In reply to: Weird login error on this site
There seem to be some issues with this site and remembering users.
You can login to bbpress.org, but as soon as you try to go to the support area, it logs you as anonymous. If you click the lost password it tells you that you are already logged in. Logging out and in again doesn’t fix, and login frequently goes nowhere.
I found two solutions
1. logout, then click lost password, get the email, change password and then login
2. Come to the site using https://bbpress.org/wp-login.php
JJJ – this started for me about 10 days ago, before that it was intermittent, now it is every time I come to site – any ideas?
Firstly, you need to post this on the theme’s support site

Since this site has a free download trial version and a bought version, I suspect you may need to spend $45 to buy this version to take this ad out – don’t guarantee that, but suspect it is the case.

Check your forums (dashboard>forums) and pick any one of your forms to edit
You should have :
Visibility : Public on the top right hand side

I use bbpress WP tweaks, this creates a forum specific sidebar.
Into this you can drop the BBpress login widget, which means that when they go to your forum page, they then get to login using the widget and remain on that page.
Like you I then give them “no role for this site”, and “participant” for the forum.
I also untick the “show toolbar when viewing site” , so that they don’t see anything wordpress-ish, just my theme. They can amend passwords and profiles through the forum, so don’t need it.

Given that you work in digital marketing for a living, I would have thought that you understood the difference between being paid for something, and getting it for free.
BBpress is FREE – if you want instant support – go pay for something, otherwise accept that this FREE software, with non-instant support provided for by a community who try to help and improve the FREE product – you know then one you didn’t pay for.
Yes it’s really great of you to flag up security flaws, that is the COMMUNITY thing to do, and thanks for doing that.
Finally I think you should seriously consider some anger management course, it’s not good for your blood pressure 🙂
Schmoo, presume you mean this forum https://bbpress.org/forums/ – try coming here direct rather than via bbpress.org and let us know if that makes a difference.

I presume your forums base in settings is set to “iiforums” ?
In reply to: Full Page vs Sidebar InstallationYes, that’s probably the next step – swapping your theme to one of the defaults eg twentytwelve and see if it comes up. If so then it’s a theme issue, suspect your theme is unloading sidebars at the wrong time – this should be correctable, but you need to prove it’s the issue first !

Did you call the page forums plural?

I presume you’re in a url looking like

where username is the user’s name?

You can also create a page called “forums”, put your text there, and then add the shortcode
[bbp-forum-indexx]
but with only one x – sorry but even with code ticks the forum interprets this code, so cannot put it in exactly!
by the way the page doesn’t appear as an edit option in the toolbar, so you have to edit it via the dashboard, but that is how I achieved it.

Answer turns out to be very easy !
In line 799 just change
'type' => 'both'
to'type' => 'avatar'Then just the avatar displays.
By the by change it to
'type' => 'name'and guess what, just the name displays!As said earlier make a note of what you have changed, as later upgrades will change this back.

Having had a look at the widget, there is an option in the recent topics widget itself to hide author ie when you add the widget to a sidebar, you get options for no. posts to show, show author, show date etc. – does that not work?
That links to line 798 in the widgets php, so there would be you next step.
