As a side note, if you wish to integrate with WordPress, my advice is you upload the files into a sub-directory called “forum” within the WordPress directory.
Our programmer merged BB press and wordpress, now when i log into bbpress admin area using the admin account, in the dashboard
i just see ,forums, topics, posts, users. I don’t see setup or plugins for example.
please help, thank u in advance
I have not been following the progress of this new update to bbPress. Will the plugin replace the bbpress I am currently running? Which I think is a stand alone along side wordpress. Where can I go for more information? I am thrilled that there is energy being put into bbPress. Thank you Thank you. One of my biggest issues is getting emails when someone posts.
I also have the same problem, and the installation documentation is not detailed enough.
“Step 4.Visit the intended URL of the bbPress site” – does that mean the page on my WordPress site that I intend to use the bbPress forum or do I need to create some other page somewhere (if so, where?)?
And where is this mysterious istaller I was expecting to see in step 5: “5.You will be greeted with the bbPress installer”
Thanks!!
Hi ,
I had a group on google of 400+ members and thousand of posts , Is it possible somehow to pull all that data from google group to my wordpress site having bbpress…
Please provide any suggestions.
Thanks
Saurabh
Hi, is there a way to make a post in html.
Eg. Copy from WordPress and paste it in bbPress.
Cheers, DKB
I did have a little nose around before posting this. I couldn’t find a definitive answer or guide.
I have no plugins (apart from Askimet which I only JUST activated now)
The main thing is the WordPress integration that’s causing the problems I think.
I get what someone referred to as the “white screen of death”. I think that’s a cookie problem. And I couldn’t access the admin panel. Maybe that’s a file permissions problem….
I don’t know. It’s aggravation. Looks like I’m stuck with 0.9.0.4. Until it gets hacked that is.
its not clear to me what u want to say..please more brief….
No no on trunk version anonymous post like on wordpress with name + email + siteweb.
I know there’s a few threads on WordPress integration, whereby WP and bbPress share users in the database. But I was thinking of doing it another way, prior to launching my site, and wondered if others had done it.
Basically, I would turn off registration for WordPress. No users can register using WordPress, ever. Instead, the registration process is just handled by bbPress.
What I would then need to do, is have a bbPress login in the header of my WP blog. The comments for a post in WP would be handled by bbPress. I would probably have to create a bbPress thread manually, then link to it from the WP post, or somehow integrate it into the WP post.
Is it possible to include a bbPress thread in a WP post, if you know the thread id? I would probably tie the thread id to the relevant post using a custom field in WP, then grab it in my WP template.
Does this make sense? I hope so.
Hi,
I hope you can help. I’m not great with bbPress
I have bbPress integrated with WP. I’m running WP 3.01 and bbPress 9.04. I’m using the “Root Cookie” plugin (from what I remember) to make them integrate.
I set this up a year ago so I don’t really remember what I did completely to start with.
I’m trying to pull posts out into a widget with a WP plugin but it’s not working which is why I want to upgrade.
I first of all I tried a straight upgrade to 1.0.2. The forum was accessible, but you couldn’t log in. If I visited /bb-admin I got a 404.
So I tried going from 9.0.4 to 9.0.6 to see if an incremental upgrade would work. This just completely broke and I was getting a function error.
Can anyone help me with a method to upgrade to 1.0.2 without breaking integration with WordPress?
Would appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Greg
Integration with WordPress, or any other external software, will not be something we’ll be aiming for in the core.
The plan is to allow classes and functions to be overwritten/extended so that anyone that interested can write a plug-in to handle such features. That’s more to do with OOP data mapping versus hard-coding, than an attempt to so anything with WordPress specifically.
Does that mean that you have it all figured out and the purpose of this thread is to get extremely talented programmers on board
Only if they use Dreamweaver like I do.
There are many of talented people on this site whom I have come to respect; and it would be folly of me not to keep them in the loop on something like this. I’m not really sure why people think that’s Machiavellian of me…
you have no script, and (as far as I know, correct me if I’m wrong) no experience contributing/managing php scripts.
