, 2013 by gawakamy

Hi, I have tried to use bbpress as my forum page. It has 49 forums and include pics. What I want is that the forum page looks like a gallery. It shows list style only. I would like to make it like a gallery or table style.

Second question. bbpress shows the pics with title, but it is above the picture. How can I put it down under the picture?
Please let me know if there are solutions. Thanks!!!

How to post code with backticks in it?

Published on September 14th, 2013 by Hansaplastique

I’m running 2.4 and WP 3.6.1.
It seems that bbPress converts backticks to code tags …

Can anyone please explain to me how I can post code that has backticks in it?
I mean: the backticks are part of the actual code I’m trying to post in my forum? So they should NOT be converted.

Multiple Forums

Published on September 14th, 2013 by Travis S.

My goal is to make multiple forums (around 10 when its all said and done). Each forum will be for different subjects but all related with each on a different page.

Per example… one forum will be on a specific fruit. So apple, oranges, etc. but would all fall under the umbrella Fruit (not my actual plans, but this was easier to explain).

Is this possible?

I’m currently running one bbpress install on the twenty-13 theme. I know there is a shortcode to show specific topics on a page, but I want each forum to show on just one page.

Note: ive been on wordpress.com for a little while and started over on the .org. So I’m completely knew to screwing around with php files. Not asking you to hold my hand through it all, but clear directions would be great. Sorry if this question is a repost and/or very basic and im just over thinking it.

Thanks in advance,

Any plans to merge O2 features into bbPress?

Published on September 14th, 2013 by Erlend

I came by this talk about o2 recently, (the successor of the P2 theme, but now made as a plugin):

Flick through the slides for a quick summary.

So as I was listening to the feature set of this plugin, every single one of them turned out to be on my bbPress wishlist:
Native infinite scroll, improved front-end editor, drag & drop image uploads, JSON API, post by e-mail, cross-site search. It seemed to me like the goals of o2 and bbPress are very much aligned.

I guess I’m just wondering if the bbPress developers have been in touch with Beau Lebens & co at all? And could you perhaps shed some light on why o2 isn’t just being made as an extension of bbPress?

Major Problems After Running "Repair Forums" Tools – Please Help

Published on September 14th, 2013 by fontadoni

Hello,

I encountered major problems after running the “Repair Forums” tools on my site newdirt.org/forums. It seems like all forums, topics and replies have lost their “parent relationship” and my forum looks empty. This is not a new forum installation, I have hundreds of posts. It looks the same from the admin panel, I can see forum names but they have 0 posts in them. I can see topic titles but they look empty. Replies have “No Topic” and “No Forum” assigned to them, but the content is there. The funny thing is that if you go directly to each topic link, you can see each topic with their replies (for example as accessing “Latest Forum Topics” from the sidebar: Topic From Sidebar.

Things that I did previous to this problem: upgraded wordpress to 3.6.1 and then ran Tools -> Forums -> Repair Forums.

PLEASE HELP!

WordPress Version: 3.6.1
bbPress Version: 2.4
