Hey there, So i’m 99.99 ready to launch but having an issue with WordPress, BBpress, aMember

New users that signs up can’t add a new topic to the forum, wordpress and bbpress are sharing the same database, I figured out what the issue is, When a new user gets added it doesn’t assign it a role in BBpress i.e. Member, I have to manually set it each time so that the user can post.

I have set the user roles in the BBpress/Wordpress integration area, See > http://helpdock.net/screenshots/c905c801ef699307e0874064f7d379fb.png

Any ideas why its BBpress isn’t assigning the user roles so that a user can post a new topic?

Where have you installed WordPress and bbPress relative to each other, and what actually are your .htaccess settings for WordPress?

Mine is just:

# BEGIN WordPress

RewriteRule . /index.php [L]

# END WordPress

which seems to hand over nicely to the forums that are under /forums/ with their own .htaccess file

Everything correctly but nothing seems to work together.

Everything works great individually and its all updated to the newest versions.

In WordPress, comments_popup_link() takes three arguments that tell it how to format the output based on how many comments are present and runs a sprintf() with the appropriate output after retrieving the comment count.

The equivalent to get_comments_number in bbPress would be get_topic_posts, the rest of the function is either WordPress-specific or would need slight tweaking (like what the posts page would actually be).

register_globals is a gaping security flaw that’s been turned off in every recent PHP version. If you have it on, PHP takes anything passed by $_GET, $_POST, $_COOKIE and $_SERVER and turns them into global variables (i.e. ?book=1 in the $_GET array becomes $book = 1). I’d recommend turning it off ASAP.

The edit link turns itself off after a while, it’s not just limited to if anyone else has posted

Ah, and good luck integrating bb-load.php, I could never get it to even play nice with WordPress.

I’m very glad to have found this discussion – after upgrading from WPMU 2.7.something to 2.8.4, the cookie swap stopped working, and I couldn’t find a good explanation anywhere until I found this thread. Upgrading from bbPress 1.0a6 to 1.0.2 fixed everything.

Old-fashioned way of loading the HTML in there and use a local copy of jQuery or whatever library you use, but that’s the general idea really.

html_include.php is just a cut down version of front-page.php so you can edit it the same as any other template. javascript.php doesn’t load in stickies, but that’s just how I felt like doing things, it’s a cut down version of index.php so it’s easy enough to put back.

Even more cut down version of html_include.php (so you really do just get a list):

So, the idea of just swapping wordpress variables with bbpress ones is not enough.

What bbpress integration plugin are you using? You should be able to integrate 2.8 and 1.0 without any plugins installed in either, just set the bbPress up with the same settings as WordPress under Settings -> WordPress Integration in the bbPress admin.

I think a sitewide form is easier to integrate using the full code inside the functions.php file (like comment list on wordpress)

I had my test bbpress and my wordpress site working well. WP 2.7.1 and bbpress 1.0 I updated my wordpress site this weekend to 2.8 and now the integration doesn’t work.

Not only does the login not work across the site, but when I login to one it logs me out of the other.

I have went through all the steps that I did initially to integrate the sites, but haven’t figured out the change. I’m wondering if it has to do with the bbpress integration plugin?

I installed the latest bbPress version (1.0.2) and integrated in WordPress 2.8.4.

Everything seems working, but only the footer navigation with the “next page” links don’t work.

I think it is a conflict between the htaccess files of bbPress and WordPress.

If I switch Options -MultiViews to Options +MultiViews, the “next pages” work.

But from that moment the topic page redirects to /topic/17475/page/17475 (the latest number isn’t correct).

Anyone a solution? Thanks in advance.

I have BP 1.0.2 and WPMU 2.8.4 with deep integration (I call wp-blog-header.php in ‘bb-config.php’).

All of the forum RSS feeds work, except the top level feed of all new posts across the forum: <site URL>/<forum name>/rss/

This is true for FF, IE and Safari.

In IE, I see the error:

Invalid xml declaration.

Line: 13 Character: 3

Viewing the source, it looks like WPMU is inserting an XML header above the bbPress XML header:

Yeah that looks like WordPress is attempting to handle the RSS as well as bbPress, so it’s definitely a deep integration issue. I’m not sure how to detangle that, but hopefully someone else can or I’ll try and have a look tomorrow.

I should have looked at the source though. It seems that the xml has two headers. Could this be related to deep integration?

I’ve found running SABRE with stealth mode on in WordPress stops 100% of our bot registrations and I just point bbPress at that. If you disable registration with either .htaccess or changing the function, it’ll put a complete stop to any registrations on the bbPress side, so you shouldn’t need any spam protection besides that unless you let unregistered users post. bbPress comes with Askimet installed anyway though.

Setting up a forum for a university discussion course and can’t seem to find where to set up custom registration fields. For instance, I’d much rather have students’ student number and course number than their website and location. Where is the template file to change this? Or do I have to go into the core files? (I have a limited amount of experience with WordPress and none with bbPress.)

I guess you mean you have WordPress.com blog then, as opposed to one on a server? You could try something like what’s being offered here: https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/free-hosting-for-bbpress