What’s PHP again?
that is integration. But why stop at user tables when you can do layout/content/user integration with several different softwares? I think that integration with other scripts, including wordpress, is crucial.
What will be happening is that people can extend the user or login classes so that external systems can be tied into the software (MediaWiki, Drupal, WordPress etc).
Does that mean that you have it all figured out and the purpose of this thread is to get extremely talented programmers on board. I could be wrong, but it seems like you’re approving any and all ideas that come your way. If this fork is a democracy, I want in, but count me out if your going to have complete control over it.
I am aware that Matt technically has almost complete control over wordpress, but the difference is that he has a totally awesome script, whereas you have no script, and (as far as I know, correct me if I’m wrong) no experience contributing/managing php scripts.
Here is the process for getting bbPress info to show in WordPress. You would use a similar process, in reverse, to show WordPress data in your bbPress installation.
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/heres-how-to-show-bbpress-info-inside-wordpress-without-full-integration
And that’s exactly what I wrote
That’s exactly the tutorial I followed. Worked perfectly.
Always happy for more Blue Sky thinking.
Widgets, and easy theming, are definitely points I would like to discuss in detail further down the line. I absolutely believe that the theme should just deal with simple presentation, and this ties in with that nicely.
Custom post types is actually very simple, and has already been factored in to a certain extent.
WordPress integration is crucial
No, it’s not
And nor is it going to be a goal of the software.
WordPress is getting it’s own forum software, and I’m sure that will work really well, and meet the needs of many.
What will be happening is that people can extend the user or login classes so that external systems can be tied into the software (MediaWiki, Drupal, WordPress etc).
Not right now.
And this version of the software is being replaced by a wordpress-plugin.
You would need to query those from WordPress tables in the database. If you have deep integration, you can just use WordPress functions
Hi
I love this forum and easy to use with WordPress but I like to give feature of signatures to my forum visitors.
Is there any plugin or guide for how to add signature feature for bbpress
Please Advise.
I couldn’t agree more. The new bbpress needs something like wordpress’s custom post, and it would be awesome if bbpress had the same thing, only more flexible and with a UI.
Example: just drag a wigit in between topic title and message, and name it topic description.
WordPress already has the “app store”, but bbpress needs it to.
WordPress integration is crucial, because tons of people would like to have a cms and a forum. However, I don’t think that making bbpress a wordpress plugin is the right solution. Lot’s of people also want to have a standalone forum software. The integration just needs to be smoother.
If you guys could do that I would definitely use the forked software.
Varjik.
There are plugins for both private messaging and a WYSIWYG editor.
BBPress does work well with WordPress, better than any other forum software. What people like you fail to understand is that whilst, relatively, integrating BBPress with WordPress is easy, it is not something a basic WordPress user who does not have any knowledge of PHP should really do, unless you are prepared for the challenge and prepared that you mgiht not be able to do it.
Regarding themes, you need to edit the BBPress theme you are using. You need to add the Get_Header and Get_Footer tags of your WordPress theme to your BBPress theme files. If you wish to use a sidebar you will need to reference the sidebar too.
You then need your Forum to fit in the Wrapper of your WordPress theme, you do this by referencing the wordpress themes CSS wrapper in the BBPress themes files, using div tags.
You also need to then make sure a copy of your BBPress CSS is in the same directory as your wordpress CSS, you then need to reference the BBPress CSS in your wordpress header.
If you know what you’re doing with web design then those steps should be fairly easy to follow. At the end of the day, a certain level of expertise is required to integrate BBPress with WordPress.
I have managed it, you can see the result at:
Discussions
As you can see, both the WP site and the BBPress forum use the same theme.
Personally, I think if you are already looking to phpNuke then WordPress is probably not for you. I personally think phpNuke is the poor mans WordPress, it’s gimmicky and performs poorly, but if that’s what you find easiest then it’s whatever you think is best
Hi,
Sometimes, i need to move a comment posted on my wordpress blog to make with-it a new topic on my bbpress forum, is there a plugin how can do it ?
